Chapter 29: Class: The Primordial Guardian???

I gulped.

I did.

But should I tell them that?

...I don’t know.

For a few seconds, I contemplated.

Hm, how do I go about this?

If I say I didn’t get any dream and therefore I don’t have special powers, how would I explain any supernatural feat I perform in the near future?

Choosing that option feels like I’m shooting myself in the leg.

It’ll hinder my Exp movement. And also hinder me from using the skills I gain from my sign-in system in front of them.

But wait...

Why do I care what they think?

I let out a sigh.

I’ll have to lie.

I waved my arms at them, a small, nervous smile creeping on my lips. "Both of you, calm down."

"Hm?" Hummed Jerry, "What makes you think we’re not?"

I shot a glare at him.

Are you kidding me?!

"Marcus, to answer your question, I did have a strange dream," I stated.

Yeah, I can come up with random excuses whenever I use a future skill or shit.

I’m such a genius.

Marcus’s eyes relaxed. "You did?"

I nodded, "Yes, I did."

"Tell us about it then," Jericho said.

"Ah, okay." I cleared my throat, preparing to throw my lie bomb. "That weird feeling you both described? The one Jericho felt like a snake slithering through his veins? I..." My tone grew grim as I looked downward to enhance the realism of the lie. "I think I felt it too. But it was so subtle that I passed it off as nothing."

Jericho nodded. "Exactly."

Marcus frowned, spouting, "Let him finish."

Yeah, let me cook.

Jericho glared at Marcus, but looked away, and instead focused on me.

"And I had a weird dream. In my dream, I was at a place that I could not describe. Although if I try to describe it, I’ll say the place was infinite."

At this point, I began to visualize what I spoke about. And it felt as if the words that left my mouth were programmed, and I felt as though I couldn’t stop myself from speaking anymore.

In my field of vision, a wide, indescribable place stretched before me.

"The concept of light didn’t exist there, nor did the concept of darkness. And around me, countless... planets stretched out to infinity. They were all globes."

Marcus’s eyes narrowed.

Jericho quietly leaned in, interlocking his fingers.

"All the countless planets revolved around something. That thing was a staff. A gigantic staff. It felt like the staff was planted on the ground of nothingness by a being." I paused, sucking in a large breath as my eyes widened. The vision halted.

What the hell is happening right now?

"Come on. Go on." Said Jerry.

"Oh," I shook my head, erasing the thoughts. "And then," The vision began once more, and I envisioned my words. "I heard a voice call out to me. The voice was strange, yet familiar at the same time. It sounded like... my voice. But more, more, more mature. And just like Jericho’s, it shook me to the core of my bones... Ah, and one more thing. The source of the voice wasn’t invisible."

I raised my neck, staring upward, like I could see what I explained.

"When I traced the source of the voice, I saw a lean, muscular figure, crouched on top of that large staff that all the planets revolved around. His golden eyes gleamed, piercing at me as he stared straight into my soul. A rather mischievous grin stretched on his lips as he lazily rested his chin on his palm. He whispered, ’So it is you, omnia. They say you have no name, yet you inherited my legacy. Well, take it all. You aren’t nameless. You are omnia.’"

My chest rose and fell softly as I finally stopped speaking.

I blinked rapidly, trying to make sure the visions had really stopped.

For a while, both Marcus and Jericho remained silent. They just stared at me.

I looked at Jericho. Then at Marcus. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"Well?" I asked both of them, my breathing still slightly off balance.

"And then you woke up?" Jericho suddenly asked.

I shook my head. "No. And then you woke me up."

"Well," Marcus spoke, "do you feel like you can do something you’ve never done before?"

I shook my head. "No, I don’t feel that way."

Marcus nodded. "Like me, then."

In front of me, the daily sign-in system screen floated.

Judging from the fact that Marcus hadn’t asked me a thousand questions about it already, it was safe to assume that the systems were invisible to others.

~Daily sign-in available. Sign in at the H² subway station of City H, Y or N?~

I can’t sign in now. I’ll do it immediately when we’re done with this conversation.

Just as I was about to speak, the system chimed in with its familiar mechanical voice, brimming with excitement.

[Ding–!]

[Fate has been stirred!]

[The intent of the Primordial Guardian, Olephus’s grand vestige, has rearranged a plot in the interweaving of the grand tapestry of fate.]

I narrowed my eyes.

This again?

[The universe stares down at Mortal {Dustin} in amusement.]

[Young Guardian, from the records of your own words and the approval of your predecessor’s vestige, you have awakened your class.]

My eyes widened.

What the fuck??

My class?

"Is something wrong, Duz?" Jericho asked, sensing my sudden daze.

"Uh.." I waved at him. "No, nothing’s wrong."

"What are you staring at?" Marcus asked.

I ignored him.

[Class: The Primordial Guardian.]

[The declaration made in your soul sea radiates to the consciousness of the amused universe.]

[You have gained a true name.]

[Omnia.]

[’Stand tall, new primordial guardian, and grow into the power of your predecessor. You have a debt to pay~’ –The universe.]

I rolled my eyes.

That’s what this is all about?

Great.

I’m now a primordial guardian with a primordial debt to pay.

A debt that isn’t even mine!

Tch.

But I do wonder what this debt is.

Do gods owe money?

I waved the system screen off.

Whatever it is, I’m sure I’ll discover it as I grow stronger.

For now...

I cleared my throat.

"Jericho," I gazed at Jerry. "The answer to your question is rather simple."

Jerry narrowed his eyes. Marcus crouched, leaning closer.

"What I’d do with power?" I smirked. "At first, I only considered survival. To be able to survive in a world plagued by monsters. But now, though," I raised my palm, clenching it. "I want far more than that."

"I want to see how far I can climb. I want to know what it feels like to be at the top of something for the first time in my life. What I’d do with power? I’ll use it for myself. I’ll survive, grow stronger, and keep on growing stronger. I’ll become someone to whom the concept of weakness no longer applies. I’ll become someone who no longer hides or cowers in the face of danger. And..." My voice dropped low.

I’ll find Margie.

A bittersweet smile surfaced on my lips as I remembered her sweet, innocent smile in my dreams.

How did that sweet child grow up to become that rebellio–

Eh, I probably shouldn’t judge her. I mean, I’m no better, haha.

As I said this, Jericho’s face lightened, and a faint smile brushed his lips.

Marcus leaned back, finally sitting down on the ground as he sighed in resignation.
