“I casually performed a heart operation on Old Master Bo,” Fang Yuan stated with a hint of nonchalance.
Big Blackie and Big Bai were immediately flabbergasted upon hearing this. “Boss, you…” This was beyond audacious! Undertaking such a task? It seemed beyond human capability.
“Boss, I never anticipated you taking such a substantial risk just to settle our dues. Big Blackie and 1 are truly at a loss for how to repay you. Don’t worry, I’ll visit the bank tomorrow morning and arrange for the funds to be transferred to your account promptly. After that, you can reimburse us our salaries. Perfect!” Their earnings would reflect in their accounts within a few working days – an excellent prospect.
“No…. Boss, I always knew your fondness for us remained. You’ve finally recalled our pay!” Big Blackie was so touched, it teetered on the brink of tears. “I’ve been struggling so much that eating became a luxury!”
“But, Boss, isn’t requesting 300 million for a surgery somewhat ruthless?” Big Bai voiced concerns while examining the check. “If they feel it’s an excessive demand, they might abstain from seeking your services in the future. We could end up with a massive loss!”
“Are you not using your brains? Can our Boss’s talents be equated to ordinary folks?” Swiftly grabbing a pen, Big Blackie inscribed 300 million onto the blank check. “Boss, is there anyone within the Bo Family who necessitates a procedure? One operation costs 300 million, so for 10, it amounts to 31. Money like this can be earned effortlessly! Boss, would you consider boosting Big Bai’s and my bonuses this month?”
A teasing glint shone in Fang Yuan’s eyes: “This money has no relation to you two.” be𝚍no𝚟𝚎l.𝚌𝚘m
“Huh? Boss, are you saying this in jest?” Big Blackie promptly inquired, “Boss, are you fatigued from tending to Old Master Bo? How about I massage your legs?”
“Step aside! Is Boss’s leg something you can lay hands on? Beware or I might sever your hand!” Following Big Bai’s reprimand, he turned to Fang Yuan with a grin. “Boss, how about a shoulder massage?”
Big Blackie: “You dare approach Boss’s shoulders? You’ll find yourself tumbling down the stairs!”
Just then, a sudden knock reverberated through the door. Big Blackie and Big Bai exchanged alarmed glances. Had they been exposed? Or…
“My dear daughter, are you still awake?” Qiao Xinhui’s voice resonated outside the door.
Fang Yuan was caught off guard. Could it be that Qiao Xinhui had stumbled upon something
“Not yet,” Fang Yuan responded in a soft tone. She then turned to her two subordinates, her voice lowered. “Take the check and vanish from my sight within 10 seconds.”
“Boss…” Big Bai was still trying to speak, but Fang Yuan’s dispassionate words cut him off: “Otherwise, the prize money will be confiscated.”
Upon hearing this, Big Bai swiftly catapulted himself over the balcony. “Farewell, Boss!”
“Wait up, damn it!” Big Blackie noticed his companion’s swift exit, and upon catching his boss’s warning glare, he blurted out, “Boss, don’t be mad. We’re making our exit now!”
Fang Yuan uttered icily, “You have three seconds remaining.”
At those words, Big Blackie dashed toward the balcony. “But there are dogs below. I can’t jump, wuwu…”
“Can I come in, sweetheart?” Qiao Xinhui’s voice echoed once more.
Upon hearing this, even though Big Blackie had already departed, Fang Yuan still clung to the railing with one hand. His evident dread of the dog downstairs was palpable. Indeed, that dog was fearsome. It barked incessantly and even drooled. It seemed Fang Yuan would have to intervene.
“Boss, you’re so considerate…” Big Blackie had initially believed that his Boss was going to assist him. Just as he was about to express gratitude, Fang Yuan kicked him off. He plummeted into the bushes, his posterior in danger of splitting!
Simultaneously, the large dog, upon witnessing the tumble, lunged at him with furious barks, teeth bared.
“Alih!” Startled, Big Blackie scrambled to his feet and sprinted away.
Fang Yuan only unlatched the door once she saw his hasty retreat. “Mother, are you still awake?”
“I was concerned you hadn’t eaten enough while out with Yi tonight, so 1 brought you a late-night snack.” Qiao Xinhui held a tray, stepping into the room, when she faintly caught an odd sound. “Darling daughter, did you hear that? It seems a dog is chasing a man.” This was due to the barking dogs outside and a man’s exclamation that could be heard amidst the commotion.
“I didn’t hear that, did I?” Fang Yuan responded, her demeanor unflustered and her heart unruffled.
“I must have misheard,” Qiao Xinhui remarked while placing the tray onto a surface, revealing delectable pastries. “Enjoy them while they’re warm.”
“You prepared all of these?” Fang Yuan expressed her surprise. The pastries looked inviting, but her mother’s culinary skills appeared to be advancing at an unusually rapid pace.
Qiao Xinhui appeared slightly sheepish. “Ahem, yes. The chef was the one who actually made them.” She was concerned that her daughter might not appreciate her unique cooking style, so she enlisted the chef’s help.
“Let’s dig in!” Qiao Xinhui’s gaze brimmed with affection as she regarded Fang Yuan. “You’ve just returned, and if there’s anything you find unfamiliar, remember to let Mom know, alright?”
Fang Yuan picked up her chopsticks. “Sure thing, Mom..”
