Chapter 311: Chapter 311: Love Triangle

"I didn’t mean to do it," Fiona Dunn burst into tears.

"You didn’t mean to, but it’s already happened. Is there any point in saying that now?" Rosalie Quinn wasn’t sure what to say to Fiona. What happened yesterday was indeed unintentional, and she hadn’t expected any consequences, but now that it’s happened, what’s the point of talking about it?

Fiona fell silent, knowing she had done wrong and dared not explain further.

Some things are wrong, even if they’re unintentional.

Fortunately, Seraphina Sinclair wasn’t too emotional this time. Having gone through so much, though saddened, she understood that some things can’t be forced.

Since that child had no fate to come into this world, it was her destiny.

The miscarriage was no small matter for Seraphina. The child was six months old. A sudden miscarriage was extremely harmful to her body, and her condition now was no different from a postpartum woman, even worse.

Mere exposure to wind made her cough continuously and even caused headaches.

It was autumn already, and the weather would only get colder, posing a problem if she didn’t recover from her month of confinement soon.

Originally, under Quentin Jennings’ instigation, Desmond Fairchild planned to use the self-harm ruse, but instead, Seraphina was bedridden.

One morning, Seraphina had just woken up and saw Desmond Fairchild sitting by the bed, peeling fruit.

She rubbed her eyes and slowly sat up, "Why are you here?"

"Can’t I be here?" Desmond handed her the peeled pear, a trace of gentleness in his narrow eyes.

Seraphina did not reach out to take it, merely glanced at him indifferently, and only after a long while did she reply, "No need, Chloe will bring me breakfast."

Desmond retracted his hand, silently making a note of Chloe Irving.

Even his own subordinates had more face with Seraphina than he did; as the boss, he truly wasn’t doing well.

"I can cook too. I’ll prepare lunch..."

"Chloe will do it for me."

"Then for dinner, I’ll..."

"Don’t you have anything else to do? Chloe will arrange it, no need to worry."

No matter what Desmond said, Seraphina could always use Chloe to counter him.

Desmond was left speechless, watching helplessly as Seraphina ate the meal Chloe brought her, sitting to the side with a sullen face.

Chloe stood by Seraphina’s bed, cheerfully introducing, "Madam, this is red date and barley porridge that I made especially, along with goji chicken soup, stir-fried pig liver, and cilantro beef—great for nourishing blood. Please try them."

"Alright." Seraphina smiled slightly.

The two laughed and chatted, making Desmond seem more like an outsider.

After Chloe helped Seraphina finish breakfast, Desmond called her with a dark face from the door, "You, come outside."

"What is it, Master Fairchild?" Having been with Seraphina for so long, Chloe wasn’t as respectful to Desmond as before.

"Get out!" Desmond’s displeasure showed in his slightly raised voice.

Even as bold as Chloe was, she sensed how displeased Desmond was. She quickly put down the fruit she hadn’t finished peeling and followed him out.

Standing by the staircase, Chloe hung her head, not daring to meet Desmond’s eyes.

Desmond looked down at her from above, his tone unfriendly, "You and the madam have a good relationship?"

Chloe dared not conceal anything, answering truthfully, "The madam is kind-hearted and treats me fairly well."

"Is that so?" Desmond scoffed.

"Master Fairchild, have I done something wrong that has upset you? Please tell me, and I’ll correct it immediately." Chloe knew Desmond’s nature well, and being called out alone meant she must have done something wrong.

Desmond crossed his arms, leaning against the white wall. His gaze swept over Chloe’s face. He wanted to lash out but seemed to calm down as a thought came to him.

His eyes flickered with calculations, "Come closer."

Chloe immediately leaned in.

Desmond whispered something to her, and upon understanding, she shook her head quickly, "Master Fairchild, it won’t work. If the madam finds out, I’ll be in big trouble."

"Heaven knows, earth knows, you know, I know. If you don’t say, how will she know?" Desmond looked at her unchallengeably, "Do as I say."

Having no alternative, Chloe could only grit her teeth and agree, "I’ll try my best to manage this, but if anything goes wrong, I hope Master Fairchild won’t blame me."

Desmond didn’t reply, his profound gaze resting on her, making her immediately apologize, "I’m sorry, I overstepped. If I fail, I’ll accept any punishment."

She had forgotten again, Desmond was no Seraphina, and she dared to bargain with him—was she courting death?

"Glad you understand." Desmond’s deep voice carried a heavy oppression.

By noon.

Chloe brought hot soups and dishes to care for Seraphina, introducing the dishes as usual, "Madam, here’s the clear-stewed short ribs, red-braised pig trotters, lotus leaf chicken, and white fungus lotus seed soup."

"Why is it all meat?" Seraphina wasn’t picky about food, just curious as the meal lacked vegetables and looked slightly greasy.

"There is, here’s some stir-fried cabbage." With that, Chloe took out the cabbage from the thermal box, smiling brightly at Seraphina, "I spent quite a bit of time on today’s dishes. Please enjoy them, madam."

Seraphina gave her a look of approval, "You’re thoughtful."

Upon tasting the dishes, Seraphina’s expression momentarily froze.

The taste wasn’t much different from Chloe’s usual cooking, but she could detect a subtle difference.

Particularly, the red-braised pig trotters tasted exactly like the red-braised ribs Desmond had once made for her.

As she ate, Seraphina suddenly remarked to Chloe, "Is there something missing in today’s stir-fry? The taste is a bit different from yesterday’s."

"Really?" Chloe laughed awkwardly, not daring to say more.

"It’s nothing." Seraphina didn’t pursue the matter further.

In the afternoon, Rosalie brought Jude to see Seraphina, and seeing her in relatively good health and not as despondent as before, they felt somewhat relieved.

Seraphina’s hospitalization couldn’t be concealed from the media. Photos of Desmond and Keith Hughes outside the operating room were captured, sparking widespread speculation about whether Desmond and Seraphina had reconciled.

Keith’s identity only fueled imaginations of a love triangle.

In truth, they weren’t wrong; the three were indeed in a love triangle.

However, Seraphina was unaware of Keith’s feelings. Upon learning their situation made the news, she planned to clear things up once she was better.

Keith, on the other hand, was eager for the news to become even hotter, even fueling the flames by leaking photos of his time with Seraphina on Diamond Island, solidifying the rumors of their ambiguous relationship.

He believed that pursuing someone meant using any means, and this little trick was nothing.
