The Vampire's King Pet-Chapter 49: An encounter with a rogue
Back at the castle, Arthur and Derick were still looking for the cause of the rogue attacks. They hadn’t even had time to think for themselves.
Faith opened the door to the room, causing both Derick and Arthur to look up. "Aren’t you guys bored of working all day? I’m already bored," she said before slumping into one of the chairs.
Derick returned his attention to his books. "Noct is facing a very serious issue. There might be a war, or something worse is coming, and you expect us to relax?" he asked, his eyes never leaving the book he was reading.
Faith almost rolled her eyes. She wondered why he was always so serious. "That’s not for you to shoulder. It’s the king’s and his subordinates’ duty. You guys are really loyal to the king," she said with a teasing smile.
Derick’s hand formed a fist as he dropped the book he was holding and looked at her. "Are you here to start a fight? Last time I checked, you were supposed to be looking for someone. Can’t you do your work properly? Are you even someone we can rely on?" he asked, the anger and irritation clear in his voice.
Faith glared at him. "Are you always this moody? Why do you always doubt my identity as a witch? Do you think I’m being cunning and deceiving you all?" she asked angrily.
Arthur simply stared at the two of them in silence. He was enjoying their little banter but he had to stop it before they get more angry at each other. He wanted to say something but Derick spoke immediatly.
"If you’re a true witch, or someone we can rely on, then prove it!" Derick retorted.
Faith stared at him, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She was angry and furious, but at that moment, she couldn’t think of anything to say.
"Fine," she said, and with that, she walked out of the room. The door slammed shut as soon as she left.
Derick let out a sigh. He hated getting annoyed, but Faith always knew how to get on his nerves. He didn’t know why he always got worked up because of her.
Arthur turned to Derick. "That was a little too harsh. Women get easily hurt by words," he said, closing the book in front of him.
"Alexander will be back in a few days. We need to find information worth taking us forward," Derick replied, and Arthur nodded.
"What have you found out?"
___
Faith walked out of the palace. She was fuming with anger as she stood in the garden. She hated the fact that Derick didn’t trust her; instead, he always looked for ways to anger her.
He’s such an arsehole, she cursed inwardly.
Faith walked back into the castle. She went to her room and changed into something more comfortable—a tunic shirt with trousers and leather boots. She packed her hair into a bun before walking back outside.
She travelled deep into the woods. She needed to get to her old house to retrieve something. Faith went out in disguise, covering half of her face with a cloth to avoid recognition.
She finally got to the house. It was still standing in the middle of nowhere. She opened the door and walked in. It was still the same as the day she left—the house was turned upside down, dried bloodstains everywhere.
She passed by them and walked up the stairs to her room. She searched through different drawers in search of something, but she couldn’t find it. After searching for a long time, she rested for a few minutes, lying on the floor, her eyes staring at the ceiling.
Faith frowned before sitting up. The drawings on the ceiling looked familiar. She stood up and followed the lines until they landed on a wooden plank on the wall. She touched it, trying to open it, but it didn’t budge. Out of desperation, she used her magic, sending a force of black wind into the room, breaking it into pieces.
The wooden piece fell to the ground, revealing a small box. Faith pulled out the box and sat on the floor before opening it. Inside was a large book. She pulled it out, a smile stretching across her face.
Found it.
The book was ancient, with strange patterns etched onto it. She tried opening the book, but it wouldn’t budge. It was a special book—only the chosen one could open it. She would try again once she returned to Alexander’s castle.
Faith stood up, holding the book in her hands. She snapped her fingers, and the book vanished. She walked out of her room, only to hear faint noises downstairs. She paused. There was no one in the house except her, so who could it be?
Faith thought maybe it was Zelda; she was the only one who knew she lived here. She walked down the stairs and was about to speak when a force hit her, sending her flying straight into the wall.
Faith’s back collided with the wall with a loud thud as she fell to the ground. She let out a groan of pain. Faith managed to sit up, wondering what the hell that was.
She looked around, and at that moment, she heard a growl—an unnatural kind. She managed to stand up, chanting a spell. The smoke dispersed, revealing the creatures standing there.
Her eyes widened in horror as two large, unnaturally shaped creatures stood just a few feet away from her. They had long, slender legs and huge bodies, with elongated hands ending in sharp nails. Their red eyes stared angrily at her.
Faith took a step backward. Rogues? What were they doing here? she asked herself.
"Listen, you ugly creatures, I don’t have time to waste fighting you. Why don’t you walk away, and there won’t be any bloodbath?" Faith said, sarcasm lacing her voice as she massaged her shoulder.
One of the rogues let out an ear-shattering scream and charged at her with speed.
*I guess not...*
The creature jumped, stretching its long claws. It wanted to stab her, but it froze mid-air. Faith smirked, her eyes shining crimson. With her magic, she froze it and swung her hand. At that moment, the rogue flew away, its body shattering everything it came into contact with before falling to the ground.
Faith pulled out a knife from her pocket and jumped, launching herself at the second rogue without warning. She landed on its neck, stabbing it at the crook.
The rogue let out a painful scream as it thrashed, trying to get her off its shoulders, but Faith didn’t plan to stop. She kept stabbing it continuously as black blood oozed from the creature.
The rogue grabbed Faith’s hair and flung her off its neck. Faith was about to collide with the wall, but she regained her balance, using it as leverage. Her legs pushed against the wall, bouncing her back toward the creature. She stabbed its heart, but before she could strike again, it slapped her away, and she fell to the ground.
Faith coughed in pain and touched her neck, blood seeping from the claw marks. She gritted her teeth in anger and stood up. The rogue, equally enraged, grabbed a piece of furniture and threw it at her, but Faith used her magic to hurl it elsewhere.
Faith was getting tired. She used her magic to control the rogue, gripping its neck with invisible force. As she squeezed her hand, the pressure on its neck intensified.
She screamed, pushing her power to the limit. The rogue collapsed to the ground, dead. Faith let out a shaky breath. She walked toward the body, ensuring it was dead, before dragging it out of her house.
Just then, she heard another scream from inside. The other rogue wasn’t dead. She could hear the thumping of its feet against the wooden floor from outside.
Faith’s eyes searched around for something to defend herself with. Just as the rogue was about to burst through the front door, she whispered something to her finger. A small flame appeared at the tip, and in that moment, the building was set ablaze. The fire engulfed the house within seconds.
The creature inside screamed in agony as the flames intensified, the wooden house collapsing moments later. Faith’s eyes lost their glow as she knelt down, her heart racing so fast she had to lie down to calm herself.
After a few minutes, she stood up and looked beside her. The rogue she had killed earlier lay lifeless on the ground.
"I need your body for an experiment," she said before pulling it along with her using magic. She needed to leave this place before more rogues arrived.
The question still lingered in her mind—why had the rogues come here to attack her? What did they want with her, and who exactly was this mysterious person causing havoc around Noct?
No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn’t find the answer.
