Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 239: Family Head’s Decision
"Second Brother, why didn't we just attack that arrogant jerk?! He's just too insolent!" Fan Ting said indignantly while sitting in the car, looking as if she wanted to tear Lin Kuang limb from limb.
"Tingting, don't talk nonsense!" Fan Bin said sternly upon hearing his sister's words.
Fan Ting pouted and fell silent. She had always been a little afraid of her eldest brother.
"It's simple," Fan Sheng began. "I wasn't confident we could win, and more importantly, we must not underestimate the threat from the King of the Underworld.
"If we can't kill him, he will surely eliminate us. We aren't afraid of death, of course, but we can't make a pointless sacrifice.
"Besides, if we were really killed, do you think the King of the Underworld would just let the matter drop? If he attacked the Fan Family, with his level of strength, he would throw our entire family into chaos. That would be a very unwise choice for us.
"And most importantly, the Family Head underestimated the King of the Underworld. He is far more powerful than the Family Head—or any of us—anticipated.
"I can assure you, what we just saw wasn't the full extent of his strength. His power is unfathomable!" Fan Sheng finished, his tone utterly grave and serious.
Hearing his words, both Fan Bin and Fan Ting were visibly shaken.
"Second Brother, that... that can't be possible, can it? Is he really that strong? Are you sure you didn't see things wrong?" Fan Ting blurted out. She wore an expression of sheer disbelief, finding the news too difficult to accept. Even Fan Bin stared at Fan Sheng, finding it equally impossible to believe.
Fan Sheng offered a wry smile. "Big Brother, Tingting, surely you know me by now? I'm a very cautious person. In fact, I suspect that what I just said still underestimates his true strength. In short, the King of the Underworld is strong, much stronger than we imagined. We must not act rashly!" he warned, glancing at his siblings with grave seriousness.
His words left Fan Bin and Fan Ting deeply shocked. While a large part of them remained incredulous, Fan Sheng's serious expression convinced them to trust his words, even if their minds reeled at the implication.
Upon returning to the hotel, Fan Sheng immediately dialed the Family Head's number. Even though it was late, the call had to be made. When the Family Head answered, Fan Sheng quickly recounted the events that had just transpired.
The person on the other end of the line fell silent, seemingly pondering the new information. After a considerable while, the Family Head finally spoke. "It seems we did indeed underestimate his strength. Fan Sheng, if you were to attack with everyone, what are your chances?"
The Family Head's intention is clear. He still wants to move against Lin Kuang, Fan Sheng sighed inwardly.
After a moment of thought, he answered very seriously, "The most likely outcome is that we would both suffer devastating losses. I cannot guarantee victory."
The other party fell silent once again.
"Then wait. I will dispatch someone stronger. For the next two days, avoid all contact with him," the Family Head's somber voice instructed.
"Yes, Family Head," Fan Sheng replied respectfully, though his heart felt bitter. This is an incredibly unwise decision, but against the Family Head, I'm completely powerless.
"Good. That is all. Just wait for us in East Sea." With that, the Family Head hung up.
Stepping out of his room, Fan Sheng let out a helpless sigh.
"Second Brother, what did the Family Head say?" Fan Ting asked, rushing over as soon as she saw him.
"The Family Head is sticking to his original decision. He's sending stronger people to support us," Fan Sheng said with a hint of resignation.
"That's a good thing, isn't it? This way, the King of the Underworld will be taken out for sure. Why is that bad?" Fan Ting asked, confused.
"That may be true, but what if he isn't killed? Then he'll become more cautious, more careful. He might even target our Fan Family directly. You have to understand, if someone that powerful, someone with his kind of background, truly decides to strike at the Fan Family, we would be in for a world of trouble!" Fan Sheng explained earnestly, looking at his sister.
"Oh," Fan Ting murmured, nodding as if she only partially understood.
Beside them, Fan Bin's expression turned grim. He understood exactly what Fan Sheng was talking about.
"Alright, let's not dwell on it for now," Fan Sheng said with a forced smile. "Since the Family Head has made his decision, he will be the one to bear the consequences. We'll just wait for the next few days. Besides, it's been a while since we came to East Sea. We can take this chance to enjoy ourselves a little."
Some things, if you can't change them, you just have to endure them silently. Thinking too much only adds to your troubles.
Hearing his words, Fan Bin and Fan Ting could only nod. The three of them then went their separate ways, returning to their respective rooms.
Meanwhile, Lin Kuang had finished disposing of the bodies at the estate and made his way to the Yang Family's villa. It was nearly eleven o'clock at night. The earlier confrontation had caused a significant delay, and dealing with the aftermath took time.
As he walked through the gate, he saw that the lights in the main hall were still on. To his surprise, however, the person waiting up wasn't Yang Ruoxi but Yang Ruotong.
"Sister Ruotong, you're still up?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile, his eyes taking in her graceful, curvaceous figure clad in a nightgown.
"Hmm. What brings you here at this hour? Didn't you see Ruoxi's calls?" Yang Ruotong asked, looking at him curiously.
"Uh, Ruoxi called me? I had no idea." Lin Kuang quickly pulled out his phone, only to discover with embarrassment that the battery was dead.
"Ahem, it was off. Sister Ruotong, is Ruoxi not home?" he asked with a mix of curiosity and hopeful expectation.
Seeing the look on his face, Yang Ruotong couldn't help but blush. She could tell he might have had something in mind.
"Yes, Ruoxi isn't home tonight," she said, her cheeks still flushed. "She left with my father to attend a banquet. She's staying at his place tonight."
"Oh? What banquet?" Lin Kuang asked curiously as he sat down beside her.
"It's all because Chen Zhongrui arrived in East Sea. Some prominent figures hosted a banquet in his honor, and my father was invited. As for taking Ruoxi, that was my father's idea. It seems he wants to use the occasion to make Chen Shaowen give up on his delusions once and for all," Yang Ruotong explained with a smile.
Hearing this, Lin Kuang nodded, but a pang of guilt struck him. My phone was off... What must Ruoxi be thinking? And I'm only finding out about something so important now. I've really let her down.
"Will she be back tomorrow morning?" Lin Kuang asked, looking at Yang Ruotong.
"Yes," Yang Ruotong said with a smile. "My father will bring her back tomorrow morning."
