Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 737 - 735: The Him She Doesn’t Know (Second Update)
"Brother, aren’t you hungry? Hurry up and eat!"
The wine glass in his hand was snatched away, and the clear, crisp voice pulled him back to reality. He stared unblinkingly at the face in front of him that had haunted his dreams. He raised his hand to touch it, feeling the warm temperature and delicate texture, finally believing it.
He was really back!
That night, Da Bao drank a bit too much. Of course, it wasn’t during dinner, but afterwards, when he was drinking with his dad in the small bar on the second floor.
His dad never asked about his romantic affairs. What the father and son talked about was naturally the Ji Family and Da Bao’s upcoming plans.
Da Bao’s idea was to stay at home and play with his younger siblings for ten days or so, then the whole family would go to Beijing to celebrate Grandpa Zeng’s centenary birthday. By around August, he could return to the Ji Family to report for duty.
Meanwhile, Le Tong was in Da Bao’s bedroom with Nuonuo, helping him pack his luggage.
"Mommy, this suitcase is locked with a code. I’ll put it aside and let Brother sort it out himself, okay?"
Da Bao didn’t bring back much luggage. Most of his clothes and belongings were left in the small apartment abroad. Although he had returned to his country, he had no plans to sell the apartment.
Da Bao started managing his account when he was about seven or eight years old. Apart from the regular pocket money from his parents and elders, he also started receiving dividend shares from the Ji Family around that time.
So, he owned properties under his name very early on. The small apartment abroad was just one among many properties. During his time as the general manager at Huagang and while studying abroad these past few years, his assets had increased significantly. Judging by the numbers in his account now, he was undoubtedly considered a wealthy man.
Yet, this wealthy man was extremely low-key. He took just a few pieces of luggage when he went abroad three years ago, and he returned with just those few pieces, without a trace of luxury items or extravagant mannerisms.
"Hmm, it’s probably some important documents or something. Put it inside the wardrobe room, and he can slowly sort it out when he gets some free time."
Le Tong always respected her children’s privacy. If they were willing to talk, she listened happily. If they wanted to keep something hidden, she wouldn’t intentionally pry. After all, no one likes the feeling of being stripped bare and scrutinized.
Nuonuo dragged the suitcase into Da Bao’s wardrobe room and saw several suits hanging there. They must have been hung up by Mommy after she tidied her brother’s suitcase.
Nuonuo stood in front of those suits, contemplating as she tried to imagine how her brother would look in them.
She knew that her brother would certainly look handsome and talented in them. Unfortunately, either her imagination wasn’t rich enough, or her brother in that image felt too distant and unreal. The only picture she had in her mind was of her brother in regular casual clothes, always looking at her with a doting smile.
"Mommy, have you ever seen Brother wearing a suit and tie?" Nuonuo called out from outside.
"He wears formal attire at banquets, haven’t you seen it?"
"Not the banquet kind of formal wear, but the simple office suits." Nuonuo clearly differentiated, knowing these suits were for work occasions.
"Oh, I’ve seen it. He sometimes wore them to work before!"
Mommy’s answer left Nuonuo silent once more.
Actually, it wasn’t just her brother’s thoughts that she couldn’t fathom; even her brother’s image, she had only seen the side he showed in front of her. In the spaces she couldn’t see, he was called Ji Yu, a genius in both academics and work. It seemed he had nothing to do with her.
Three years ago, whether because she was too young or too naive, she always thought her brother was her everything and her sky.
And she also believed that to her brother, she was also his everything and his sky.
But the brother she thought saw her as everything suddenly said he was going to study abroad three years ago, and no matter how much she pleaded and fussed, he still left her decisively.
Three years changed her a lot, and she saw through many people and things, including herself and others.
But this clarity sadly didn’t include her brother.
In the early days of her brother’s departure, she often thought that he was heartless, letting go of her so completely.
But as time went on, she found it harder and harder to hate him.
Because she became increasingly aware that even though she was the sister he cherished the most, she had no right or standing to demand that he abandon his choices to unconditionally cater to her life.
So, rather than saying she’s still angry about her brother’s departure years ago, it’s more accurate to say she’s upset with herself for not being capable enough, unable to keep up with him, let alone experience the same life he did.
"By the way, Nuonuo, are you still going to the concert the day after tomorrow?"
Le Tong’s question interrupted Nuonuo’s contemplation.
"Of course, why wouldn’t I?"
Nuonuo seemed unsure why her mommy would ask such a question. This charity concert had been prepared for half a year by Teacher Fan, and as a member of the orchestra, how could she not attend?
"I thought maybe since you haven’t seen your Brother Da Bao for years, you’d want to spend more time with him."
"Is Brother staying in the country this time?"
In fact, even if Brother were going abroad again, she couldn’t stop him. Besides, Brother had his friends and life and didn’t need her constant companionship.
"He probably won’t!"
Le Tong thought that with Da Bao’s return, the happiest person should be Nuonuo.
But ever since last week when she learned that her brother was coming back, she became more reticent, just like during dinner earlier, when she unusually remained silent.
Plus, Little Treasure told her earlier that this little girl would rather shop with classmates than go pick up her brother.
It seemed this little girl was still mad at Brother Da Bao.
"Nuonuo, are you still mad at your brother?"
Le Tong estimated that Da Bao had already sensed Nuonuo’s emotions and had probably tried to comfort her before she returned, but it seemed it didn’t work well.
"Mommy, I’m not mad at my brother. However, the concert preparations started half a year ago, and if I suddenly say I can’t participate, it’ll be hard for Teacher Fan to find a replacement, which would directly affect the entire orchestra’s performance."
Nuonuo’s reasoning was sound, and Le Tong naturally couldn’t disagree. She could only say, "I heard from your brother that he wants to take you and Little Treasure out for a few days. You should let him know about your performance schedule so he can plan around it."
"Okay, I’ll tell him tomorrow."
In fact, besides the performance, Nuonuo had made plans a month ago with the children at the orphanage to participate in a summer camp organized by the City Youth Palace. Originally, she intended to tell Daddy and Mommy after the high school entrance exam results were released, but now it seemed this plan might have to be put on hold.
