Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Learning the Truth

Hearing Zhou Datao’s words, Chu Zhongtian’s expression visibly shifted. π•—π—Ώπ•–πžπ°π—²π•“π§π• π•§π—²π₯.πšŒπ¨πš–

"Zhou Datao from the East Sea Leopard Hall?" Chu Zhongtian asked, surprised.

"Indeed, it is I. I wonder if Mr. Chu has some time to spare? If so, perhaps we could meet at the Xiangya Club," Zhou Datao said with a smile. His tone was neither humble nor haughty, and he appeared perfectly calm, as if Chu Zhongtian were just an ordinary person.

Upon hearing this, a hint of confusion appeared in Chu Zhongtian’s eyes. He couldn’t figure out why this underworld boss wanted to see him.

"Very well. Since you’ve asked, Mr. Zhou, of course I’ll agree. How about we meet at the Xiangya Club at 8:30 tonight?" Chu Zhongtian asked with a smile.

"Of course. I’ll leave all the arrangements to you, Mr. Chu," Zhou Datao replied with a smile.

"Alright then. We’ll speak again tonight," Chu Zhongtian said, smiling.

"Very well. Goodbye, Mr. Chu."

With that, both men hung up their phones.

What does this old fox want with me? Tsk, tsk. Interesting. I’ll see what this is about tonight. With that thought, Chu Zhongtian buried himself in his work.

In a luxurious villa in East Sea, Ye Tiannan and Liu Dong were seated, with more than a dozen of their subordinates standing behind them. Kneeling before them was a woman in tattered, blood-soaked clothes. A closer look revealed that this was the very same woman who had eavesdropped on Ye Tiannan and Liu Dong discussing Lin Kuang’s assassination.

"You damn whore, are you going to talk or not? Who did you tell what you heard that night?!" Ye Tiannan demanded coldly, staring at the woman before him.

"I... I... I don’t know anything! Young Master Ye, please, I’m begging you, let me go! I really don’t know anything," the woman stammered, her body trembling.

"Stop bullshitting me!" Ye Tiannan sneered. "I’m telling you, your parents are in my hands. With just one word from me, they’re dead! And that little brother of yours... he’s quite adorable, isn’t he?"

Hearing this, the woman’s body shook violently, and her face turned deathly pale. "You... you found my family?!" she exclaimed, a flicker of anger in her voice.

"That’s right. Liu Dong, let her have a listen," Ye Tiannan said flatly.

At his command, Liu Dong quickly nodded, took out his phone, dialed a number, and put it on speaker. "Alright, boys, make some noise for her," Liu Dong said with a smile. The next moment, a cacophony of frantic noises, pleas for mercy, and a woman’s sobs erupted from the phone’s speaker.

Hearing these sounds, the woman’s expression changed drastically. "Dad! Mom! Brother!" she shrieked, trying to lunge forward, but Ye Tiannan’s men held her back.

"So? Are you going to talk? You know very well what will happen to them if you don’t!" Ye Tiannan pressed.

Despair filled the woman’s eyes. "I’ll... I’ll talk," she finally said. "I overheard your entire plan to assassinate Lin Kuang, and I told Han Qiaoqiao about it."

At her words, Ye Tiannan’s face contorted, his eyes blazing with unconcealable rage. He had suspected Chu Zhongtian was behind this but lacked proof. Now, with the woman’s confession, everything was crystal clear.

"Chu Zhongtian... Chu Zhongtian... so it really was you!" Ye Tiannan snarled. "You wanted Lin Kuang and me to destroy each other so you could swoop in and claim the prize? What a brilliant scheme!"

Although he was wary of Chu Zhongtian’s background, he wasn’t truly afraid of him. Since Chu Zhongtian had made a move against him, he resolved not to hold back any longer. Still, he wasn’t foolish enough to confront Chu Zhongtian head-on. If Chu Zhongtian wanted to play games, he would play right along.

"Young Master Ye, what should we do with this woman?" Liu Dong asked, walking over.

"Keep her under watch for now. She might still be useful. Make sure her family behaves. If they step out of line, slaughter them!" Ye Tiannan said flatly, showing no regard for their lives.

"Yes, Young Master Ye." With a wave of his hand, Liu Dong had the woman dragged away.

"Young Master Ye, what’s our next move?" Liu Dong asked.

"Don’t rush things. We’ll wait and see how the situation develops before we act," Ye Tiannan replied. In truth, he didn’t have a good plan. Otherwise, he would have acted already instead of biding his time.

"Understood," Liu Dong replied respectfully.

Lin Kuang and the others were having lunch at the company. The beautiful girls were all in high spirits, relieved that Yashi’s crisis had been averted. As a result, Lin Kuang found himself being playfully teased by a whole group of them, leaving him unable to retort. After all, he was hopelessly outnumbered; his one mouth was no match for a dozen of theirs.

The lively meal soon came to an end, and everyone returned to their afternoon work.

The afternoon seemed to fly by, and soon enough, it was time to clock out. Lin Kuang left the office with Liu Shilin, bidding farewell to the bevy of beauties before they finally departed.

"Lin Kuang, let’s go out for dinner tonight. It’s my treat, to thank you for saving Yashi. You’d better not refuse!" Liu Shilin said playfully as they sat in the car.

"Alright. A dinner for two?" Lin Kuang glanced at her and asked with a grin.

"N-No, of course not! Shiyu is home, we can’t just leave her there all alone," Liu Shilin said, her voice laced with shyness.

Seeing her cute, blushing face, Lin Kuang felt his heart stir. He leaned over and planted a quick kiss on her cheek, making her body tremble slightly as her face turned an even deeper shade of red.

"Off we go," Lin Kuang said with a laugh when Liu Shilin remained silent.

Blushing, Liu Shilin nodded. She was filled with shyness, but even more so with an indescribable joy. It seemed she thoroughly enjoyed this feeling.

Driving home, they arrived in less than half an hour.

The little witch was already home from school. Today, she was unusually quiet, seemingly still affected by yesterday’s setback.

"Hey, little witch, we’re going out for dinner. You in?" Lin Kuang asked, feeling a bit unaccustomed to her quietness.

"Huh? What?" the little witch asked as if waking from a dream, her delicate, doll-like face flushing slightly.

"Are you spaced out, little witch? I said we’re going out to eat and asked if you’re coming," Lin Kuang couldn’t help but tease, noticing her red cheeks.

"You’re the one who’s spaced out! Of course I’m going! Why wouldn’t I? My sister’s paying, not you!" the little witch huffed.

I actually thought this jerk was kind of handsome for a second, but now he’s back to being despicable! the little witch grumbled to herself.

Seeing this, Lin Kuang smiled. "Now that’s the little witch I know. Come on, let’s go eat!"
