Chapter 825: Chapter 825 Xiang Yu Loses Himself

Xiang Yu’s thoughts made him feel a bit insane himself. He shook his head and laughed at his own absurdity.

"How could it be? My comrades are all dead; that’s an undeniable fact." Xiang Yu muttered to himself while shaking his head.

At this moment, his mind was a mess, and he needed to reorganize his thoughts. Suddenly, a question struck him: Why hadn’t the enemy chased after them? Could it be that they feared he had set up an ambush? Or perhaps, were they afraid of him?

If the enemy was scared of him, that would be hard for him to believe. This was their territory, and they held all the advantages—timing, terrain, and manpower. There was no reason for them not to pursue.

Unless...

Thinking of this, Xiang Yu hurriedly stepped outside and looked at Wu Yue. "It’s too dangerous here; you guys need to head back, take these two with you."

With that, Xiang Yu pushed Li Wenlong and Mi Hui towards her.

"You’re trying to send us back again? This time, no matter what you say, we’re not going!" Wu Yue stubbornly replied.

Feng Lan also looked at Xiang Yu, irritated. They had come all this way and even saved Xiang Yu and his team, yet he had the audacity to send them away without a shred of gratitude.

Moreover, this mission had been entrusted to Xiang Yu by her. If they backed out now due to danger, what kind of sense would that make?

"We’re not going anywhere," Feng Lan stubbornly added.

Li Wenlong and Mi Hui found themselves in an awkward position, conflicted in their hearts. While they wanted to stay with Xiang Yu, they couldn’t deny their fear.

Wu Yue wasn’t someone who made unreasonable arguments. She could tell from Xiang Yu’s expression that something was off, and now she sternly said, "Xiang Yu, if you’re going to send us away, at least give us a reason."

Looking at her determined gaze, Xiang Yu let out a sigh and said, "It’s very dangerous here, extremely dangerous. I can’t guarantee your safety."

"If it’s so dangerous, then why are you still staying here? If you leave, we leave together; if you stay, we stay together. You’re not afraid of dying, but do you think we’re afraid?" Wu Yue stubbornly argued.

Xiang Yu felt utterly exhausted and finally said, "Fine, we’ll all go back together. We’ll set out now."

After saying this, Xiang Yu began preparing his things. Given all the uncertainties, he would rather temporarily abandon the mission than let them risk their lives.

Xiang Yu’s decision left everyone speechless, especially Wu Yue, who was practically fuming. She had traveled thousands of miles to follow Xiang Yu here, and not only was he not moved, but this was the outcome?

Tie Zhuzi and Xiao Xuan also seemed at a loss. Having followed Xiang Yu for two years, they were used to seeing him brim with confidence. He had never hesitated like this before, but lately, something seemed off.

"Bro, are you okay?" Xiao Xuan stepped forward and asked.

Xiang Yu knew he wasn’t in a good state, so he sank into a nearby couch. He was a soldier who had walked off countless battlefields, experienced life and death, and witnessed comrades blown apart right beside him.

His heart had been hardened to steel. During the past two years he’d spent in the urban trenches, he treated it like a game, only taking on missions as a diversion.

Commander Cao had become his sole emotional anchor, but now, he realized this wasn’t quite the case anymore.

Though he didn’t want to admit it—was afraid to admit it—what he’d seen today in the mountains undeniably stirred a sense of familiarity within him.

"Li Wenlong, Mi Hui, you two should leave here temporarily. Head to City One and find Shi Jian," Xiang Yu said, looking up at the two men.

Their faces turned a bit sheepish; after coming all this way, they hadn’t been much help.

"You guys should leave; otherwise, staying here will distract him," Wu Yue added after seeing their hesitation.

Li Wenlong and Mi Hui exchanged glances and finally nodded. Mi Hui walked up to Xiang Yu and said, "We’re not afraid of dying. If you need anything, all you have to do is call."

Though they hadn’t been with Xiang Yu long, they could already tell he was deeply loyal and someone worth befriending.

Xiang Yu forced a smile and nodded.

Li Wenlong then bid farewell to everyone and left.

When Xiang Yu saw them go, he finally looked up and said, "Back on the mountain, they didn’t chase us because they’re sure we can’t escape. That means we’re in serious danger now."

"But we still have no idea who they are," Wu Yue asked, puzzled.

In truth, Wu Yue and Feng Lan were still confused. They hadn’t been part of the investigation; they only tasked Xiang Yu with looking into their deserters.

They thought Xiang Yu’s sudden presence here was related to that matter.

"They’re Jin Feng’s team," Xiang Yu said confidently.

Upon hearing this name, Wu Yue and Feng Lan shot upright. Jin Feng was a name they were all too familiar with—he was their direct superior.

"Xiang Yu, stop talking nonsense! Our team isn’t even here!" Wu Yue rebuked excitedly.

Feng Lan also looked at Xiang Yu doubtfully. While she’d had her suspicions about her boss, hearing it confirmed so bluntly made it hard to accept.

"It’s just a guess," Xiang Yu coughed and said.

"You..." Wu Yue clenched her teeth in frustration.

Even now, Xiang Yu’s attitude was nonchalant despite his otherwise serious demeanor.

"Don’t say things lightly until you’ve confirmed them," Wu Yue said angrily.

"Well, if I confirm them, isn’t that the perfect time to say them lightly?" Xiang Yu retorted nonchalantly.

"Stop arguing; let’s figure out a plan instead," Feng Lan quickly interjected.

Tie Zhuzi, clearly restless, stood up and said, "Brother Yu, I say we slip in under the cover of night and figure out what’s going on in that mountain. If it comes to worst, we’ll call in the Tianlong squad and storm the place!"

Tie Zhuzi didn’t fully grasp the situation but still boldly voiced his suggestion.

Xiao Xuan quickly pulled him aside, signaling him to keep quiet. Xiao Xuan could piece together bits of the story—it seemed related to Wu Yue and Feng Lan’s past—and decided to stay quiet as well.

"Let’s just survive tonight first. This place is definitely unsafe now. When we leave, don’t drive the car; leave it parked here," Xiang Yu instructed.

"Then where will we stay?" Feng Lan asked.

"We’ll find a random place to stay for tonight. Tomorrow, we’ll figure out the next steps," Xiang Yu replied.

Despite her issues with Xiang Yu, Wu Yue still followed his plan for now.

The group of five quietly went downstairs, split into two groups, and hailed cabs to the outskirts of the city, where they found a modest motel.

The motel’s business seemed slow; seeing five people show up suddenly thrilled the owner.

The owner looked at Xiang Yu and asked, "Three men, two women, how many rooms will you be needing?"

"One," Xiang Yu said decisively.

"You’re..." The motel owner gaped in surprise, clearly caught off guard.

"Can’t you tell? We’re a unit," Xiang Yu replied.

The owner nodded and said, "I see, I see. So... can I join your group tonight as well?"
