Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 60: Old and Crafty
"Of course. Yesterday, I used True Qi of utmost yang and firmness to counteract the Extreme Yin Cold Qi in your body, so naturally, it was painful. Now, with the power of Tai Chi to balance things out, you feel much more relaxed," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
"So, should I thank you?" Yang Ruoxi asked, tilting her head adorably.
"That won’t be necessary. However, I’d be very happy if you kissed me again," Lin Kuang said, his eyes twinkling with anticipation.
Hearing this, Yang Ruoxi’s pretty face flushed red. She shot Lin Kuang a fierce glare. "You jerk! I’m not talking to you anymore!"
With that, she turned and left, her face still burning.
Watching her graceful figure retreat, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but smile. "What a cute girl," he mused, then walked out of the room and headed downstairs to the living room.
Yang Wucheng was sitting on the sofa, smoking a cigarette. When he saw Lin Kuang come downstairs, he looked up and asked, "Are you done, Lin Kuang?" Though his eyes were stern, they held a trace of hope.
"Yes, I’m done for today," Lin Kuang replied with a slight smile. "Ruoxi is recovering very well. She might not need much more time to be fully healed." He had noticed the worry in Yang Wucheng’s heart, which was why he said that.
Hearing Lin Kuang’s words, Yang Wucheng let out a quiet sigh of relief. His youngest daughter was his greatest concern. Now that there was hope for her recovery, he was naturally overjoyed.
Yang Wucheng smiled, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Lin Kuang, thank you." For a hardened soldier like him, uttering a word of thanks was not easy.
"Uncle Yang, you’re too polite," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
"Come, sit down. The food will be ready soon. Let’s chat," Yang Wucheng offered.
Lin Kuang didn’t refuse. The two sat on the sofa, and as they talked, their conversation eventually turned to military matters.
"By the way, Lin Kuang, if you’re not busy, how about helping me train some soldiers? Our unit has a friendly competition coming up against the Nanjing Military Region, and to be honest, I’m not very confident. If you have the time, how would you like to help me whip those young lads into shape?" Yang Wucheng asked, his eyes gleaming. He hadn’t considered it before, but the idea had surfaced as they chatted.
Upon hearing the offer, Lin Kuang gave a wry smile. "Uncle Yang, isn’t that a bit inappropriate? I just got out of prison and haven’t even been reinstated. It wouldn’t be right for me to go there without a proper title."
In truth, Lin Kuang didn’t want to go. He just wanted to live a quiet life for a while. And yet, the soldier in his bones yearned for the army and that collective sense of honor. He truly enjoyed that life. As a result, Yang Wucheng’s invitation left him feeling deeply conflicted.
But Yang Wucheng was the commander of the East Sea Military Region, and a crafty old fox at that. One look at Lin Kuang’s expression was all it took for him to understand. The young man was hesitant, but he desperately wanted to return to the military.
"Lin Kuang, this is the only request your uncle is making. Besides, you know... Ruoxi is my daughter," the typically iron-faced Yang Wucheng said, suddenly putting on a broad smile. Anyone else who saw it would have thought they were hallucinating. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Listening to Yang Wucheng’s words and seeing that grin, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but shiver. "Uncle Yang, are you threatening me?" he asked with a wry smile. He knew Yang Wucheng had seen his interest in Yang Ruoxi. That was why he’d specifically mentioned she was his daughter. The implication couldn’t have been clearer.
Faced with this kind of threat, Lin Kuang felt utterly cornered. It seemed he really had no way to refuse.
"Not at all. I’m just giving you a little reminder. Besides, it wouldn’t be for long. Just once a week, how about it?" Yang Wucheng said with a grin, laughing inwardly. This kid really does have a thing for my daughter.
"Alright, Uncle Yang," Lin Kuang said with a helpless sigh. "In that case, I suppose it would be rude to refuse." Inwardly, however, he felt a spark of delight at the prospect of setting foot in the army again. There was another reason, too. From Yang Wucheng’s demeanor, it didn’t seem like he was opposed to him and Yang Ruoxi getting together. Of course, nothing is set in stone between Yang Ruoxi and me yet. To be precise, things haven’t even begun to start...
"Haha, excellent! Then how about this weekend? Our SEAL team is quite capable; they definitely won’t disappoint you," Yang Wucheng boomed, clearly overjoyed. To pull Lin Kuang, the legendary "Wild Wolf King," into his own unit was something he had never even dared to imagine.
"Alright. But I’m busy this Saturday evening, so I can only come on Sunday," Lin Kuang replied after a moment’s thought. Fan Bingbing had a concert on Saturday that he had to attend. Since Liu Shilin and Liu Shiyu were going too, how could he possibly miss it?
"No problem. Sunday morning it is. I’ll arrange for a car to pick you up," Yang Wucheng said with a smile.
"There’s no need, Uncle Yang. I’ll drive there myself. Just make sure they let me through at the gate," Lin Kuang said with a laugh.
"Haha, don’t you worry, that’s absolutely no problem. If any of those little bastards dare to stop you, I’ll personally sort them out!" Yang Wucheng declared cheerfully.
Just then, Yang Wucheng’s wife, Zhang Qian, walked over. "Wucheng, Lin Kuang, dinner’s ready. Let’s go eat," she said with a smile.
"Alright. Come on, Lin Kuang, let’s go eat," Yang Wucheng said, pulling him toward the dining room.
The two men sat down together, accompanied by Zhang Qian, Yang Ruotong, and Yang Ruoxi. Of course, the spirited little Xinxin was there as well.
The meal wasn’t lavish, but it perfectly suited Lin Kuang’s taste. He and Yang Wucheng didn’t hold back on the drinks, either. By the end of it, Yang Wucheng’s eyes were bloodshot. Even then, he wanted to keep drinking, but Lin Kuang stopped him. After all, there would be plenty of opportunities to drink in the future.
Finally, after persuading Yang Wucheng to stop, Lin Kuang left the Yang Family’s villa.
Stepping outside and breathing in the fresh air, Lin Kuang felt his spirits lift. He looked up at the bright moon hanging high in the sky, his gaze filled with a complex mix of longing and other emotions. In the end, he just shook his head and headed straight for Liu Shilin’s villa.
Twenty minutes later, Lin Kuang arrived back at the villa. After greeting the two bodyguards at the gate, he walked inside. It was still not quite ten o’clock at night.
In the living room, Liu Shilin and Liu Shiyu were so engrossed in the television that they didn’t even notice his return.
Watching them stare intently at the screen, Lin Kuang couldn’t help but ask curiously, "Ahem, what are you watching that has you so captivated?"
