Union Of Enemies-Chapter 2
Chapter 2
Translated by CatMeme6
"Dr. Zhen." The pretty little nurse stood by the door, fluttering her eyelashes that were coated with numerous layers of mascara with each strand standing upright like the legs of flies. "Old Mr. Wang came for his check-up and he said he must see you."
The person sitting at the desk raised his head from the medical records he was reading.
A pair of gold-wire-frame Plano glasses* was sitting on his high nose and his cold grave expression showed some caution. The big white coat worn on his body was not like other people that were worn loosely and casually and it suited his refined and steady temperament. His slender fingers were holding the medical records. Sunlight shone through the window from one side of the desk and the golden rays spread out enveloping him.
(Plano glasses are non-prescription glasses with no corrective functions and are used for blocking sand, wind and prevent UV rays from affecting eyes.)
"Okay." He nodded slightly and the sunlight flashed across his lens. "I will be there."
His voice sounded harmonious and gentle just like the sunlight that was shining through the blinds.......light and warm.
The little nurse hugged the medical record folder in her arms and foolishly looked in admiration at the doctor who had stood up.
He raised his head and saw the nurse still standing by the door. He lifted his eyebrows and asked. "Is there anything else?"
"Er......." The pretty face turned red. "I......I just want to ask Dr. Zhen whether you would like to eat something. Old Mr. Wang had brought a lot of gifts. Should I get you some?"
A gentle smile appeared on his lips and he nodded slightly. "Alright.....then I've to trouble you."
The little nurse quickly turned around and fled. The person standing beside the desk took off his Plano glasses and casually threw them on the table. His steady temperament was suddenly overshadowed by a pair of beautiful eyes and his attractive peach blossom eyes shone as he smiled.
A finger pressed down on a louver of the window blinds and he cast his gaze to the opposite side of the street. The good location on the 5th Floor enabled him to easily check the street scene across the street. There was the café with the best environment in the whole city, the most elegant Western restaurant and also........the city's famous ladies photo studio.
The ambulance stopped at the door of the photo studio and after a while, the ambulance with its siren wailing stopped at the door of his hospital's entrance. The smile on his lips slackened as he pondered with narrowed eyes. 𝗳𝗿𝐞ℯ𝙬𝗲𝗯n𝗼νel.𝒄𝑜𝘮
He wondered which unfortunate guy had the misfortune to meet with such viciousness.
He looked at the clock on the wall. The time is still early and he wondered how long was that person going to restrain herself? He could secretly guess. Just yesterday, he received a call from his mother and she told him that Auntie from Jia Family will be going to visit the two of them. It is afraid that fiery explosive barrel would appear in his office today.
His fingers hooked up his Plano glasses on the table and he twirled it around his fingers. A smile slowly spread on his face and that expression stunned the little nurse who had returned holding a plate with a piece of cake.
"Dr......Dr. Zhen......." The little nurse was dangerously biting her tongue and watched with disbelief
The glasses were put back on the bridge of his nose. The steady and calm doctor had returned. He took the cake from the nurse's hand and smiled politely. "I'll eat this later. I've to go and see Old Mr. Wang."
A faint cologne scent lingered in the air as he walked passed the little nurse and in the blink of an eye, the tall figure had left the room. The dazed little nurse fluttered her fly-legs eyelashes as she was swept into dizziness.
Just now, that smile, that expression......was that really Dr. Zhen? That courteous and well-mannered Dr. Zhen who always had a serious face?
She must be mistaken.......certainly she must be mistaken.
Zhen Lang walked into the rehabilitation room and went straight to the old man who was having a check-up. "Old Mr. Wang, you are back for a follow-up check. Did you feel any discomfort recently?"
"I'm fine, I feel very good." The old man waved his arm and smiled. "It is no wonder you are regarded as one of the best heart surgeons in the country. I was not wrong in choosing you and I also heard that during the operation, there was an incident. If it was not for you who had remained calm, I'm afraid this old life would have ended. For someone so young to have such expertise, you're really amazing......really amazing........"
Zhen Lang just smiled. "The nurses had exaggerated. There is nothing great about that."
The old man looked at Zhen Lang with appreciation in his eyes. "Good! You are not arrogant or overbearing and have patience. At my age, no one dares to do it even if I'm willing to pay a lot of money but you dare."
Without any haughtiness or conceit, Zhen Lang said that he was just fulfilling the duties of a doctor.
Old Mr. Wang patted the woman who was holding his arm and said. "Shao Guan, this is Dr. Zhen. If it was not for him, your grandfather would not be able to wait for you to come back and accompany me."
Wang Shao Guan stomped her feet and like a pampered child, she snuggled up to Old Mr. Wang. "Grandpa, don't talk nonsense! You will have a long life and live up to the age of 120."
Old Mr. Wang laughed. "Dr. Zhen, don't laugh at us. My granddaughter just came back from abroad. She had not seen me for a long time, so that's why she so clingy."
"I won't." Zhen Lang's finger thumbed through each and every item shown on the cardiac monitor as he answered.
"Dr. Zhen......" Wang Shao Guan came up him. "How is my Grandpa's follow-up check?"
Zhen Lang raised his head. The woman was holding a small bag with both her hands as she stood in front of him with a lovely smile. Her hair was hanging down loosely and she looked like a delicate doll.
He gave her only a brief glance before he continued to bow his head. "Good, but Old Mr. Wang must not be tired out. It is best for him to rest in a serene environment with clean fresh air to recuperate."
Old Mr. Wang nodded with a smile. Wang Shao Guan was about to say something when a sudden rude shout sounded outside the door. In the mix of low voices, a shout was heard. "That slut......I will not let her go scot-free!" In the midst of cursing, a man's loud shout could be heard. "Where are the doctors?! Why are the doctors not here yet?! You think I don't have money to pay?!"
Zhen Lang excused himself and went out.
The man lying on the single bed had one hand over his chest while he screamed loudly. The nurses were all so scared that they stood far away to watch him. He took a deep breath and was prepared to scream louder when next to him, a hand reached over and firmly pressed down on his chest.......the source of his pain.
"Wa!" A huge fist shot out and was lightly deflected aside. A light of evil flashed across the gold-wire-frame glasses and the eyes behind the lens looked at him coldly.
"What are you doing?!" The man instantly sat upright. "My bones have snapped because you pressed on it. Are you looking for a fight?"
Even if he could not beat that violent woman, he should not have any problem with this weak scholar in front of him.
"If your ribs have snapped, the broken bones most likely have lodged into your lungs. Then you will not be able to survive for more than half an hour. If a broken bone had pierced into an artery, you will not survive for more than 15 minutes. If a broken bone had pierced into your heart, you will not survive for more than a minute." Zhen Lang raised his wrist and stared at his wristwatch. "If you want to die, you can move a bit more. I can keep time for you."
The huge fist stopped in mid-air. The man froze like a wood-carved figurine with his face turning from red to green, then from green to purple and then finally to white. "I......I......."
"One more thing......." The handsome lips curved into a beautiful arc. "I am a doctor. If you get rid of me, it means you are refusing treatment. So, the hospital will not be responsible for any delay in treating you. Remember to call your family and tell them first. This is to save them the trouble of fighting a lost lawsuit in future."
The fist that had frozen in mid-air became stiff and had lost the ability to withdraw. "I......what should I do now?"
A fine light flashed behind the lens. "According to the clinical symptoms based on the shouts that you had just made, you may have a fractured rib but this requires further examination."
The crude face was nearly in tears with a twisted and distorted expression. "What......what examination?"
"This is up to you." He looked at the raised fist with a serious face. "If you have a fracture on your 1st or 2nd rib, it is connected to the clavicle and it is possible to cause a scapula fracture. It is also connected to the chest, internal organs, and large blood vessels. It may also cause damage to the bronchial tube or perhaps rupture other organs and possibly cause heart contusion. This may also result in damage to the brains. If it is a fracture of the lower chest ribs, it is possible to cause damage to intra-abdominal organs especially the liver, spleen and also cause a kidney rupture. You must take care as this may also cause spinal and pelvic fractures. Don't move. You must be careful, in case the fractured bone pierces anywhere in your body because of your movements." 𝒇r𝙚𝙚𝓌𝙚𝑏𝗻𝑜𝘷𝗲𝘭.c૦𝑚
"You......don't talk anymore......." The fist that was raised in mid-air was shaking uncontrollably. "I will check......I will take the full examination. You can write out the checklist."
"You can go for an X-ray examination, then do a brain CT scan, B-mode, magnetic resonance, just in case......and also do a blood test."
The weather in April was neither too hot nor too cold but someone wearing a single layer of clothes was soaking wet. Beads of sweat slid down his face and it was white as paper without a drop of blood. "Why do I have to do a blood test?"
"I'm afraid that you may already have internal bleeding. In case you need a surgery, there will not be enough time to do an urgent blood test. So, it is better for you to do one now so that we can save your life quickly."
"Alright, I will do it......."
Someone who was sweating profusely was quickly pushed away in a wheelchair by the nurse. He was still holding up his fist and did not dare to put it down. When the wheelchair was pushed into the elevator, a little boy standing at the side who was sucking his thumb tugged at his mother's clothes. The sweet voice said. "Mom, look! Superman......."
After someone went through all the tests as listed down in the examination checklist and he had confirmed that he will not die any time soon, he was finally able to put down his stiff and numb arm. While he was straightening his wet clothes, he asked. "Nurse......I want to ask you a question. Is there a doctor by the name of Zhen Lang in your hospital?"
"Dr. Zhen?" The nurse's fly-legs eyelashes fluttered quickly. "Are you referring to the doctor who issued you the examination checklist?"
"The first doctor?" The man pulled out the stack of checklists in his hands. In the 'To check column', he finally found the two flamboyant characters of the doctor's name. Silently, he pulled out his wallet which had grown considerably thinner. He gently sniffed and sighed. "If the two of them join forces, one to hit and the other to heal, then they are even darker than Huang Shiren* for stealing money......."
(Huang Shiren is a fictional character who is a villain in the classic story of 'White-haired Girl'. He is a feudal landlord who schemes and squeezes money out of the poor.)
At this moment, the person who is darker than Huang Shiren is standing near the window in his office with a smile.
Across the street, a strong and healthy figure barged out of a door and cut across the traffic flow with a few strides. Fingers grabbed the fence for support, a beautiful leap, a perfect landing and with a few steps the figure walked straight through the hospital entrance and disappeared.
"Dr. Zhen!" Two knocks were heard on the door.
With exquisite makeup, her smile reflected her upbringing and her long loose hair enhanced her flirtatious expression.
From top to bottom, she was clad in branded clothing and at this moment, Wang Shao Guan looked mature. "My Grandpa will be holding a dinner party at home in two days to celebrate his recovery. I hope Dr. Zhen will be able to attend." She spoke politely and carefully hid the appreciation in her eyes as she waited for his response.
She saw his handsome lips curved into a slight smile and then gradually spread.
She knew that no one would refuse to seek connections to their powerful family and also no one could refuse her invitation.
But before she could get an answer from Zhen Lang, a strong force suddenly burst from behind her. She was hit and pinned flat by the door. The two mounds in front of her chest immediately experienced the compression process from a meat pack to a flat cake.
"Hey!" The hoarse voice was discourteous. A palm slammed on the desk and all the items on the desktop danced in rhythm. "Tonight, are you coming to my place or am I going to yours?!"
The Plano glasses were given a push and his voice said leisurely. "My apartment is bigger, come to my apartment."
"Good!" Jia Shao clenched her fists and her eyes were wide and bright. When she looked back, she saw a little nurse squeezed near the door and there was also a poor woman who was partially visible behind the door. Suddenly, a sly smile appeared on her lips. She held her fingers to her lips and threw a flying kiss at Zhen Lang. "Tonight, clean your ass nicely and wait for me!"
The collective sounds of sucking breaths at the door could be heard in the room. The smile on Zhen Lang's face remained unchanged. "Alright! Your voice is very sexy today. It should sound good when you scream later."
This time, a stronger sound of sucking breaths was clearly heard again. Jia Shao threw a flying kiss at the two women and her unhappiness evaporated in a blink of an eye. The depression that she had felt the whole day was completely lifted at this very moment.
