Unrivaled Soldier in the City-Chapter 163: Intercepting Midway
Upon hearing this, Lin Kuang shuddered. No wonder Li Jiachen invited me out to dinner; it was all for this! He took a deep breath. "Mr. Li, rest assured. I won’t let Bingbing down. I can guarantee it!" Lin Kuang said with the utmost sincerity, looking into Li Jiachen’s eyes.
"I believe you. The Wolf King of the Wild Wolf Special Forces and a member of the Yanjing Lin Family... I can trust you," Li Jiachen said with a smile, looking at Lin Kuang with admiration. "I had you investigated for Bingbing’s sake. I hope you don’t mind. If it’s not too much to ask, just call me Grandpa Li. I think that’s a fair trade, don’t you?"
At that, Lin Kuang smiled slightly. "Hello, Grandpa Li."
"Haha, good! In that case, I won’t stand on ceremony. I’ll call you Little Kuang," Li Jiachen said with a laugh.
Lin Kuang smiled. He certainly didn’t mind. He held a great deal of respect for the old man before him, who seemed to be about the same age as his own grandfather. At the thought of his grandfather, a complicated expression flickered in Lin Kuang’s eyes.
With this new connection, their bond deepened considerably, and the car was soon filled with their cheerful laughter. Li Jiachen wasn’t a man who cared for pomp and ceremony. Just as he’d said, at his age, he had learned to let go of many things. It was precisely because of his age that Li Jiachen valued family above all else. Only kinship truly made him feel alive. After all, blood is thicker than water. When a person gets old, family becomes the most important thing, and that was certainly true for Li Jiachen today.
They randomly chose a Chinese restaurant, as it was Li Jiachen’s preference. When Lin Kuang and Li Jiachen got out of the car, Liu Shilin, Lin Guo’er, and the Witch were already waiting.
The five of them walked into the restaurant. Li Jiachen, acting just like a kindly grandfather, insisted that Lin Kuang and the others do the ordering. Lin Kuang didn’t stand on ceremony and ordered several of his favorite dishes. Liu Shilin and the others, however, were a bit stiff. It would be a lie to say they weren’t intimidated by the extraordinary old man before them. But Li Jiachen didn’t put on any airs at all, which allowed them to breathe a sigh of relief.
They ordered, chatted, and ate. The atmosphere grew increasingly harmonious, and Liu Shilin, Lin Guo’er, and the Witch were no longer so reserved. This was especially true for the Witch. The girl had a naturally carefree and outspoken personality. Once she saw how friendly Li Jiachen was, she stopped holding back and chattered and giggled about anything and everything, much to his delight.
After the meal, Li Jiachen parted ways with the group. He had many matters to attend to and couldn’t afford to linger. Lin Kuang, meanwhile, drove Liu Shilin and the Witch home before driving Lin Guo’er back.
As he drove, soft music played in the car. Lin Guo’er’s beautiful eyes shone with an indescribable excitement. I thought for sure I’d be punished after today’s events, maybe even have a falling out with Dad. But then Li Jiachen showed up. Now, not only will there be no falling out, but the Lin Family has actually benefited from this disaster. To be honest, I’m really happy.
"Lin Kuang, thank you," Lin Guo’er said with a smile, turning her head to look at him as he focused on driving.
"Why be so formal? You’re my girlfriend," Lin Kuang replied with a smile, glancing over at her.
Hearing this, Lin Guo’er shot him an exasperated look. "You! It was such a sweet moment, and you just had to go and ruin the mood."
"Eh? I thought it was pretty good. Right, my dear wifey Guo’er?" Lin Kuang said with a grin.
Lin Guo’er’s pretty face flushed. "Then when are you going to marry me? A girl can only wait so long, you know." As she spoke, her beautiful eyes fixed on Lin Kuang.
"Uh, that question... Now that’s a tough one," Lin Kuang said, sounding troubled.
"See? The moment things get serious, you chicken out! You jerk!" Lin Guo’er snapped.
"Uh, no, that’s not it! It’s just that there’s been too much happening lately, and I have even more on my plate. Marrying you... it just can’t be right now," Lin Kuang said plaintively.
"Tch. As if anyone would believe you. But still, thank you, for real this time." With that, Lin Guo’er giggled, her mood clearly excellent.
"Well, if you really want to thank me, actions speak louder than words, you know," Lin Kuang said with a sly grin, his gaze sweeping over Lin Guo’er’s white evening gown.
At his words, Lin Guo’er’s pretty face blushed, and a glimmer appeared in her beautiful eyes. "Alright then. I’m going home tonight. If you dare, you can come with me. I’ve said it before, if you dare to come to my room, I won’t be stingy," she said with a sly smile, playfully flicking his chin.
"Oh, really? In that case, I’ll risk it all tonight! The worst that can happen is I’ll do you a hundred times!" Lin Kuang declared, looking like a martyr marching to his doom.
Hearing this, Lin Guo’er shot him a fierce glare. "You pervert! Who wants you to do it a hundred times? You’d die of exhaustion!"
"Not a chance. I’m in great shape. Two hundred wouldn’t even be a problem," Lin Kuang said with a wicked grin.
"Tch! Then let’s just see about that. If you can’t even make it to two hundred, just see how I’ll deal with you!" Lin Guo’er retorted, her face flushed red.
"You’re the one who said it," she purred, looking so impossibly alluring that Lin Kuang was tempted to have a go with her right there in the car. "If you can’t even make it to a hundred, then we’ll see how I deal with *you*."
Just as Lin Kuang was about to speak, a sudden sense of mortal peril erupted in his heart. It felt as if the Grim Reaper himself had descended, shocking Lin Kuang to his core.
"Get down!" he yelled.
The next instant, before Lin Guo’er could even react, Lin Kuang slammed her down onto the passenger seat with his right hand, ducking down himself. The moment they were both down, a gunshot rang out abruptly. Immediately after, the Mercedes’ window shattered as a bullet tore through the driver’s seat! If Lin Kuang hadn’t moved so fast, that bullet would have pierced his skull.
"Don’t move! Stay down!" Lin Kuang ordered hastily. He then popped back up, a Desert Eagle appearing in his right hand. He aimed the black muzzle at the car ahead and opened fire.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Three bullets shot out, shattering the passenger-side window of the other car, but the driver was unharmed. In that instant, Lin Kuang got a clear look at his opponent. It was a cold-looking man of about thirty, also holding a Desert Eagle, its muzzle aimed straight at Lin Kuang’s head.
The next moment, the man fired again. Seeing this, Lin Kuang pulled the trigger without a moment’s hesitation.
The two cars were speeding down the highway, making an accurate shot incredibly difficult. And yet, under these exact conditions, the bullet Lin Kuang fired seemed to have eyes of its own, colliding with the enemy’s bullet in mid-air. The two projectiles exploded in the night sky, erupting in a shower of sparks.
