Chapter 183: Chapter 183: Wanling Abyss (8)

Feng Xuxu, who had been daydreaming, suddenly heard a voice. She looked around but saw no one; she thought she had misheard and was about to step outside when she remembered, "Who are you?"

Her steps halted as she contemplated going out. She turned back to look at the room again, still seeing no one, she boldly stepped forward and asked, "Hmph, you ask who I am, shouldn’t you be the one telling me who you are first?"

"Ha ha ha, the little girl is quite stubborn." Feng Xuxu only felt a gust of wind by her ear as Xiaojin suddenly dashed out, charging straight at the throat of a figure in black.

The old man in black dodged Xiaojin’s attack and, upon closer inspection, laughed heartily, "I didn’t expect you little girl to possess such a treasure."

An old man with grizzled hair dressed in black, his face covered with wrinkles and a long beard hanging from his chin, Feng Xuxu couldn’t figure out why everyone she met seemed to prefer wearing black.

"Who are you? How did you appear in the Island Cottage?" Feng Xuxu turned the tables and asked.

"That question should be mine. Who are you? What is Xuanyuan Huihui to you?" The old man said, focusing his stare on Feng Xuxu with a tremble in his beard.

"Feng Xuxu. Xuanyuan Huihui is my mother." Without fearing those lifeless eyes, she fixed her gaze on the bearded old man. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"I am the Guardian of the Wanling Abyss." The old man nodded to himself, seeing her as a talent worth nurturing.

"What exactly is Wanling Abyss, and why is it solely loyal to the Holy Maiden?" She wondered if this force was that vast, having heard about Wanling Abyss no less than ten times that day.

"Within Wanling, there are many soulless warriors. They lack souls and are only sustained by the flask inside their bodies, obeying only their master. They do not need food or drink and can live for a hundred years."

Having heard the old man’s words, Feng Xuxu was incredulously wide-eyed, "Soulless warriors? Then why are they only loyal to the Holy Maiden?"

"Because the blood in the Holy Maiden’s body is the antidote to unlock the flask inside them, they are loyal only to the Holy Maiden."

"After all this fuss, it turns out Wanling only houses some soulless warriors. I thought there were some rare treasures!" After a long listen, it turned out they were loyal to the blood inside her body. She shook her head helplessly.

"Hmph, who says Wanling only has soulless warriors?" The old man waited for Feng Xuxu’s response, displeased.

"...Wasn’t it you who said that?"

"Our Wanling is not just about those warriors. Do you really think a powerful clan can be sustained solely by soulless warriors?"

"...How would I know? Why don’t you tell me," Feng Xuxu moved closer, tugging at the old man’s sleeve, her curious eyes blinking as she looked at him.

"Come on, girl, let me tell you about it," The old man pulled Feng Xuxu by the arm and sat down at the medicine-preparing table.

The sun rose from the east to noon, then from noon it stayed until evening. If it weren’t for Jueqing coming to find her, they probably could have talked until the next day.

"Girl, that lad Jueqing has arrived. I must go now. I’ll be waiting for you in the Wanling Abyss. Remember, you must come. They’re not deceiving you." Before he could finish, he had disappeared.

Feng Xuxu shook her head; she had been thoroughly enjoying the conversation.

"Xuxu, Xuxu, are you there?" Jueqing searched desperately around the castle, but no one had seen the young lady. Upon further questioning, they didn’t even know what the young lady looked like. Jueqing was exasperated, recalling that Xuxu had only been at the castle for less than a day.

"Cousin, I’m here," Feng Xuxu came out of the room upon hearing her cousin searching from room to room, she called out to him.

"Xuxu, you made me look so hard for you. Why did you come here?" He wiped the sweat from his forehead and a weight lifted from his heart.

"Big cousin, did you forget something? You’re the one who told me to come here if I had nothing else to do," she gave him a sideways glare, then twisted out the front door.
