Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 183 The Lin Family’s Invitation
"COUGH. COUGH. Yes, yes. Whatever the Chief says, goes," Lin Kuang said with a grin.
"Alright, you rascal, stop showing off. I’m actually thinking about poaching you for our East Sea Military Region. My only worry is that those old fossils in Yanjing won’t let you go," Yang Wucheng said, sizing Lin Kuang up with a smile. The more he looked at Lin Kuang, the more he liked him. He desperately wished he could snatch him up for the East Sea. However, Yang Wucheng also knew that poaching Lin Kuang would be harder than ascending to the heavens.
"Well, if you could actually make that happen, I wouldn’t mind joining the East Sea Military Region," Lin Kuang replied with a grin.
Hearing this, Yang Wucheng shot him an irritated glare. "Kid, stop trying to provoke me. It’s useless. Even if you rile me up, I still can’t make it happen. I heard you’ve offended quite a few people, haven’t you? Do you need me to step in?"
A rush of warmth filled Lin Kuang’s heart. Yang Wucheng wouldn’t have offered unless he was truly willing to help. However, Lin Kuang didn’t need help with such trivial matters. Besides, he was usually bored when things were quiet. Having a few adversaries and some trouble to deal with made life interesting.
"Thank you for your concern, Chief, but it’s not necessary for now. They’re just a bunch of small fry. I can handle them by myself," Lin Kuang replied with a grin, his tone making it clear he didn’t take them seriously.
Hearing this, Yang Wucheng chuckled. "You’ve got a big mouth, kid, but I like it. HAHA! Go on, do what you need to do. I have to get going."
Yang Wucheng clapped Lin Kuang on the shoulder and turned to leave. With a slight smile, Lin Kuang got in his car and drove off as well.
Lin Kuang was on his way back to the Liu Family’s estate when his phone rang. The caller was none other than Lin Guo’er. Lin Kuang wondered why she was calling but answered anyway.
"Hey, beautiful Guo’er, you miss me already?" Lin Kuang asked with a smile.
"I do! I miss you so, so much. And you didn’t even think to call me. I’m so hurt," Lin Guo’er’s voice was cloyingly sweet, laced with a playful grievance that made Lin Kuang’s heart flutter.
"COUGH. COUGH. Guo’er, don’t talk to me like that. I’m driving. A voice like yours could easily make my adrenaline spike, and I might get into an accident," Lin Kuang said, a helpless note in his voice.
Lin Guo’er giggled. "Really? When did your self-control get so weak?"
"Normally my self-control is pretty good, but it’s hard to withstand the charms of a great beauty like you," Lin Kuang said with a laugh.
"Tsk, you’re obviously lying. Anyway, are you free tonight? My dad wants to treat you to dinner as an apology for the other night," Lin Guo’er huffed. She was still very unhappy about what her father had done and was clearly still angry about it.
"Hmm, that depends. Is his daughter sincere about it? If she is, then I’ll go," Lin Kuang mused with a grin.
Hearing this, Lin Guo’er rolled her eyes playfully. "Handsome Lin, what kind of sincerity are you looking for? Do you want little Guo’er to offer herself in marriage?" she teased.
"Hmm, I suppose that could work. Or maybe you could just keep me company tonight? Otherwise, the night will be long and I’ll be so bored," Lin Kuang replied with a sly smile.
She giggled, her voice filled with seduction. "Is that so? Then come on over. My bed is huge; there’s more than enough room for two. Want to try?"
Lin Kuang nodded. "Perfect! Wait for me at home; I’ll be there in less than half an hour. By the way, where are we eating? I’m a very picky eater."
"It’s a home-cooked meal by your future mother-in-law. What do you think?" Lin Guo’er said with a smile.
"Oh, is that right? Well, if my future mother-in-law is cooking, then I definitely have to be there! Wait for me, I’m on my way!" As he spoke, Lin Kuang grinned and slammed on the accelerator, his car speeding up significantly.
She giggled proudly. "I forgot to tell you, I—your future wife—will be helping out too! You’ll get to taste my cooking!"
"Oh? My future wife’s cooking? Tsk, tsk. In that case, I’ll have to savor it properly. You go on and get to it. I’m hanging up now, I’ll be there very soon."
Lin Kuang hung up and steered the car toward Lin Guo’er’s house. He had been there the night before last, and Lin Kuang never forgot a place he had visited.
Exactly half an hour later, Lin Kuang parked beside the Lin Family estate. He got out of the car and walked toward the entrance, where two bodyguards reached out to stop him.
"Good evening, sir. May I ask who you’re here to see?" one of them asked respectfully. After all, the Maserati he was driving was worth a fortune. This clearly meant Lin Kuang was no ordinary person, and they wouldn’t dare disrespect someone like him.
"I’m Lin Kuang. The Head of the Lin Family invited me over. You can go and notify him," Lin Kuang said with a smile. I’m not particularly fond of Lin Wanli, but he’s Guo’er’s father after all. I can’t be too disrespectful.
Hearing this, the two bodyguards exchanged a glance. They looked Lin Kuang up and down, and seeing no sign of deception, one of them said, "Please wait a moment," before turning and heading into the estate.
Lin Kuang stood at the entrance, looking around as he waited for the bodyguard to return.
Less than two minutes later, Lin Wanli himself came out. His face was wreathed in smiles, though they looked slightly awkward.
"Lin Kuang, you’re finally here! COUGH. COUGH. Forgive an old man for being presumptuous, but I’ll call you Lin Kuang. You don’t mind, do you?" Lin Wanli said, approaching him with some awkwardness.
Lin Kuang smiled faintly. "Uncle Lin, you’re too kind. Calling me Lin Kuang is perfectly fine."
Lin Wanli let out a subtle sigh of relief. He had been worried that Lin Kuang would be displeased or act arrogantly because of what happened the other night. Now, however, Lin Kuang’s perfectly polite attitude only made Lin Wanli feel even more awkward.
"COUGH. COUGH. Lin Kuang, let’s go inside. Let’s talk inside," Lin Wanli said quickly.
Lin Kuang nodded with a smile and followed Lin Wanli into the Lin Family villa.
The villa’s interior was simply decorated, yet it exuded an air of grandeur. A clatter of sounds drifted from the kitchen, where Lin Guo’er and her mother were obviously busy.
"Lin Kuang, please, have a seat. Sit down and we’ll talk," Lin Wanli urged again. His demeanor was extremely welcoming—not that he dared to be anything else.
