Treasure Hunting System: The Ocean Conquerer-Chapter 545 - 265 Border Island
The blazing sun, hanging motionless forever in the sky, cast its radiance down.
The boundless sea appeared calm, yet strange phenomena unfolded.
The tranquil sea was slowly parted down the middle, without any warning.
This sight made the Sound of Dawn, which was lingering in these waters, desperately veer away.
Fortunately, although the sea inexplicably split open, the resulting current did not seem very strong.
The Sound of Dawn, as well as the Golden Trout ahead, both broke free from the dragging force and entered safer waters.
"That sudden crack wasn’t just a spatial distortion, was it?" Alka turned and asked.
After all, the split sea did create some drag toward the water channel, just not very strongly.
Julia nodded.
"It definitely wasn’t caused by spatial chaos."
"Then what did cause it?" Jason leaned in, curious.
"A spatial rupture."
"...That’s even worse than chaos." Hearing this, Alka commented, speechless.
Ruptures actually cause real harm to the surroundings, while chaos just manifests as a change in appearance, but there’s no real difference at the core.
If their ship had just been sucked into that fissure, it would have been a disaster.
This godforsaken place really is incredibly dangerous.
But the oceanic crack caused by that spatial rupture didn’t last long; after about ten minutes, it abruptly vanished.
In an instant, a powerful pull surged through the current, and a huge whirlpool appeared where the rupture had been.
There was actually a second wave of attack?
"Full speed! Full speed ahead!"
Alka shouted, as the Spells on the Sound of Dawn radiated a brilliant blue light, and they sped away from the whirlpool with all their might.
Although it seemed tense, it wasn’t all that dire.
If things got really bad, they could switch to submersible mode— even if they sank to the ocean floor, it wouldn’t matter too much.
Luckily, the Sound of Dawn was a Ghost Ship; with just a burst of speed, it broke free from the pulling force in an instant.
For her, this wasn’t much of a challenge—at most, just a warm-up.
After all, to improve speed, Alka and Simon had added more speed-related Spells to the Sound of Dawn.
They escaped, but others might not be so lucky.
"The Golden Trout can’t hold out!" came Lucilia’s voice from overhead.
Hearing that, they all looked into the distance.
They saw the Golden Trout was simply too big and too slow to turn, and was being dragged sideways toward the whirlpool.
Even though its own Spells were fully loaded, its speed still couldn’t overcome the tremendous pull of the vortex.
Even though they were at the outskirts.
"Help them," Alka shouted.
Julia and Pororo, along with Matilda, hurried to the prow.
They all raised their hands high.
The three from the Ocean Race had a natural affinity for manipulating currents.
They acted together.
Enormous waves surged up suddenly from the edge of the whirlpool, and as they crashed down, the resulting counterflow opposed the whirl and quickly swept beneath the Golden Fish.
The powerful current dragged at the ship’s stern, pulling it free and conveniently straightening its course.
With the help of the current, the Golden Trout’s crisis quickly subsided, and it sped out of the whirlpool’s reach under the push of the water.
As the whirlpool gradually dissipated,
The Golden Trout was completely out of danger.
Just then, a clear ding-dong rang from above.
"I see an island!"
At those words, everyone looked in the direction Lucilia was pointing.
Soon, they spotted a tiny black dot on the far edge of vision.
"So we’ve finally found this island. That wasn’t easy." Jason said with exasperation.
Border Island was just too far from Southern Cross Island; all they knew was a general area.
Because even when Border Island reconnected, it wouldn’t appear in a fixed location— it would fluctuate across a segment of the sea.
This meant they’d already reached the area, but had been wandering all over, searching for the island.
They had been searching for almost two days, and at last found it.
If they’d been even a few days later, Border Island would have vanished again, and they’d have to wait another hundred days and nights for its next return.
As Alka and the others discovered the island, the Golden Trout—not far away—spotted it too, and both vessels headed toward it together.
Soon, the full outline of the island appeared before them; at a glance, they could make out its boundaries.
Suddenly seeing an island whose edges you could directly see took some getting used to.
Judging by its size, it was only about twice as big as Alka’s current home, Golden Wheat Island.
For the Sea of No Silver, this was only a small island.
Yet the island’s vegetation still looked fairly lush.
As they sailed, they gradually approached the island.
They began cruising along the island’s edge, searching for a natural harbor where they could anchor.
But after a full circle, they hadn’t found a single natural port.
It really was an island not well suited for habitation.
With no choice, they anchored further out.
The bow hatch of the Sound of Dawn opened, and after a long time, the Swallow was pushed out.
For Simon and Matilda, this was their first time aboard the little boat.
Not far away, the larger Golden Trout also put a small boat in the water, and they could see only a dozen or so crew members aboard.
