Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 322: REVENGEN (2)
"The media found them first," Pete said. His voice was slightly trembling because he was holding back his rage. "They left Arthur and Aubrey’s bodies on the front gates of the Lozen family’s house.
In the public’s eyes, the Lozens were only a usual business family. But their name had been widely known to the public because of the robbery that went wrong a year ago and caused the death of Elise Lozen, Arthur Lozen’s wife.
And now, with this tragedy happening once more, speculation about the events had gone out of control.
"We need to kill those scumbags from the Barlowes!" Payton was enraged. For him, Arthur was not only his boss but also a father figure.
The three of them had a rough time on the street when they were young, and it was Arthur who had taken them under his wing. They had so much respect for Arthur and were loyal to the bone; most of Lozen’s men shared this loyalty.
Therefore, it was understandable that they were infuriated, especially with the way Arthur and Aubrey were killed and their bodies were left on the street.
"River, do something! You have returned! Give us your order, and we will do it! You have to avenge your father and sister!" Paxton roared again, followed by the other men.
They demanded that River take the lead, since she was the last Lozen. She would be the perfect person who would carry the revenge.
Most of them had worked together with River in one way or another; thus, they used to follow her lead.
"We will discuss this with Rye and Desgar. We will let all of you know what we are going to do," Ranon said, taking the initiative to divert their attention from River.
They just arrived when all of the Lozen’s men surrounded them and demanded revenge on the Barlowes.
Meanwhile, River was not in her right mind. She had mixed feelings about the death of her father and sister. She didn’t even play any music on the way here and had been very quiet.
Ranon didn’t ask much; he gave her space to process her feelings.
"You are not from the Lozens; don’t get involved in our family’s business," Paxton said sharply. He didn’t want Ranon to influence River’s decision. He didn’t know how close the two of them were, but they appeared to be always together ever since River returned.
"You stay on my property and have been using my resources, so I am already involved," Ranon replied darkly, which made Paxton shut his mouth. This man from the Leightons could be very scary. "All of you will wait here for the decision."
None of them said anything, nor did they try to stop Ranon and River again.
And after saying that, Ranon took River into the house, where Rye and Desgar had been waiting for them on the third floor.
However, River heard Bryer’s voice.
"Where is he?" River asked.
"Bryer has been crying, asking for his mother. He is with my wife," Rye said. "I call her here because I don’t know what to do."
This house was full of men. Despite the presence of a few women among the Lozens’ men, they had no experience with young children.
"I will see him first," River said in a small voice, and they agreed. Bryer was still her nephew, despite how bad her relationship with Aubrey was.
With that, River went to the room that Bryer used to occupy with his mother. The same room where Aubrey had locked Bryer, the first time she met with River, begging her to spare her son.
Even a shitty person could be a loving mother.
That word resonated with River as well; in a way, River could understand Aubrey’s desperate attempt to save her son. She had a daughter whom she would be willing to give her life for.
From behind the closed door, River heard Bryer’s cry and Biel’s soothing voice, trying to calm him down.
Slowly, she entered the room and found Bryer had a cast on her right hand. Rye said on the phone that he fell from a moving car when the ambush happened.
Aubrey used herself as bait so Rye could take Bryer away, since she knew it was her that Arlo wanted. It worked, and although her son survived, now she was dead.
"River?" Biel stood up when she saw River enter the room. "Oh, my God! I didn’t believe it until I saw you now that you are still alive!" Biel went to hug River tightly.
Rye had been like an uncle for River as she grew up. Therefore, it was natural for her to know his wife as well.
"I am glad you are fine." Biel kissed River on the cheek. She was as old as Rye, which made her the same age as Arthur, but she still didn’t have grey hair. Her soft gaze made River smile.
"Thank you, Biel, but can I have a moment with Bryer?" River asked.
"Sure, sure. Of course. Poor child. He lost his mother in such a tragic way," Biel said in a small voice so Bryer wouldn’t hear her.
And after that, Biel left River alone in the room with the little boy.
"Bryer," River called him, and the little boy lifted his head to look at her. He cried even harder.
"I want my Mama! Waa..."
Bryer was only a few months older than Ashlyn. He was born a month before Aubrey’s due date, which left him with some complications. That was what River learned.
She came over and hugged him. "It’s okay. It’s okay..."

"Arthur and Aubrey died?" Rafael raised his brows at the news. He had been very upset because he couldn’t find River, and now he learned this news. "No, I don’t think that’s River’s doing. Attracting public attention is not her style."
Rafael was talking to himself while his men were standing in front of him, waiting for his order.
"Arlo..." His eyes narrowed in acknowledgment. "Did he know River is still alive?"
Rafael had learned that River now lived with Ranon Leighton, which made it difficult for him to approach her, especially after the death of his wife. Ranon had strengthened the security around his apartment.
And there was this one big question: why did River come to Ranon Leighton? And why did he accept her readily? Rafael knew how dedicated Ranon was to his wife, but how could he accept someone new that fast?
Was River that good at seducing someone? Rafael doubted that...
It was still a mystery for him.
"Find out when they will hold the funeral," Rafael ordered his man. He was going to crash it, since he was sure he wouldn’t get the invitation.

"No," Ranon said sternly, rejecting the idea that River gave to them.
River knew that Ranon wouldn’t be on board, but she wouldn’t back down and change her mind either. "This is the easiest and the fastest way to get them." River crossed her arms defensively.
"Still, no." If it were not for River, he would have suggested the idea himself. However, due to the recent events, he determined not to reveal her existence for any reason; moreover, it could endanger her life once more.
Damn, she literally had died more than once. Did she think she was invincible?! Ranon was so angry.
"It has been decided," River said stubbornly.
"I will tie you up to the bed if that’s what it takes to stop you," Ranon said sternly and firmly.
Meanwhile, Rye and Desgar glanced back and forth between the two; somehow, they felt as if they were interrupting an argument between spouses.
Knowing River, Rye expected River to be enraged with the way Ranon spoke to her, especially with that indecent threat. But when he looked at her, she simply looked pissed.
Just now, River suggested that she would make a public appearance to speak on behalf of her family. There was nothing important that she needed to say, but her presence was important. All this time, the people around the Lozens, the Barlowes, and the McKennas learned that she was dead.
However, the public appearance was the easiest way for River to announce that she was still alive. Sooner or later, the news would reach Arlo, and then he would be the one who came to her instead of them searching for him.
Surprisingly, he was good at hiding.
"Mr. Leighton, you are not going to tie me to bed. Not when I am the one who would do that to you," River retorted. She threw a sharp glare at him.
Hearing that, Ranon smirked. He leaned over, his eyes filled with anger as he glared back at River. "I am looking forward to it," he said sinisterly.
This was the first time the two of them were not on the same page and strongly had different opinions.
On the other hand, Desgar and Rye felt something was not right, but they couldn’t say what it was. And as the conversation felt off, Rye tried to get them back on track.
"My man had informed me that we can see their bodies now."
"Great." River nodded. She stood up. "Call the reporter that you can trust, and leak the information that I will be in the Central Hospital to look for my father and sister. I want them to capture me before I enter the hospital."
"Got it," Rye said. He then stood up to do what River told him.
Desgar then excused himself too because he could feel the tension, leaving the two of them alone.
