Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 714 - 712 Nuonuo’s New Friend (3rd Update)
The bus drove into the orphanage, and Teacher Fan called everyone to get off. Nuonuo slung her backpack and carried her violin as she followed her senior brothers and sisters off the bus.
The phone in her backpack rang. Nuonuo took it out and saw it was a call from home, thinking it was Mommy checking in on her.
Nuonuo followed the group into the yard and answered the phone, "Hello, Mommy?"
"It’s Brother!" A long-missed voice came through the phone.
"Brother? You’re back?"
Nuonuo’s gloom and dreariness were instantly swept away, and her voice unconsciously lifted several tones.
On the other side, Ji Dabao, even without seeing her face, could imagine her sweet smile from her barely concealed excited tone.
"Yeah, just got home! Little Treasure told me you’re doing a performance today, have you arrived?"
"I just got here! Brother, why didn’t you tell me in advance that you were coming back?"
Nuonuo regretted it to death now, if she had known earlier that Brother was coming back today, she wouldn’t have volunteered for this trip.
All the independent proclamations she had come up with a few days ago were completely forgotten by now.
Ji Dabao naturally wouldn’t say that he was originally supposed to return in two or three days, but the intentional distance over the past days had stretched his nerves to the limit. On the verge of driving himself crazy, in a rash moment, he had his assistant book a ticket for today early last night, left a message for Zhong Hao, and hurried to the airport with his luggage.
All the way back, he happily planned how to spend this brief reunion weekend with his family. Who would have thought that upon his enthusiastic return home, he would hear that the little girl was away performing all day and wouldn’t be back until the evening?
"Oh, I didn’t expect things to wrap up so quickly."
Ji Dabao replied calmly, unaware that his rash decision last night had left a mess for Zhong Hao to clean up.
"Brother, Teacher Fan is calling us to gather, let’s chat later, I’ll call you back tonight."
Nuonuo finished speaking, and without waiting for Ji Dabao to respond, she hung up the phone. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Ji Dabao, originally intending to ask her if she needed a ride or something, found his plans thwarted as she hung up, leaving him without any thoughts. Little Treasure tugged at him, asking, "Brother, Daddy got me the latest rifle model, do you want to see it?"
"I’ll go take a shower first!" Ji Dabao absentmindedly replied to Little Treasure, dragging his luggage into the bedroom.
Nuonuo at the orphanage didn’t have the extra thought to worry about anything else, hurriedly catching up with the group after hanging up the phone.
Ahead, the orphanage director was saying something to Teacher Fan. Nuonuo caught up, and the senior next to her glanced at her, "Si Han, Teacher Fan just asked us to turn off our phones."
Nuonuo quickly took out her phone, rapidly typed a few words, sent them out, and then obediently turned off her phone.
Ji Dabao, out of the shower, noticed a message from Nuonuo on his phone, thinking it was the little girl’s apology. The corners of his mouth involuntarily raised.
Upon opening it, his expression sank.
"Brother, Teacher Fan is asking us to turn off our phones, I’ll call you back after the performance."
Nuonuo had just put her phone away when Teacher Fan, done communicating with the director, turned to them and said.
"The children are currently in class, everyone put your violins inside the house and then go to the bus to bring over the gifts for the children."
The gifts in the bus were specially prepared by Le Tong to be sent with Xiao Li to Teacher Fan. On the phone, Le Tong also asked Teacher Fan to keep it secret, saying the gifts were from the band members for the children in the orphanage.
Teacher Fan was quite familiar with the Le Tong couple, so earlier with the director he simply mentioned the gifts were a small thought from the band members to the children.
The director was naturally very happy, after all, they had many children, and funding was always tight, barely able to cover the kids’ living expenses, let alone extra gifts or snacks.
Le Tong prepared so many gifts that they completely filled the bus’s luggage compartment, including clothes to keep warm, educational books, plenty of snacks and toys amongst the gifts.
The children receiving the gifts were thrilled, lining up neatly to bow in gratitude towards the band members at the director’s request.
Teacher Fan was obviously embarrassed by this, saying to the director there’s no need for such formalities, as long as the thought is appreciated.
Standing amongst the crowd, Nuonuo looked across at the children wearing not-so-bright clothes, mostly thin and frail, and inexplicably felt overwhelmingly uncomfortable.
She knew orphans existed, but standing face to face like this, she truly understood the bitterness in the word "orphan." At this moment, she strongly felt how big the difference could be between people.
For the first time in her life, she realized the gap between poverty and wealth.
Thinking about herself, she could get whatever she wanted just by asking.
But the children across from her, many likely around her age, were holding just a simple sweatshirt or an inexpensive book, yet their expressions showed immense satisfaction.
Not long ago, she was regretting participating in this volunteer performance.
But now, she’s grateful to have been part of it.
Only now did she realize she had been a frog at the bottom of the well, ignorant of the world.
The location of the performance was right in the middle of the spacious yard, band members stood in the center as the orphanage children formed a large circle, watching with curious eyes, seriously listening to the music. After each piece, the children clapped enthusiastically.
It could be said this was the worst venue Nuonuo had performed at, but her feelings were the most complex.
The band performed six ensemble pieces and six solos, with Nuonuo performing one solo.
After completing her solo, Nuonuo stepped aside, watching another senior’s performance.
"Hello..." A timid voice sounded in Nuonuo’s ear.
Nuonuo turned to look; it was a boy as tall as her, looking clean but very thin.
"Hello, is there something you need?"
"Could you tell me what piece you played just now?" The boy seemed shy, with a somewhat red face, nervously twisting his hands together.
"It was ’The Four Seasons. Autumn,’ have you heard it before?" Nuonuo replied with a smile.
The boy shook his head, "I haven’t heard it before, but you played it beautifully!"
"Thank you! My name is Ji Sihan, what’s yours?" Nuonuo kindly introduced herself.
By this time, she had completely forgotten Brother Dabao’s constant warnings not to tell strangers her name.
"I... I’m Si Jun."
