Unlimited estates for rural beauty-Chapter 466 Brother Is Generous, But Sister Pays the Silver (2)
Qiqi shook her head from the side and started again, just like their mother, both were miserly hoarders of wealth.
Feng Jiuniang looked at the little girl’s pitiful face and, with a grand gesture, said generously, "Just because of your sweet mouth, little sister, tonight’s lodging and meal expenses are all on me."
Qiqi blinked her peach blossom eyes, gave her sister a sly look, opened her mouth, and silently mouthed the word: "Show-off."
When Yueyue heard it was free, and even the meal costs were waived, her small face immediately gave Feng Jiuniang a generous smile, "Thank you, beautiful sister, Yueyue loves you to death." She hugged Feng Jiuniang’s neck, pressed her rosy lips, and ’mwah’ planted a kiss on her face.
For the first time in nineteen years, Feng Jiuniang had been kissed, and by a pretty porcelain doll at that, which instantly made her heart blossom with joy.
"Jiuniang loves Yueyue and... brother too." Jiuniang looked at the little boy beside her who seemed overly mature for his age, and felt speechless inside.
Feng Jiuniang, somewhat reluctantly, let go of Yueyue and gracefully descended the stairs.
Yueyue and Qiqi, the two little ones, were a handful, now demanding the waiter to prepare a bath with no water, then hungry and asking for food, and then thirsty for water; by the time the waiter was nearly exhausted, Yueyue and Qiqi had finally settled down. After a day full of excitement and a belly full of food and drink, they climbed into bed, covered themselves with a thin blanket, and within moments of lying down, were off to dreamland playing chess with Duke Zhou.
Wan Hun and the other guardian had been on edge all day. Seeing the two young masters asleep, they finally relaxed their taut nerves. Wan Hun nudged his companion, "You sleep first, come and replace me in the middle of the night."
The other guardian nodded, "Okay, then I’ll sleep now." With that, he laid flat on the roof beam, and gradually his breathing became even.
Wan Hun’s sharp eyes scanned everything around, not letting anything potentially harmful to the young masters go unnoticed.
In the wee hours, just as everyone was deep in sleep, two sneaky figures slowly approached the room of Yueyue and Qiqi.
Two men, one skinny and one fat, with faces covered by masks, pressed up against the window. Hearing no movement inside, they wet their fingers and poked a hole through the paper window. One eye scanned the room, and seeing the two children fast asleep, the skinny man signaled his partner with a cleanup gesture. The other man took out a sharp, shiny dagger and slowly inserted it into the door crack, inch by inch moving the door latch. Just when they thought the silver of the two little ones was flying into their hands, someone tapped their shoulder from behind.
The fat man turned his head and glared at the skinny one, whispering, "Why are you tapping me?"
"I didn’t tap you," replied the skinny one, shaking his head.
The fat man gave him a sidelong glance and resumed moving the door latch with the dagger in hand. When his other shoulder was tapped, he sensed something was off, exchanged a glance with the skinny one, and slowly turned around. Before he could see who it was, a sharp pain shot through his neck, and their eyes went dark as they fainted away.
Wan Hun quickly grabbed the two men and flew out of the inn, tossing them into a den of beggars before returning to the young masters’ side.
Unaware of the events outside, the two children in the room woke up early the next day. Wan Hun and his companion, with worn-out expressions, watched their exciting enthusiasm and knew they wouldn’t be returning anytime soon. Seeing them relentlessly enjoying themselves, the guardians felt their nerves spike immediately.
Qiqi and Yueyue played outside, carefree and happy, lost in their enjoyment. Yet, back in the palace, Feng Xuxu was anxious the whole day, unable to sit still.
