Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 736 - 734: Could it be, an Epiphany? (Part One)
The usually chatty Nuonuo was now silent, and Da Bao also said nothing. The brother and sister sat on the sofa in a haphazard manner, one seemingly watching TV, the other openly watching her, as if trying to make up for all the time missed over the past three years.
The TV remote was tirelessly flicked by fair fingers through dozens of channels, back and forth, countless times. Finally, the little girl bit her lip and turned to face the bright-eyed Da Bao.
"Aren’t you tired?" Though she was asking out of concern, her tone was extraordinarily begrudging.
Da Bao honestly nodded, "Tired, of course! I still haven’t adjusted to the time difference."
Pretend to be pitiful? Who can’t do that?
Especially for an old hand like Da Bao, making the little girl feel sorry for him was a piece of cake.
Nuonuo barely perceptibly furrowed her brow, then glared at him fiercely, "Then go take a shower and sleep, what are you sitting here for?"
Da Bao grinned, leaned over, and ruffled her hair.
"My little princess still has a belly full of anger, so how dare I go take a shower and sleep..."
Da Bao showed a boyishly appeasing smile on his face.
Nuonuo countered by tossing the pillow beside her at his face, "Go to hell!"
That face made her inexplicably furious just by seeing it!
Da Bao reached out and caught the pillow steadily, then knelt on the sofa, moved a few inches forward, and with one hand gathered her loose curls, while with the other hand reached for her slender wrist, removing the hair tie from it. His long fingers quickly combed through her hair, deftly tying it into a ponytail.
The action was fluid and practiced, more skilled than the owner of the hair herself, making it hard to believe he hadn’t done this in three years.
"How old are you, still needing your brother to help you tie your hair!"
Of course, his help wasn’t free; the compensation was a light kiss, which landed on the snow-white nape of her neck below her hairline.
"I didn’t..." The stubborn little girl was rendered speechless halfway through her sentence, as if under a spell.
The reason was, of course, a certain someone’s uninvited action had shocked her.
Da Bao secretly rejoiced a little. If the eleven-year-old Nuonuo didn’t understand what his kiss on her lips meant, then she, nearly fifteen, probably at least somewhat understood that this recent kiss had exceeded the range of intimacy between siblings.
Da Bao was still contemplating whether to go further when the stiff-bodied girl suddenly stood up without warning, said nothing, and strode towards her bedroom.
Da Bao raised his eyes and unexpectedly saw her ears and nape a large patch of red, like a steaming prawn. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Could it be that she’s awakened?
This delightful thought nearly drove Da Bao crazy as it flashed through his mind.
But he immediately dismissed it.
What’s there to be happy about, he thought; in Nuonuo’s eyes, he’s still her Brother Da Bao! If that could make her awaken, how strong would her heart have to be!
Thinking of this, Da Bao couldn’t help but feel puzzled.
Even after he finished showering and lay in bed, Da Bao still couldn’t figure out why the little girl was reacting so abnormally after he stole a kiss.
However, having been on a plane for over twenty hours, he was indeed exhausted and promptly fell into a deep sleep once he lay down.
When he awoke, he opened his eyes to find himself in darkness, with a familiar scent faintly in the air.
His mind slowly restarted, reminding him that he had just ended three years of studying abroad and was now comfortably lying in his familiar home.
He turned on the light and glanced at the time: a little past nine. That nap had lasted nearly four hours.
He got up, quickly washed up, and walked out. In the living room, besides his mom Le Tong who wasn’t there, three people sat in a row: his dad, Little Treasure, and Nuonuo.
"Awake?"
Even after three years, President Ji still looked like he was in his thirties and came over to vigorously ruffle his hair and give his shoulder a firm pat. With their eyes nearly level, they exchanged a smile and walked shoulder to shoulder like good brothers into the living room.
Da Bao sniffed, "Mommy’s cooking?"
The familiar, rich aroma instantly awakened his hunger.
"Yes, I suggested dining out, but she insisted on cooking herself." President Ji shook his head helplessly.
He and Le Tong had returned from a business trip and landed around five in the afternoon; it was after seven by the time they got home. Hearing from the two little ones that their brother was still asleep, they planned to dine out, but Le Tong, as a mom, dropped everything, rolled up her sleeves, and went into the kitchen, refusing to take no for an answer.
"I’ll go take a look!"
Da Bao turned and entered the kitchen carefully, stealthily walking up behind apron-clad Le Tong, and hugging her waist. Like a large dog, he rested limply against her back, placing his chin on her shoulder but refrained from speaking.
Le Tong was flipping the chicken in the pan. Without turning her head, she asked gently, as if she had eyes in the back of her head, "Slept well?"
Da Bao then gave a kiss on her cheek with a "smack," "How are you so sure it’s me?"
Le Tong leaned her face back against his, rubbing his forehead with hers, and said with a smile, "I’ve got a good nose, can tell the difference between you, your dad, and Little Treasure."
If someone else had said that, Da Bao might not believe it, but if his mommy said it, he absolutely believed it.
Or rather, it wasn’t that mommy had a good nose, but that she was exceptionally keen; there weren’t many things about the Ji Family she could overlook.
"Mommy, I missed you so much..."
Even though he’s almost twenty-one, in front of mommy, he always seemed like a child.
Le Tong slightly leaned her head back, rubbing him again with her face, "Mommy missed you too, dear. Go sit, dinner will be ready soon."
This trick, used on the other four members of the Ji Family including the grown man behind her, was equally effective. The grown man snuggled into her neck, deeply inhaling the long-missed yet familiar scent, satisfied, he left the kitchen reluctantly.
"Son, welcome home!" At the dining table, Le Tong and Ji Rui raised their wine glasses.
Nuonuo and Little Treasure also raised their glasses of juice, "Brother Dabao, welcome home!"
Da Bao clinked glasses with his parents, brother, and sister, raised his head, and drank the wine in one go.
"Daddy, Mommy, Nuonuo, Little Treasure, I’m back!"
Though normally he had a good tolerance for alcohol, just finishing that glass made him feel slightly tipsy.
The familiar faces before him wavered slightly, and for a moment, he thought he was still abroad, dreaming of these people he longed for day and night.
