Urban Super Soldier King-Chapter 807: The Reason for Becoming a Deserter
Chapter 807: Chapter 807: The Reason for Becoming a Deserter
When Feng Lan heard Xiang Yu ask about the past, her expression grew serious. She stood there frozen, as if trying to recall those memories.
Xiang Yu did not interrupt her, merely sitting there quietly. He understood that this process was painful. He had experienced it himself and knew the bitter taste it left in Feng Lan’s heart.
Back then, his brothers had fallen to save him. Although he hadn’t witnessed their tragic fates, he could only imagine how agonizing their deaths must have been.
The two remained wrapped in their thoughts. Eventually, Feng Lan sat down across from Xiang Yu, her face tense with pain, and said, "The details have become blurry—I can only remember bits and pieces."
Seeing her distress, Xiang Yu did not press her, opting instead to wait patiently.
"That night, our squad received orders to eliminate a traitor. He was already fleeing, about to leave the country. Our mission was to execute him without delay. The entire squad was deployed because we’d been informed that his international rescue team was already on its way," Feng Lan recounted, her eyes drifting into the distance, reflecting as she pieced together the past.
"Sister Wu Yue was our captain. She led us to the border, an area dense with woods. Thanks to our prior training, we quickly adapted to the terrain. The target was hiding there. We trailed his movements relentlessly and eventually located him. However, by then, his rescue team had already arrived."
"We did not back down. Just as the target made contact with his reinforcements, we arrived. The captain shot him in the back. He didn’t die immediately, though. We only heard him utter one last word."
"What was his last word?" Xiang Yu quickly interjected, sensing this word was key to unraveling the mystery.
"Blue Eagle," Feng Lan replied decisively, as if the term was etched into her memory forever.
The mention of this word sent a shudder through Xiang Yu’s heart. He was far too familiar with "Blue Eagle." Back in City No. 2, a blue eagle was tattooed on Zhong Huashan’s back.
Moreover, the one responsible for Xiao Xuan’s father’s murder also bore a blue eagle tattoo on their back. According to Zhong Huashan, their leader wasn’t dead, which meant Xiao Xuan’s vengeance for his father’s murder had not been fulfilled—something that only Xiang Yu was aware of.
Thus, upon hearing Feng Lan’s account, Xiang Yu’s mind was consumed by a massive question. What kind of background could someone bearing the blue eagle tattoo possibly have?
Feng Lan didn’t notice Xiang Yu’s expression and continued, "We fired two more shots before finally killing the target. After that, his rescue team began pursuing us. Three of our sisters sacrificed themselves to cover our breakout. In the end, we managed to escape."
"After escaping, we reached the rendezvous point, waiting for our own rescue team. But they never came. Instead, the enemy caught up with us, forcing us to flee. It was only after reaching safety that we managed to contact our superiors. They set another meeting point, but..." Feng Lan clenched her fists, her voice faltering.
Xiang Yu already knew what came next because Feng Lan had told him before. When they arrived at the new location, their captain, Wu Yue, sensed something was off and led them away immediately.
But it was already too late—they were ambushed. Wu Yue had no choice but to lead a breakout. In the end, only three of them survived.
After their escape, Wu Yue and the others were devastated. However, they didn’t give up. When they tried to contact their superiors again, they suddenly discovered they had been branded as traitors.
This revelation was a tremendous blow to them. Ultimately, the three of them stopped resisting and went into hiding. During their flight, Lin Xiaohui became separated from the group.
Wu Yue and the remaining member reached safety. Feng Lan eventually left the group to carve her own path.
Feng Lan had been seeking proof to find out the truth, but Wu Yue seemed resigned to her fate. Her only thoughts were of earning more money, reuniting with Feng Lan, and leading a peaceful life. That was until Xiang Yu showed up.
"What’s the name of your superior? Who assigned you the mission?" Xiang Yu asked after calming his thoughts.
By now, he was nearly certain there was more to this incident than met the eye.
Feng Lan shook her head and said, "I don’t know who gave the order. Sister Wu Yue, as our captain, must have known."
"So, at the time, you knew nothing. You were simply told to kill someone, no questions asked?" Xiang Yu pressed.
Feng Lan merely nodded in agreement. That was indeed the situation. Her training had instilled in her a strict mandate: obey orders unconditionally—no questioning allowed.
She had carried out that mandate flawlessly, obeying without hesitation.
"Why were you chosen for the mission?" Xiang Yu asked again but quickly realized the futility of the question—Feng Lan couldn’t possibly know the answer.
Feng Lan stood there, bewildered and silent. The two sat in mutual silence for a long moment before Xiang Yu finally stood and walked out.
When they arrived at Wu Yue’s office, they saw that the handover procedures had already been completed, and the atmosphere was jubilant.
"Brother Yu, it’s all done!" Shi Jian said excitedly. From this moment on, the mining area was theirs.
Whether it made money or not was a minor detail—what mattered was that their power was now unchallenged within City No. 1.
Wu Yue, too, looked visibly at ease. She was always destined to take this step; it was just Xiang Yu’s presence that hastened the process.
"Xiao Lan, I’ll take good care of you from now on," Wu Yue said cheerfully.
This remark sounded slightly off to those who overheard. Xiang Yu, meanwhile, shot Wu Yue a mischievous look and joked, "You don’t happen to have any issues with your sexual orientation, do you?"
Wu Yue’s face flushed crimson, and she immediately lashed out with a kick. Before Xiang Yu’s arrival in this city, Wu Yue had been an untouchable boss, the leader of hundreds of people.
No one had ever dared joke with her, let alone crack such jests. Facing this "joker king," she wasn’t quite sure how to handle it yet.
Though outwardly flustered, she felt an odd sense of happiness inside. Why? Even she didn’t know—perhaps the years of repression were finally easing.
At this moment, Wu Yue felt a rare sense of relief, as if she’d been unshackled. Although she had deep ties to this place, it had also been a cage for her.
"Dinner’s on me tonight," Wu Yue announced with gusto.
"Great!" the group cheered in unison.
The atmosphere was lively, as if the group had become one big family. Seeing this, Wu Yue couldn’t help but feel sentimental. If only her sisters were still alive, how wonderful it would have been.
Wu Yue’s heart brimmed with guilt. She had been the squad leader and it was her responsibility to protect her sisters. She should have anticipated the danger—if only she had spoken up in time, the tragedy might have been avoided.
Now, only three of them remained. Wu Yue vowed to care for them, to earn enough money so they could live without worries...
