Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 168: Uproot Completely
"Alright, it’s time. Let’s move in!" one of them said.
At his word, the rest nodded. A dozen men stormed out of the room, and the moment they appeared, two grenades flew toward Lin Kuang.
Seeing this, Lin Kuang’s pupils constricted. He dove back, simultaneously hurling the two empty Type 54 pistols in his hands.
CLANG! CLANG!
The pistols struck the incoming grenades, and Lin Kuang dropped flat to the ground.
BOOM! BOOM!
The grenades detonated, shaking the entire building. Flames erupted, and the powerful shockwave washed over Lin Kuang’s back, leaving him deeply uncomfortable. However, he knew this was no time to be dazed. He sprang to his feet.
The moment the flames died down, Lin Kuang charged forward. Across from him, the group of assassins was still disoriented by the explosions, which was precisely when he reached them. He slammed a fist into one man’s chest, killing him instantly and causing him to spit out a mouthful of blood.
Just then, the other assassins snapped out of their daze. They raised their submachine guns at Lin Kuang and unleashed a wild spray of bullets. In response, Lin Kuang grabbed the dead assassin’s body and used it as a human shield. He took the man’s submachine gun, pulled the trigger, and returned fire with a furious barrage!
RAT-A-TAT-TAT...
Gunfire roared as bullet after bullet flew from the barrel. The corpse in front of Lin Kuang was riddled with holes, but he managed to take down five or six of the Dark Blood assassins on the other side. The survivors fell back, scrambling for cover.
Seeing this, Lin Kuang sighed in relief and quickly stripped the body of its submachine gun, two extra magazines, and a Desert Eagle. With a weapon in hand, he could finally breathe a little easier. After all, his opponents were numerous and well-armed. Rushing in with his bare hands would have been suicide.
Lin Kuang charged forward again, his submachine gun firing wildly while the Desert Eagle in his other hand picked off any stragglers. The remaining assassins, though skilled, were simply no match for him. In a matter of minutes, he had eliminated them all.
After finishing them off, Lin Kuang meticulously swept the area to ensure there were no survivors. Only then did he take a few of their grenades and leave.
When he reached the factory entrance, he found some oil drums and tipped them over, spilling their contents all over the ground. He then stepped outside, pulled the pin on a grenade, and hurled it back into the factory.
BOOM!
The grenade exploded, and a towering inferno instantly engulfed the building. Seeing this, Lin Kuang wrapped two more grenades in a piece of discarded clothing and tossed them into the flames. The grenades exploded one after the other. By then, Lin Kuang was already far away, climbing back into the battered Mercedes.
Glancing at the time, he saw it was past eleven at night. He started the car and sped toward the Liu family estate, arriving at Liu Shilin’s home close to midnight. The two bodyguards at the gate saw the severe damage to his car and were baffled, but they dared not ask any questions.
Inside, the lights in the main hall were still on. Liu Shilin and the Little Witch were on the sofa watching TV. Neither of them had gone to bed. The Little Witch wasn’t sleepy, and since tomorrow was Saturday, she had the day off and wasn’t worried about staying up late.
Liu Shilin’s feelings, however, were more complicated. Seeing that Lin Kuang was out so late with his phone off, she couldn’t help but worry that he was off doing something with Lin Guo’er. The thought kept her awake, so both women were waiting up for him.
When Lin Kuang pulled up, the two women naturally heard the sound of the engine and turned to look toward the main gate. They clearly saw the state of his car—the hood was crumpled up, and the windshield was gone. At the sight, both of their expressions froze. They immediately jumped off the sofa and ran outside barefoot.
At that moment, Lin Kuang was getting out of the car. He was a complete mess. His handsome face was smeared with soot, and his clothes were filthy and stained with blood.
Seeing him and the wrecked Mercedes, Liu Shilin and the Little Witch were both left speechless.
Lin Kuang managed a faint smile, his teeth flashing white against his grimy face. "You two haven’t gone to bed yet?"
Although he looked wretched, his body was perfectly fine; he wasn’t injured at all. But of course, Liu Shilin and the Little Witch had no way of knowing that. Seeing his miserable state, their hearts were instantly flooded with worry.
Liu Shilin rushed to his side, her beautiful eyes welling with tears. Ignoring the grime on him, she cupped his blackened face with her hands and asked in a trembling voice, "Lin Kuang, are you... are you alright?" As she spoke, her eyes reddened, and the tears threatened to spill at any moment.
Lin Kuang was taken aback for a second, but when he remembered his appearance, he understood. "It’s okay, Shilin. I know I look like a mess, but I’m not hurt. Guo’er is fine too. Don’t worry. Let’s go inside. I’ll tell you everything."
He reached out and gently rubbed her cheek. But he had forgotten his own hands were caked in grime. His touch left a dark smudge on her pretty cheek, making her look like a little kitten with a dirty nose.
The Little Witch wanted to rush over too, but seeing the two of them, she stopped in her tracks, a complicated emotion stirring within her. It seemed she was envious of Liu Shilin for being so close to Lin Kuang, a chance she herself didn’t have.
Hey! What am I thinking? Don’t tell me I’m starting to like this jerk... Pfft, no way! Absolutely not! How could I possibly have feelings for a scoundrel like him! 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
The Little Witch scoffed internally, but as for her true feelings, perhaps only she knew the answer.
Hearing Lin Kuang’s words, the tears threatening to fall from Liu Shilin’s eyes stopped in their tracks. "Lin Kuang, you... you’re not lying to me, are you?" she asked, her voice filled with disbelief. Seeing him in such a state, she found it hard to believe he was uninjured.
"Why would I lie to you? Tell you what, I’m about to take a shower. You can come in and check for yourself if you don’t believe me," Lin Kuang teased, looking at her kitten-like face.
Hearing this, Liu Shilin’s pretty face flushed crimson. "You scoundrel! Is that all you can think about at a time like this?!" she huffed.
