Urban Super Soldier King-Chapter 823: Life and Death Encirclement in the Snow Forest
Chapter 823: Chapter 823: Life and Death Encirclement in the Snow Forest
"No way. You all stay here. Don’t go anywhere. Shi Jian, keep an eye on them." Xiang Yu said and walked away.
"Xiang Yu," Shi Jian suddenly called out.
Xiang Yu turned his head, his eyes filled with resolute determination.
Seeing Xiang Yu’s expression, Shi Jian nodded slightly without saying a word.
"Xiang Yu," Wu Yue suddenly shouted, his face filled with anger. "We’re not your subordinates. You can’t order us around."
Feng Lan hurriedly stepped forward, pulling on Wu Yue, signaling him to stop talking.
Xiang Yu turned to Wu Yue and said, "You’re right, you’re not my subordinates, and I have no authority to order you. But I do have the right to ask you not to follow me."
With that, Xiang Yu gave Shi Jian a firm look and called Tie Zhuzi and the others to head downstairs.
For some reason, Xiang Yu’s heart was heavy with irritation. He wanted to scream to release all the frustration bottled inside, but he suppressed it. He needed to stay clear-headed now—even a single misstep could lead to total ruin.
Tie Zhuzi drove, with Li Wenlong navigating from the passenger seat.
City Six was over a thousand kilometers away. After driving for a while, Tie Zhuzi switched with Xiao Xuan to continue the drive.
City Six was unfamiliar to them; it wasn’t part of their territory. Years ago, during one of Xiang Yu’s training sessions, he had visited the mountain ranges there, but he had only seen the outskirts and hadn’t ventured deeper inside.
They drove continuously and reached City Six around 8 p.m. It was winter there, and they hadn’t come prepared, so they stopped at a store to buy warm clothing.
It was already late by the time they decided to check into a hotel and rest for the night. In the room, Xiang Yu spread out a map for Li Wenlong to examine.
Li Wenlong was familiar with the surrounding terrain. On the map, he quickly pinpointed the location of an endless range of mountains.
He pointed out the direction to Xiang Yu and described the surrounding environment. Much of the mountain area was inaccessible by vehicle, requiring them to proceed on foot—a significant challenge for their mission.
This wasn’t a problem for Xiang Yu and his team as they had undergone rigorous training. However, for Li Wenlong and Mi Hui, both academicians unfamiliar with such terrains, it was more daunting.
Returning to this place stirred emotions in Li Wenlong and Mi Hui—this was a location filled with their painful memories.
"Xiang Yu, I don’t know why you’re looking for them, but be prepared. If you’re caught, there’s no way back," Li Wenlong warned.
Seeing Xiang Yu’s physique, he knew that the other party would see Xiang Yu as prime experimental material. Once caught, death might no longer be an option.
"Don’t worry," Xiang Yu replied confidently.
After eating together, they each rested for the night. The next day, they prepared some essential supplies before setting out.
City Six was still a short drive away from the mountainous region. Tie Zhuzi drove for about an hour before reaching the base of the mountain ranges.
The surroundings were a blanket of white, as if they had stepped into another world. Snow-covered fir trees lined the mountains, a stark yet beautiful contrast with the pristine white landscape.
Aside from a few scattered tourists, the area was sparsely populated. They drove until the road ended, finally stopping at the edge of the wilderness.
"Let’s go," Xiang Yu said as he prepared his gear and jumped out of the car.
Li Wenlong and Mi Hui followed, taking the lead to guide the way.
Tie Zhuzi and Xiao Xuan flanked Xiang Yu, guarding him closely. Both knew how dangerous this mission was and had come fully armed.
The harsh climate was a challenge, especially for Tie Zhuzi, whose large build struggled on the rugged terrain after having undergone less training.
They ventured deeper into the mountains, leaving the paths of civilization behind. The surrounding forest became denser with every step.
After another stretch of trekking, the eerie howling of wolves suddenly echoed from an unknown direction, causing Li Wenlong and Mi Hui to freeze in their tracks.
"Don’t worry; with our team, even a pack of wolves won’t be a problem," Tie Zhuzi chuckled, his voice hearty despite his fatigue.
Though the journey was tough, Tie Zhuzi remained enthusiastic. This experience was a novelty for him—something he’d never encountered before.
In fact, he almost wished for a wolf pack to appear, eager to test their toughness firsthand.
"Stay alert!" Xiang Yu quickly warned.
The oppressive silence around them was unsettling, almost unnervingly so.
Mi Hui turned back, his face pale, and said to Xiang Yu, "I remember now. This was the very path I used to escape."
Just as he finished speaking, a group of people suddenly emerged ahead. Clad in white down coats and armed, they quickly surrounded Xiang Yu and his team.
"Retreat!" Xiang Yu commanded, grabbing Mi Hui and heading back.
Tie Zhuzi and Xiao Xuan were quick to react, pulling Li Wenlong along with them.
But it was too late—their retreat was blocked by more people who had them completely encircled.
Xiang Yu clenched the knife in his hand. Since there was no escape, the only choice was to fight. He wasn’t afraid to die. From the moment his comrades left, he had prepared for this outcome.
"Zhuzi, Xiao Xuan, looks like this is where it ends." Xiang Yu smiled calmly, looking at the two men beside him.
Tie Zhuzi grinned, completely unafraid. "Brother Yu, these two years with you have been the happiest of my life. If there’s a next life, I’ll follow you again. It’s been an honor."
Xiao Xuan also smiled faintly, looking at Xiang Yu. "Brother, thank you for avenging me. I have no regrets in this life."
Looking at his two closest comrades, Xiang Yu smiled with contentment. Yet deep down, he felt a twinge of guilt toward Xiao Xuan. He hadn’t fully avenged him—the leader with the ’Blue Hawk’ tattoo was still alive.
Meanwhile, Li Wenlong and Mi Hui were far less composed. Though they had contemplated death, the idea of being captured again filled them with dread.
The memories of their captivity were nightmares—like living in hell each day.
"Xiang Yu, kill us. We’d rather die here than go back," Li Wenlong pleaded sincerely, his eyes locked on Xiang Yu.
"That’s right, Xiang Yu. Please, kill us," Mi Hui added, reaching for the knife in Xiang Yu’s hand.
Xiang Yu stared at them with guilt written all over his face. "I’m sorry. I failed to protect you."
Indeed, Xiang Yu hadn’t anticipated the full challenges ahead. He should have known that Li Wenlong and Mi Hui, lacking professional training, faced greater risks in such an environment.
"Don’t say that. You gave us hope, and an early death is a kind of release. This life of constant fear and anxiety—we’ve had enough," said Li Wenlong, a sense of finality in his voice...
