Undead Beast Master: Living Solely for My Desires-Chapter 334: Two Against One
It didn't take long for Zaroth to spot the approaching enemies, they were five in number but what caught his attention was that they all felt very powerful even from a great distance.
"Are they members of the enemy council?" he questioned, tightening the grip on his odachi. He might have defeated one of their members but he wasn't foolish enough to think he would be able to take half of them at the same time.
Alas, it seems that he didn't really have much choice. As soon as he gazed at them, they were able to sense that they were being watched. Without any kind of hesitation, all of them shot forward with dazing speed towards the town.
'Well, seeing how they are rushing towards us, it is pretty obvious that they are looking for a fight.' Zaroth mused, moving his head towards Eldros.
"You ready?" he asked, his voice calm and collected despite the approaching danger.
Eldros simply nodded as he unsheathed his two greatswords from his back and got ready for a fight.
Seeing that the man was ready to fight with no hesitation on his face made Zaroth grin in happiness. His slave was indeed incredibly competent.
His mood didn't stay good for a long time as he gazed at Luna. Usually in these kinds of situations, he would make her get away from him, assume her form, and then make an official appearance, still acting as if the dragon was simply coming to aid from far away and wasn't being summoned.
But because these people that were about to attack the city had almost halved the distance in just a few seconds, it was obvious the plan wasn't going to work now.
'Well, it was a matter of time until they learned that I am able to summon Mythical beasts. The consequences of the world learning that fact will be dealt with at a later date,' he thought as he nodded at Luna.
Receiving her master's command, Her body shifted as she assumed her dragon form.
Now that they were ready for battle, Zaroth and Eldros ran up ahead while Luna took to the skies.
Zaroth's eyes narrowed briefly in surprise. A dragon had appeared before the enemy, yet they didn't falter or even slow their pace.
"These guys sure are professionals," he muttered as his eyes shined menacing green.
Twenty seconds was all the time needed for the first enemy to reach him.
From his point of view, it was a tall soldier clad in thick ice holding a rapier in their hand. They not only were able to use the power of ice but it was to a level he had never seen before, as they were able to freeze the ground beneath their feet, giving them the ability to slide on the surface of the earth without even using their leg muscles at all.
This was Silver, but he wasn't even able to determine the gender of his opponent due to the ice helmet her face was hidden in.
'Not that it matters,' he thought as his hands moved with deadly speed, aiming to slash at Silver.
However, she moved so fast that his eyes were having trouble following her movements.
With a simple tap with her rapier, she was able to redirect his strike just ever so slightly that it would miss her by a hair's breadth. She wasn't done, however, as she arched her body forward and struck, aiming for the heart from the get-go.
Zaroth's eyes narrowed. This was the first time he was fighting somebody that appeared to be faster than himself! Not to mention the way she was able to move her body in short bursts of power reminded him of the way he had learned to fight—calm and graceful like water.
But her style was clearly more refined, having more experience when it came to fights such as this.
'It would have been bad if I didn't counter you perfectly,' he thought smugly as he let out several fireballs in quick succession, at the same time lifting his mask just slightly upwards, he shot out fire breath as well.
These attacks weren't like before, now with his new skill Fire Control, they were at least two times more deadly than before. Their range of attack was wider and the temperature was hotter. Not to mention that he was able to subtly move them, making it a guaranteed hit from close range!
Silver cursed under her breath , being forced to take a step back. Her ice was so cold, leading her to believe that not even fire was able to melt it. Yet once her eyes landed on Zaroth's attacks, she knew it was dangerous.
"What's wrong? You got so close only to pull away!" he taunted, hoping to get some kind of reaction.
"Confidence can burn out quickly," she shot back coolly. "But it looks like you're about to be the one caught off guard."
By the voice behind the helmet, Zaroth was able to faintly tell that this was a woman—not that he had any time to register that discovery as he saw a shadow moving to his blind spot.
"…?!"
Listening to his instincts, he turned, facing the shadow only to see a man even shorter than him appearing, bearing his scythe ready to behead him.
"Crap!" Zaroth wasn't able to hide his surprise. When did this man manage to sneak up on him?! Not to mention that he came out of shadow! This was the same skill Nightshade was able to use!
Tensing his muscles to the limit, he raised his odachi in a defensive stance. Once the two weapons collided, Zaroth's eyes opened in horror. This was the first time he had fought against a person using a scythe. As such, he was surprised when he blocked the attack only to see the blade still going for his head.
'Damn it, this is the advantage of a curved blade!' he thought, being forced to move his head to avoid decapitation. He was so momentarily impressed that the thought of him starting to learn how to use a scythe briefly crossed his mind. But that was only going to happen if he survived today's battle. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
A sharp pain resonated from his ribs as at that moment, Silver had kicked him with all of the might she was able to muster, sending him flying a couple of feet to the side.
"Two-on-one, huh?" Zaroth growled, gritting his teeth. "Well, I've got the perfect opponent for you."
His eyes locked on the short man—Orin, though Zaroth didn't yet know the name.
"Nightshade!"
Upon his command, the black sleek panther appeared, baring her fangs at Orin.
"…?!"
Orin was stunned for a portion of a second. With just a glance, he was able to tell what kind of beast this was and what they were capable of! He had managed to learn how to use his skill Shadow Travel by observing how they behaved.
He, as well as the panther, disappeared in the shadows, going to have their own battle somewhere else. Leaving Zaroth to face Silver once again.
"Let's see what you got!" he proclaimed, charging in.
While the battle of the two continued, Luna had reached her opponents as well.
