Chapter 418: This was sweet, sweet heaven, I tell you

We walked into the pastry shop and were greeted by the warm smell of freshly baked croissants and sweet potato bread. I sniffed in heavily and then let out a long satisfied sigh.

When was the last time I walked into a pastry shop and was hit with such deliciousness?

"This shop has both Western and Asian pastry types. So you can find pretty much anything here."

Ah, it was no wonder I smelled croissants. They were just so heavenly. I hope they have chocolate croissants too, and macarons, and garlic cream cheese bread, and... I took in one more deep breath and sighed happily... Cinnamon rolls. Lots and lots of it.

Min-Cheol suddenly chuckled and I turned to him.

"You must be really happy right now." He said. "Your face says it all."

"Why wouldn’t I be happy? Anyway..." I finally calmed down and was able to see that the place was filled with people.

How did I not notice this right away?

"It seems like it’s very crowded," I mumbled. "When will it ever get to our turn?"

I hope they don’t run out of chocolate croissants by the time it gets to us. I inwardly prayed.

"Will you be sad if you don’t get what you want?" Min-Cheol suddenly asked and I turned to him.

"Well, isn’t that obvious?" I asked. "I’m already salivating at the thought. Imagine after all that, I get to the counter and see that most shelves have already been emptied out."

"Then," he was about to raise his hand when I held it.

"Nu-huh. Stop right there. I know what you’re trying to do."

As much as I want to have those croissants, I don’t think it’s right to cut through so many people who came so early because of the same reason.

I know I’m privileged and all, and that with a flick of his wrist, the entire place will be cleared out for me but... He shouldn’t just push everyone out of the way.

"Should I buy the store instead?" He asked and I froze, quickly letting go of his hand.

Hm, on second thought, I agree. He can just push everyone out of the way. That’s what it means to be rich and powerful anyway.

"Let’s... Find our way to the front." I smiled.

This was no time to be feeling sentimental about cutting lines. The owner of this shop almost lost the right to ownership just now.

Let’s just turn a blind eye and silently enjoy the croissants.

The guards cleared the way and a lot of murmuring rose up. The moment they saw Min-Cheol–and me– walking towards the front in the open space the guards had cleared up, the murmuring rose even louder, and I could practically hear what they were saying.

Stuff like, "Isn’t that Kang Min-Cheol from the Kang group?"

"Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I can see him in person."

"Why does he have a brace around his neck, though? Is he hurt?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Yeah, words circling around that edge and then most of all...

"Who is that guy walking hand in hand with him?"

I was practically holding my breath as I walked with Min-Cheol. He held my hand, refused to let go, and was ready to announce to the world that we were a couple.

But do you know what?

My picture’s still circulating around the Internet thanks to my appearance with Jin-Yeok. Now, if the Internet got a whiff of this right now, wouldn’t they all go ballistic, claiming I was two-timing while wondering what our relationship really is?

And what my identity was?

’I feel like a freaking celebrity.’

But I was nervous. Unlike before, I couldn’t flaunt. Not that I was shy, I was just being... Contained, hoping no one would be able to recognize me or get a good shot that they could use to compare on the internet.

"Are you okay?" Min-Cheol asked, not able to look down clearly but his eyes were on me. "Does it bother you? Do you want me to throw everyone out?"

"N-no," I said, clutching his arm. "Don’t worry about it. It will pass."

We got to the front. There was a lady standing behind the counter but who cared about that? My eyes were whisking from one end of the store to the other, my mouth salivating, and my heart racing.

"H-hello," she greeted, lightly bowing her head but when she raised it, her eyes landed right on Min-Cheol as she blushed. But Min-Cheol’s eyes were fixed on me, watching as my eyes excitedly pranced around the place and my body jerking to the excitement.

He could tell, since our hands were still connected.

This was sweet, sweet heaven, I tell you.

"What can I get you?" She asked, and I spread my arm to block her view of Min-Cheol, but I was only just trying to get her attention and succeeded, though her blush fell as she looked at me.

I could tell she was jealous but what did that matter?

I was so excited that I ended up blurting out something I didn’t mean. And I mean, it was something I shouldn’t even have asked but I did.

"Is your chef single?" I asked and she paused, Min-Cheol flinched and I... I did nothing.

The words slipped out of my lips before I even realized it.

"What?" Min-Cheol’s cold tone hit me hard and that was when I realized it. How could... How could I have asked such a thing? "Hyung, what did you—?"

Time to put my acting skills to the test and smooth things over.

"Because..." I immediately intercepted his words. "...I feel so much love inside these dishes that I can’t believe their single. They must really have love in their life, right?"

Okay, I was just talking bullshit, but it made more sense than saying, I would love to get together with them just because they’re a great baker. That would only send them to their early death.

"You can feel it too, right?" I asked Min-Cheol, still trying to smooth things over. "I haven’t tasted anything yet but I can feel it so much that it warms my heart. This must be fate since we both came here together and can feel this love together."

Okay, now that little ending was a wholesome touch that would get even Min-Cheol to drop his guard and he did.

He blushed openly and softly, began to mumble,

"Hyung and I... sharing this love together," he mumbled shyly. "How sweet."

Yup, caught him by the hook.

The girl behind the counter stared at me, clicked her tongue, wondering what kind of nonsense I was spouting, and then forced a smile despite how annoyed she was.

"Well," she interrupted. "I’ll make sure to send your regards to the chef. Now..." It was clear she didn’t like me. "...what and what would you like to have?"

Since I haven’t had breakfast yet, let’s minimize the level of sweets I take. If I have more croissants, milk and chocolate, muffins, macarons, bread, and light cocoa, then that will be great.

"As for cake... I’ll..." I took a quick glance at the cake menu, thinking intensively if the raspberry cake would be better than the velvet. Hm, hard choice. Let’s... "I’ll have them all to go. And yes, a slice of every flavor you have. Thank you."

She was dumbfounded but I simply hummed happily, not caring about her thoughts or the thoughts of anyone else who might’ve heard my order.

"I... I’ll get to it." She said and I nodded.

"Great. How long will that take?"

"Just take a seat and it’ll be brought to your table once it’s done." She said and I was about to turn with Min-Cheol when she stopped us.

"H-hold on." She said and we turned. "You only got to order. What... What about Master Kang?" She asked and I blinked my eyes.

Her intention was so obvious.

It was clear she just wanted to try and strike up a conversation with him, even if he didn’t seem interested. You know, getting the interest of one of the four Alphas, no matter how small and short-lasting that interest is, could be enough to set you for life.

That’s why so many people try, despite the high risk of failure... And even though they might already know the Alpha has a lover. So shameless.

It was clear that we were together, holding hands like this but she still wanted to shoot her shot right in front of me.

How dare she?

"No thanks," I said on behalf of Min-Cheol.

"But I wasn’t asking you. I was asking—"

"Exactly," I cut her short. "Just look at how much I ordered. Do you think I ordered them for myself alone?" Yeah, I did but that doesn’t mean I won’t give Min-Cheol from inside. "He doesn’t want to order so forget about it. Come on, Little Min."

I dragged my man along, letting her know that her chances were slim as long as I was by his side. She could try again, maybe in the next life, and be the protagonist, because in this life, all the ships are sailing and they are about to reach their destination.
