True Alpha's Chosen Mate-Chapter 261: One true alpha
"Dan!"
Daniel turned his eyes to the east, seeing Teresa, Priscilla, the unconscious Sally, and a few werewolves and Garrett run in the same direction they were heading. The palace was nearly empty, aside from the vampires they encountered on the way and took down.
"Your Highness is His Grace..." Garrett, who rushed to join Daniel and Silas and their packs, gazed at Hugo on Daniel’s back. Seeing that Hugo seemed to have lost his consciousness, his eyes darkened.
Garrett clenched his teeth as he looked ahead. His mind was slowly filling with anxiety. His wife was still in the inner palace and was surely caught up in the chaos.
"Cora is still back there to help Tomas," he reported solemnly, barely holding himself back from going back to assist his wife. "Princess Sally’s condition is still bad, but if she regenerates continuously, she’ll get better."
Daniel and Silas bore a solemn look with her jaw tight. Eyes glinting menacingly. They were grateful that their little sister seemed to be alright, but relief never came into their hearts, 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Their other siblings, their brothers, and sisters were still scattered in the inner palace, fighting. They all encountered the vampires. One advantage they had was that their enemy didn’t have a need to worry if one of them dropped dead. They would even use their allies as cannon fodder if they must.
"Those fucking undead..." Silas ground his teeth, holding his hand into a fist, smoldering in anger but unable to release it all. "Once Hugo wakes up, I’ll fucking strangle him to death as well."
He clicked his tongue in irritation, pushing all the blame on Hugo. But deep in his heart, he couldn’t truly blame his brother. What was happening right now was the same once they marched to the Hendrik Empire.
"Your Highness, I --"
"Once everyone had fled the imperial palace, Garrett." Daniel cut his brother-in-law’s sentence before Garrett could even ask for his permission. "My sister, Cora, will be fine. She’s strong."
Garrett gritted his teeth as he nodded. "I know, your highness."
"I know you are torn between your duty as a warrior and as a husband," the crown prince continued, sprinting at the same speed while Silas ran past him at the sight of the vampires ahead. "But don’t forget, Cora... is fulfilling her duty as a mighty warrior as we speak."
"I understand, Your Highness."
Daniel shot Garrett a glance and bitterness flickered across his eyes. He understood the latter’s worries. Cora was his wife, but she was also Daniel’s sister.
But this was already war, and the imperial palace had now become the battlefield. A cemetery for both vampires and werewolves fighting for glory.
’Lamb,’ he called in his head as memories of the distant past flashed before his eyes. The screams and yells, the sound of flesh getting ripped apart and the distinct thud of limbs falling on the ground, the permeating scent of blood that was wafting his nose, reminded him of those times in the past.
Daniel was aware that this... was only the beginning. The casualties would only grow. They had to keep it to a minimum.
HOWL...
Suddenly, they all heard a howl amidst the other noises across the imperial palace. Daniel and Garrett, and every werewolf who heard that howl, halted. Everyone turned their heads to where the howl came from, wide-eyed.
The howl wasn’t the same as the commanding howl from the emperor. This howl... was more like a warning from someone who planned to enter a feral state. And that howl came from someone everyone knew.
Elizabeth.
"Dan!" yelled Silas while holding a vampire’s head, tightening his grip until he crushed his opponent’s head.
"Garrett, regroup with everyone at the gates of the palace. I --"
"Dan." Daniel’s sentence was cut off when Hugo, whom he was carrying on his back, spoke in a dead tone. "Brother, Tomas is dead."
The crown prince’s back stiffened at Hugo’s remarks before loosening his grip until Hugo stood as if he wasn’t entirely unconscious all this time. He looked at him, wide-eyed, watching Hugo run his fingers through the hair and brushing it back to show an unsmiling countenance.
"Thank you for carrying me, brother." Hugo cast him a cold look before his eyes glossed over Garrett standing nearby. "I’m sorry for zoning out. I was... overwhelmed by everyone’s thoughts and feelings."
"Hugo, you..."
"Garrett, assist my little sisters to where my son is. The Tarsa tribe is already helping everyone to evacuate and cleared the area. And then come back to get your wife. No one can stop her from rushing to her death after witnessing how Cedrick chopped him up aside from you." Hugo ignored Daniel as he set his focus on Garrett.
The latter’s eyes lit up as he bowed. "Yes, Your Grace!"
"Silas!" Hugo drew a breath, only to yell for Silas’ name. He cocked his head back, eyes over Daniel’s shoulder to Silas standing several meters away from their vantage point.
"I’ll let you strangle me later, but you need to come to assist Vic."
"Who the fuck do you think you are to give me the fucking stupid order?" yelled Silas through his gritted teeth, throwing all rational thoughts due to anger. "That’s already my fucking plans once the girls are safe!"
"The girls... are my responsibility, you dolt!!"
Suddenly, a voice from up above caressed their ears. The next second, they saw someone land near Teresa’s vantage point. Teresa jolted back when a hand suddenly held hers and a figure bowing.
"Let me take you to safety, Your Highness. Or you can find shelter in the safety of my embrace. I wouldn’t mind." Teresa ground her teeth as she wrested her hand from Reks’ grip, holding them closer to her chest.
"Sir Reks, ha ha..." She laughed awkwardly, creating distance with this pervert, whom every lady in the empire stayed away from. Well, aside from Tito, who was admired by many, everyone in the mad wolf pack was being avoided by almost everyone.
"Don’t touch my sister, you bastard!" yelled Silas, grumbling at the sudden appearance of his best friend on the training ground. The next second, Ivo also came into the scene, landing near Silas who rushed to this place after they made sure their alpha’s son, Toby, and others were safe.
"Shit! Why are you just coming now?" Silas scoffed, glaring at Ivo. "Where the fuck have you been?"
The latter, who didn’t have the trace of evidence he fought with anyone yet, shrugged. "We were completing orders."
Before they could exchange pleasantries, Hugo spoke once again. "Reks!" his eyes burning brightly glossed over at everyone around the area.
"You will assist Silas and snap Vic back from her feral state. Cora is already on her way there! Garrett and Ivo, you two will make sure my sisters will meet with Tito and then come back to take down Raphael." Hugo paused as he slowly settled his eyes at the crown prince, He raised his fist and moved it closer to Daniel.
"Let’s help father, brother," he bumped his fist against Daniel’s shoulder. "Stop spacing out. I won’t carry you just like what you did."
Daniel let out a deep breath after observing his brother for a bit. He thought Hugo had lost it already, but it seemed he inherited one of the wolf’s abilities to hear everyone’s hearts and thoughts. He remembered having that ability in the past, knowing every death, sensing everyone’s emotions even from a mile, and hearing the tiniest sound.
He thought he simply lost it or it was sealed deep within since the holy war. But it seemed this ability wasn’t his anymore... and all other lost abilities and power transferred to his brother. For some obvious reason, Daniel had mixed emotions because some of them were... self-destructive.
Either way, this was not the time for that. They needed to resolve the situation and fight for victory. They had to see the sunrise and rise along with it.
"You’re welcome." Daniel shook his head mildly, raising his fist, and bumped his knuckles against Hugo’s. The latter chuckled shortly before he looked at everyone once again.
Right now, although Daniel was the crown prince, the emperor gave him his solid permission to lead the war. This was the war, and they were already in the middle of it.
"Stay alive!" he yelled until the veins in his neck protruded, warranting solemn reactions as each one of them bore red, glowing eyes in the dark.
"If you die!" Hugo breathed out through his mouth, fog forming at each breath. "You’ll die honorably. It will not be in vain... that I promise!"
"Yes!" Born as warriors, they shouted in unison and with the same conviction.
For some reason, Hugo’s energy and strong, determined aura affected them, raising their morale. His presence slowly replaced the sordid atmosphere and everyone... was subconsciously aware that this power that could affect all werewolves — both weak or capable — was the peak of being a true alpha.
The stage that even Deimos hadn’t reached.
The power of the king of all werewolves: the one true alpha.
