Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Have I Become Handsome?

"Director Hu, do me a favor. Dig up all the dirt you can on the Han Family. The faster, the better. I’ll wait for your call," Lin Kuang said evenly before hanging up.

Although Hu Run was irritated by Lin Kuang’s demanding tone, he didn’t dare protest. He certainly didn’t want to lose his position. At this point, it wasn’t just Lin Kuang he was worried about, but Zhang Lianmei as well. Zhang Lianmei held a mountain of evidence against him, and now that she had joined forces with Lin Kuang, Hu Run was even more terrified of offending him. If Lin Kuang and Zhang Lianmei exposed his scandals simultaneously, it would be more than just his career on the line. His higher-ups might even decide to sacrifice him to save themselves, and his very life would be in jeopardy.

At the thought, a shiver ran down Hu Run’s spine. The feeling of being at someone else’s mercy, of them holding such damning evidence, was truly awful.

Settling back into his seat, Hu Run turned on his private computer and typed in a long password to unlock it. He navigated to his files, found the one labeled "Han Family," and opened it.

Hu Run scrolled to the very end of the document, a hesitant look on his face. He was well aware of the Han Family’s drug smuggling operation. While he wasn’t directly involved, the municipal party committee secretary was.

Hu Run knew perfectly well that this secretary’s energy was greater than the mayor’s. He was a delegate from Yanjing, sent here simply to ’gold-plate’ his resume before leaving in a few years. Hu Run would never dare to cross such a powerful figure.

That’s why he hesitated. Should he give this information to Lin Kuang, especially the parts that implicated the secretary?

After some thought, Hu Run decided against it. He couldn’t risk sending the section mentioning the party committee secretary, opting to share only the first part of the file. He was terrified of this information getting out. If the secretary ever discovered that the leak had come from him, the consequences would be unimaginable. Besides, the first half of the document already contained plenty of incriminating details, including a clear record of who the Han Family sold drugs to and all their partners in crime.

Meanwhile, Lin Kuang, sitting in Liu Shilin’s office, received the file from Hu Run. As he stared at his phone screen, the corners of his lips slowly curled into a smirk.

This Han Family certainly has some energy, working with so many gangs. Tsk, tsk. But Hu Run is definitely holding something back. The Han Family may have its channels, but an upstart family like theirs isn’t powerful enough to call all the shots in East Sea on their own. Never mind. This information is good enough for now. I’ll pay the Han Family a visit tonight and intimidate them a little. If they’re smart, I’ll let this matter drop. But if they want to keep playing, this is going to get very interesting.

A hint of coldness flashed across Lin Kuang’s face as he mulled over his plan.

A while later, it was time to get off work. Lin Kuang followed Liu Shilin out of the office, and after saying goodbye to Lin Guo’er and the others, they left the building.

Driving along the highway, Lin Kuang was a picture of calm.

"Lin Kuang, that’s the Han Family we’re talking about. Are you really sure you can handle this?" Liu Shilin asked, her voice laced with worry as she studied his composed demeanor.

Hearing her concern, Lin Kuang smiled faintly and glanced at her in the rearview mirror. "Don’t worry, Shilin. You don’t need to fret. Since I promised you I’d handle it, I have a way to deal with the Han Family. In the worst-case scenario, I’ll still protect Yashi. After all, it’s your life’s work."

His words warmed Liu Shilin’s heart, but a seed of unease remained. Still, she didn’t say anything more.

About half an hour later, Lin Kuang pulled up to the manor. They got out of the car and walked into the living room, one after the other.

"Sis, are you trying to kill yourself?! How could you go to work with your cramps?" the little witch shouted angrily the moment Liu Shilin stepped inside.

She had only been home for ten minutes and had been frantically searching the house for Liu Shilin. The little witch knew all about her sister’s condition. Every month, the pain was so agonizing that it left her incapacitated, and no doctor had ever found a cure. On those days, Liu Shilin was usually bedridden at home, so her absence had sent the little witch into a panic. In fact, she had just gotten off the phone upstairs and was about to call Liu Shilin when they walked in.

Hearing the little witch’s outburst, Liu Shilin’s face flushed crimson. It was one thing for them to discuss such private matters between themselves, but Lin Kuang was standing right there. Naturally shy about such topics, Liu Shilin found the situation mortifying.

She shot the little witch a fierce glare. "Shiyu, don’t talk nonsense!" she snapped. This girl was getting more and more out of hand.

Seeing that her sister was genuinely angry, the little witch immediately piped down. Pouting, she walked over to Liu Shilin and said aggrievedly, "Sis, I was just worried about you! Every time you get your period, the pain is unbearable. I got really scared when I came home and couldn’t find you."

Listening to her sister’s words and seeing her crestfallen expression, Liu Shilin felt a pang of guilt. Her earlier embarrassment had made her react too harshly, and she now realized she was in the wrong.

"Alright, Shiyu, I didn’t mean to snap at you. Don’t be angry. Um, Lin Kuang already cured it, so I’m fine now." As she mentioned the cramps, Liu Shilin’s face reddened again. She still found it incredibly awkward to discuss such things in front of a man.

"What? That scoundrel actually cured *that*? Sis, are you sure he didn’t trick you? That bastard didn’t do anything to you, did he?" As she spoke, the little witch’s large eyes scanned Liu Shilin’s body from top to bottom, her gaze filled with suspicion.

Seeing the little witch’s expression, Liu Shilin shot her an exasperated look. "Liu Shiyu, if you let your imagination run wild again, I’m going to get seriously angry!"

At this, the little witch playfully stuck out her tongue. "Sis, it’s just that I don’t trust that scoundrel! The guy’s a total jerk!" she said, throwing a harsh glare in Lin Kuang’s direction.

Seeing this, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Am I catching a stray bullet here?

"Alright, stop talking nonsense. Lin Kuang didn’t do anything to me, so stop making wild guesses!" Liu Shilin said irritably, then turned and headed upstairs.

As Liu Shilin disappeared from view, the little witch’s gaze fell back onto Lin Kuang, her big eyes sizing him up. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

"What? Have I gotten more handsome?" he asked with a grin, shaking his head.
