Chapter 38: Interrogation

A suffocating silence descended with no one speaking.

Lukas’s gaze didn’t flinch, making even eye contact with the leader of the group.

The next moment he simply nodded his head. "Ask away. What do you want to know? I will answer to the best of my abilities."

Hearing Lukas’s words, the young man signalled. Immediately the guards took away the weapons aimed at his head.

Watching this scene, Lukas let out a sigh of relief internally.

Thankfully he wasn’t in immediate danger. His mind flashed with countless thoughts, thinking of all sorts of possibilities to get out of the situation.

But no matter how much he thought, he could find no way out of this.

After all, it was a fact that he had killed Gordon. There were witnesses as well. But now that he was caught by authorities and being questioned, did he regret his decision? Absolutely not. Given the chance, he would do the same again—this time even faster than before.

Of course, even though he was in the wrong, there was no way he was going to admit it. In the end, Gordon deserved it.

While he was lost in thought, the young knight leader finally asked, his eyes glowing like two sharp swords etching directly into Lukas’s heart to discern the truth:

"Did you kill Awakener Gordon?"

This question had barely registered in Lukas’s mind when his lips moved on their own and the response he had already thought of left his mouth.

"Just take a look at my cultivation. Do you really think..."

The tone of Lukas’s answer was exasperating, as if he couldn’t believe he was being asked such an absurd question.

Maybe it was this tone, or something else, but one knight came forward, pressing his spear close to Lukas’s neck. "Don’t speak unnecessary words! Just answer what the leader Sebastian asks you!"

Before the knight could continue threatening him, the young leader Sebastian raised his hand. Immediately the knight backed off.

Then Sebastian turned to Lukas and said, "Continue."

Pretending to take no offense at the sudden rude interruption from the knight, Lukas continued exactly where he had stopped.

He pointed a finger at himself and spoke while dragging every word, his voice rising in pitch:

"Just look at my cultivation. Do you really think I can do anything to someone like Gordon? Forget about killing him—even if he sat there completely still, I might not even be able to scratch his cheek."

"Come on, gentlemen. You’ve got a brain—use it."

"Watch your mouth, punk! Do you even know who you are talking to? The youngest squad commander of the Roaring Dragon Guild!"

The same knight who had interrupted Lukas before furiously stepped up again. Lukas, reading the situation, casually took a look at the knight, simply snorting while thinking to himself—this moron seems really eager to kiss Sebastian’s shiny backside.

However, it would be a big fat lie if he said he wasn’t surprised....Youngest squad commander? Lukas’s thoughts stirred slightly. Even though he wasn’t paying attention to the inner workings of the Roaring Dragon Guild, there were rumors floating around that all the squad commanders of the Roaring Dragon Guild were Blood Transfusion Realm awakeners.

Blood Transfusion Realm—a realm that only one or two people out of thousands of awakeners ever reached.

Lukas couldn’t even imagine just how hard that was.

Although some might say his response was overly loud and arrogant, this was the only way he could think of to get out of the situation.

On the other hand, the sickly-looking girl’s eyes widened in disbelief. She could not believe how someone could lie with such a straight face.

"Officer, don’t believe him! He is lying...!"

"Silence, no one is allowed to interfere in the trial. Whether he is speaking the truth or not is for us to decide."

Sebastian’s voice thundered like lightning on a clear day.

After saying those words, his indifferent gaze turned to Lukas.

"What you say makes sense, but before making a final decision... use your talent on me."

Hearing those words, Lukas internally sighed. It seemed there was indeed hope of talking his way out of this situation. Thankfully he could control the efficiency of his passive talents, otherwise there would be no option other than to use his two hands.

Without wasting time, he fully unleashed Gravity Pressure, fine-tuning the effect to make it only ten percent effective.

Immediately, all the people present in the surroundings felt as if invisible weights had been placed on their shoulders—but that was it. Other than a faint increase in pressure, they felt nothing.

After another breath of time, Lukas completely made the effect of Gravity Pressure disappear and took rapid deep breaths like a dog huffing and puffing, as if he had just run a ten-kilometer marathon.

Sebastian watched his actions with a strange look flashing in his eyes for a very brief moment. Then his expression returned to normal.

"Mr. Lukas, forgive us for the disturbance. You are completely innocent. There is no way someone with your strength could ever do anything to harm someone like Gordon."

Lukas didn’t know why, but he felt slightly stung when he heard those words.

What do you mean, someone with my strength?

But he simply nodded his head and said, "No worries. Cooperating with the authorities is something that all of us must do."

At his words, Sebastian simply nodded and turned to the sickly girl standing shell-shocked a few feet away, calmly saying:

"And you, Ms...please—don’t go around throwing false allegations. This time I am letting you off with a warning. But if such things were to happen again... hmm."

Lukas watched this exchange, feeling slightly strange. For some reason, he had a feeling there was something fishy about the way Sebastian was behaving.

While Lukas was lost in thought, Sebastian led the knight squad away.

After that, Lukas also didn’t waste any time and simply started moving. At first he had wanted to head to the hotel to rest and wait for the next wave to start, but after this encounter his plan had to change.

He should take advantage of this short window of peace to farm strength.
