Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 258: Return to Calm
"Alright, it's okay. Everything's fine now."
Raising his hand, Lin Kuang gently wiped the tears from the two girls' cheeks, his voice soft and filled with a concern he himself didn't fully recognize.
Hearing this, Liu Shilin and the Witch obediently nodded, aware that Lin Kuang still had other matters to attend to.
"Then, we'll go inside first. You be careful," Liu Shilin whispered, glancing at Fan Sheng and his companions.
"Go on. I'll be back soon," Lin Kuang said with a smile.
Liu Shilin and the Witch nodded again, then turned and went back into their room.
Once the women had left, Lin Kuang pulled the Nameless dagger from where it was embedded between Fan Long's eyebrows. His gaze was calm as he looked at Fan Sheng.
"I'm glad you didn't make a move just now. You should also be glad that you're not dead," Lin Kuang said calmly, as if he were simply stating a fact.
Hearing this, Fan Sheng couldn't help but shiver, a bitter smile forming on his face.
"You killed Fan Long. He was Fan Bingbing's first cousin and a core member of the Fan Family. You're going to be in big trouble." Looking at Lin Kuang, Fan Sheng said with a bitter smile, his words a clear warning.
Lin Kuang just nodded noncommittally. "So what? Fan Long deserved to die, didn't he?"
Fan Sheng said nothing, only nodding in agreement. Fan Long's actions had indeed deserved death. If Fan Sheng had been in Lin Kuang's position, he would have killed him outright as well.
"Phew... thank you for not killing us. However, we'll probably face some punishment," Fan Sheng said, looking at Lin Kuang earnestly. "Regardless, thank you. Since we failed to kill you this time, the three of us will likely be returning to the Fan Family. And given the Family Head's personality, he won't let you off so easily. I hope you'll look after yourself."
"Thank you. When you return to the Fan Family, please don't tell Bingbing about this. I don't want her to worry about me or do anything reckless. Please," Lin Kuang said with a smile, though his tone was grave.
Fan Sheng nodded again. "Alright. We'll keep our lips sealed. Goodbye, then." With that, he bowed slightly.
Lin Kuang nodded. "Right. Farewell."
Fan Sheng nodded one last time before leading Fan Bin and Fan Ting away.
As the three of them got into their car, Fan Ting asked doubtfully, "Second Brother, do you really think what you did will lessen the trouble for the Fan Family?"
Fan Sheng let out a bitter laugh. "I don't know. I just wanted to do my small part to bring some peace to the Fan Family. Besides, from what I've seen of the King of the Underworld, he doesn't seem like someone who enjoys killing. So, I'd rather believe that my actions will yield some positive return."
Hearing his words, Fan Ting nodded.
Fan Bin gently patted Fan Sheng's shoulder. "Second Brother, you've shouldered a heavy burden," he said earnestly, a hint of bitterness on his face.
Taking a deep breath, Fan Sheng forced a smile. "It's nothing. As a member of the Fan Family, it's what I should do."
Fan Ting looked at Fan Sheng seriously. "Second Brother, perhaps you did the right thing, because Lin Kuang is even stronger than you've seen. What he showed just now wasn't his full strength. Maybe only fifty or sixty percent of it."
At her words, Fan Bin and Fan Sheng's expressions changed drastically, and both men gasped. Instantly, the atmosphere in the car grew heavy again. No one spoke a word as Fan Sheng drove away quickly.
Meanwhile, Lin Kuang cleaned up the battlefield, taking away the corpses to be buried before finally returning to Liu Shilin's villa.
Inside, Liu Shilin and the Witch were waiting for him on the sofa. When they saw him return, the two women breathed a deep sigh of relief. They only felt truly safe when he was present.
Seeing their beautiful eyes, still somewhat red and swollen, Lin Kuang's heart couldn't help but ache. Sitting between them, he said apologetically, "I'm sorry. I dragged you both into this."
"No, it's okay. We're a family," Liu Shilin said softly, her face flushing.
Her words made Lin Kuang's heart tremble, and a smile spread across his face. "Yes, we are a family." As he spoke, he pulled Liu Shilin into his embrace, his other hand taking the Witch's. The Witch's delicate body trembled slightly. She said nothing, but her doll-like face flushed red.
An unknown amount of time passed before Lin Kuang noticed the sound of even breathing from his arms. He turned and saw that Liu Shilin had fallen asleep quietly. Carefully shifting to support her, he turned to the Witch. "I'll take Shilin upstairs."
"Okay. I... I'll go take a shower." As she spoke, an unusual blush flashed across the Witch's delicate, doll-like face.
Seeing this, Lin Kuang was slightly startled and gave her an expectant look. The Witch seemed to understand his unspoken question. She said nothing, merely biting her lip and nodding with a flushed face before running off.
A slight smile touched his lips. He understood what the Witch meant; she would come to him tonight. The thought immediately put him in a wonderful mood.
He carried Liu Shilin to her room and gently placed her on the soft bed. After lightly kissing the corner of her lips, he covered her with a blanket and quietly closed the door behind him.
Stepping out of the room, he heard the sound of water running in a bathroom upstairs, and the smile on his face widened. Lin Kuang quickly went downstairs, changed his clothes, took a quick shower, and returned to his own room.
Back in his room, Lin Kuang lay quietly on the bed, awaiting the Witch's arrival.
「Meanwhile.」
Fan Sheng, Fan Bin, and Fan Ting had returned to their hotel. Fan Sheng immediately took out his phone and once again dialed the Family Head's private number.
Before long, the Fan Family Head answered. "What is it?" a low voice came through the phone. The tone carried the unmistakable authority of a superior, which instantly made Fan Sheng feel reverent.
Fan Sheng physically bowed, as if the Family Head were standing right in front of him. "Family Head," he said respectfully, "Fan Long and the two cold-faced assassins failed. They are dead."
The voice on the other end of the line fell silent. After a full minute or two, the Family Head's voice sounded again. "And why are you unharmed? Don't you owe me an explanation?"
The low voice spoke again, this time seemingly flickering with murderous intent.
