Chapter 23: Chapter 23 A Good Person

Hearing Lin Kuang’s words, Liu Shilin was stunned. She knew her skin was sensitive. Even a firm pinch would leave a red mark that wouldn’t fade for at least a day and a half. Just now, the scarred man had been choking her for so long and with such force; she was certain her neck must be completely red.

Now, hearing what Lin Kuang said, she couldn’t help but turn and walk to the mirror. The next moment, her eyes widened in disbelief. In the mirror, her neck was as smooth as ever, without the slightest hint of redness.

Seeing this, Liu Shilin’s face instantly turned crimson, so red it looked as if it could bleed. She had assumed Lin Kuang was treating her like she was easy, taking the opportunity to take advantage of her. Yet, she never imagined that not only had he not taken advantage of her, but he had actually removed the marks from her neck.

That wasn’t all. The crucial part was that she had just warned him and said such accusatory words. The embarrassment was overwhelming. She wished she could find a crack in the floor to crawl into and hide.

Gathering her courage, Liu Shilin decided she had to apologize. After all, she was the one who had misunderstood him, no matter how awkward it would be.

But just as she turned to apologize, she saw that Lin Kuang was no longer in the living room. He had already returned to his room.

Seeing this, Liu Shilin was taken aback once more, and her favorable impression of him grew significantly. She realized he had left early to save her from embarrassment. It was hard not to feel affection for a man so considerate and perceptive.

Gazing at his closed door, Liu Shilin murmured, "I’m sorry, I misunderstood you."

With joy welling in her heart, she walked upstairs. At that moment, she felt a great sense of relief, as if after three lonely years, she had finally found someone to rely on. It was a wonderful feeling—or at least, that was how she felt.

In his room, Lin Kuang had changed into his pajamas. He knew Liu Shilin had misunderstood him, so to avoid any awkwardness, he had returned to his room ahead of time. After sitting there for a moment, he heard Liu Shilin’s footsteps going upstairs. Only then did he leave his room and head to the bathroom.

After briefly freshening up, Lin Kuang returned to his room. He took out his phone and saw that it was already 12:30 AM. There was a missed call and a text message. He opened his phone to see that the call and text were both from Fan Bingbing. They had come in while he was at the bar; it had been so noisy he must not have heard his phone ring.

The text simply said to give her a call when he wasn’t busy, and it was signed by Fan Bingbing.

Lin Kuang smiled to himself. Checking the time, he decided it was too late to call and opted to send a text message instead. He explained that he hadn’t heard his phone and had just seen the message, then asked if she was still awake.

A moment later, his phone lit up with a reply from Fan Bingbing. "No. Did something happen?"

Lin Kuang continued texting with her, briefly recounting the evening’s events without going into too much detail. They chatted like this until almost one in the morning before finally bidding each other goodnight and going to sleep.

The night passed peacefully. The next morning at 5:30 AM, Lin Kuang got up on schedule. He went to the bathroom to freshen up, then returned to his room and changed into a white tracksuit and matching white sneakers. Liu Shilin had bought these for him on their shopping trip yesterday. It just went to show how very thoughtful she was.

Once dressed, Lin Kuang stepped out of the villa, greeted the two bodyguards at the gate, and began his daily morning run.

His destination was the square up ahead. The thought of it filled him with anticipation, hoping to once again see the Tai Chi girl with the serene smile.

About ten minutes later, Lin Kuang arrived at the square. However, to his disappointment, the Tai Chi girl wasn’t there.

Perhaps she’s already left... Oh well. Maybe I’ll get another chance to see her, he thought, continuing his run.

Just when he thought the girl wasn’t coming back, at 6:10 AM, she appeared in the square. She was still in a white practice uniform and a pair of white cloth shoes. Her serene face still wore the same tranquil smile as before.

The girl didn’t seem to notice Lin Kuang. She stood in the same spot as yesterday, quietly practicing Chen Style Tai Chi.

The moment he saw her, a smile broke across Lin Kuang’s face. For some reason, the sight of this girl with her serene smile calmed his heart, and he felt an instinctive urge to approach her. This wasn’t about trying to pick her up; it was a simple, pure desire to talk with her.

After running around the square for another ten minutes, Lin Kuang approached the Tai Chi girl with a smile. He stopped and greeted her warmly, "Hey, we meet again."

The Tai Chi girl smiled and nodded at him. "Yes, we meet again. What are you up to?" she asked, her serene smile holding a hint of playful mischief.

"Nothing much," Lin Kuang replied with a smile. "I just saw you and wanted to say hi."

"Alright. Seeing how sincere you are, I’ll believe you," the girl said with a smile.

"You should believe me. Good guys like me are hard to find," Lin Kuang said, a harmless smile playing on his lips.

The girl pursed her lips. "Bad guys are all like you, pretending to be good. When does a bad guy ever admit he’s bad?"

"Uh, but I really am a good guy," Lin Kuang countered weakly; it seemed he really had no way to prove he was a good person.

"Fine, so you’re a good guy. It doesn’t have anything to do with me, anyway," the girl said, her large eyes watching him quietly.

Hearing this, Lin Kuang paused for a moment. "You’re right," he said. "I guess it really doesn’t have anything to do with you."

She giggled. "You’re so interesting! Like a lovable fool." Her pure expression stirred something inexplicable in Lin Kuang’s heart.

"Really? I’m actually quite clever," Lin Kuang said with a smile, looking at the tranquil and innocent girl before him. "So, are you going to tell me your name today?"

Never before had he felt such a strong desire to know someone’s name. This was a first.
