Treasure Hunting System: The Ocean Conquerer-Chapter 542 - 264: Sailing
DING! DING! DING!
The crisp sound of bells echoed all around.
The Sound of Dawn slowly withdrew from its berth. The water current below formed a supportive cradle, carrying the ship out of the harbor. Only when the ship crossed the white line did the water current dissipate, and the Spell covering the gunports vanished as well.
Accelerating, they moved out of the Island’s range, passing by the surrounding ships. Then, they stopped on the outer perimeter to wait.
Before long, they spotted a huge merchant ship approaching—it was none other than Balazs’s Golden Trout.
A bird formed of lines flew over. The [Flying Bird] Spell was perhaps the most widespread Spell. The bird vanished by Alka’s ear after conveying its message.
The Golden Trout quickly passed the Sound of Dawn, sailing ahead to lead the way. Then, the Sound of Dawn swiftly got underway. They had already discussed this plan.
At the helm, someone was already steering—an unusual sight. Alka stood nearby, observing what Chadite held in his hands.
It was an object resembling a Compass, adorned with a red Cross Star Mark. Each point of the star indicated a direction. The red mark slowly rotated on the surface of the Compass, guiding Alka and his companions.
This item was a Landmark Compass, used for navigation in the Endless Sea, obtainable only from a Landmark Island. Its principle, roughly speaking, was to use the Landmark Island where it was made as a reference point to distinguish the four cardinal directions: east, south, west, and north. These items were almost never sold as finished products; each one had to be crafted on-site. No one knew why. It seemed to be a rather esoteric piece of knowledge.
Alka and his companions had placed the manufacturing order on their second day after arriving on the Island. However, they had only received it a couple of days ago.
This type of Compass was intrinsically linked to the Landmark Island where it was made. The Compass they held was clearly linked to Southern Cross Island. If this Landmark Island encountered any problems, the Compass would also malfunction.
Balazs had suggested that Alka and his companions prepare an extra Compass to prevent accidents. Such an accident might not be encountered in a lifetime; the Compass could even remain effective until its owner’s family line perished. But it was always best to be prepared for the unexpected.
Although they could follow closely behind the Golden Trout all the way to their destination, Chadite was simulating his own navigation. This was to prepare for unexpected situations and to practice precise navigation in the Endless Sea. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"According to that rudimentary island chain map, we have to head sixteen degrees north of east. In about thirty days and nights, we should reach the vicinity of our destination."
As he spoke, Chadite produced another item, which also bore a Cross Star Mark. It too was a product from Southern Cross Island—a tool used for timekeeping in the Endless Sea. It was a roughly palm-sized cylindrical device. Though called an Hourglass, its contents didn’t flow up and down with the movement of one’s hand. Inside, it contained fluorescent, sand-like particles that circulated automatically. The cylinder itself had scale markings.
The particles were currently, slowly turning black; when they became completely black, it signified that night was about to fall. After nightfall, these particles would slowly begin to flow and transition to white. When all of them had turned white, daytime would have arrived.
It was a timekeeping device with an incomprehensible mechanism, seemingly influenced by some form of Energy pervading the world. This Energy apparently governed the cycle of day and night. Ever since they had purchased it, this timekeeping device had proven to be very accurate. By observing the changes in the scales, they could determine how many hours of daylight and nighttime a particular day would have.
At that moment, the scale read twenty-one. This meant daylight on that particular day would last for twenty-one hours, followed by night. It was a simple and easy-to-understand tool.
"Forty days and nights, huh? We’ll be at sea for quite a while again," Jason said helplessly, sitting not far away.
At sea, one must endure loneliness.
...
As they sailed fully into the deep sea, life aboard the ship for everyone settled into an extraordinarily regular routine, with each day involving almost the same activities. Their watch shifts were an exception, during which they would engage in Meditation. When not on duty, they were either studying or reading. During their free time, each found interesting activities to occupy themselves. Thus, for those who sailed the seas, not having any hobbies was out of the question; sailors on long voyages invariably developed various unique skills.
And during this period, Lucilia successfully advanced to the Third Stage.
Jason and Juanlu sat on the ship’s railing, quietly fishing and watching the Puppet Knight Order conduct their routine training on deck.
"Sigh, the two of us have become the weakest on the ship," Jason sighed, raising his hand to stroke the Crystal Dragon sleeping beside him.
Juanlu, who was quietly fishing, lifted his sun-shading conical hat slightly and cast a sidelong glance at him.
"You should shut up," Juanlu said, exasperated.
The weakest had now become him; his strength had only recently reached Eight Spirals. Meanwhile, Jason, with the help of the Crystal Dragon, was making rapid progress. After all, the Magic Power conversion rate provided by the Crystal Dragon was the highest among them. Due to their contract, Jason’s physique had also been enhanced, making his already decent talent even stronger. Without considering the aid of Treasures, his personal cultivation speed alone already ranked him in the top tier within the team. In this tier, only Chadite and Julia stood with him.
Alka was not included in this comparison due to the strength of his soul.
This had led to Jason advancing to Eight Spirals even before they left the Island. He was hopeful of advancing to Nine Spirals after they reached their destination.
