Transmigration; Married to My Ex-Fiancé's Uncle-Chapter 266; Lu Yuze 18
Her own eyes grew heavy, and without meaning to, she let herself drift off as well.
Downstairs, Lu Yuze sat in the sitting area with Ah Ling and Ah Ying, the atmosphere considerably more serious than it had been at dinner.
"Lu Zeyan’s condition remains unchanged," Ah Ling reported, his tone professional and measured. "He continues to repeat the same phrase. The doctors still can’t find any medical explanation for his fixation. And I just heard his condition is deteriorating..."
"And the family?" Lu Yuze asked.
"Several family members are demanding to see you and Miss Yuyan," Ah Ying said. "Lu Zeyan’s wife is admitted in the same hospital, and she possibly can end up having a miscarriage or an abortion if Lu Zeyan’s condition doesn’t get any better... But at the same time, I don’t think your brother would allow her to get an abortion now that Lu Zeyan’s situation is getting complicated..."
"It’s not like that’s the only son he has!" He knew his brothers all had sons, and his sisters the same; everyone wanted that pie of the Lu Conglomerate, and that’s the reason he had separated himself and did things by himself.
"Ooohhh!" Ah Ying wasn’t surprised by their master’s reaction.
"Do you think it’s a coincidence that his situation has suddenly plummeted?" Ah Ling was curious, but at the same time, he felt like this could be Shuyin’s work.
" I don’t know..." Even if he knew who was gonna force him to talk about it?
"The southern branch is also requesting your presence," Ah Ling continued. "There are concerns about the restructuring following yesterday’s... incident." They immediately closed that topic.
"Tomorrow’s schedule?" Lu Yuze asked.
Ah Ying consulted his tablet. "Morning meeting with the board at nine. Lunch meeting with the Zhao Corporation representatives at noon. Conference call with the Singapore branch at three. And your brother has requested a meeting in the evening, he’s threatening to come here if you don’t agree to see him."
"Decline the evening meeting. Reschedule for later in the week, at the office, not here." Lu Yuze’s tone was firm. "This house is off-limits to outside family members until I say otherwise."
"Understood." Ah Ying made a note.
"Anything else requiring immediate attention?"
"The acquisition of the Feng properties is proceeding as planned," Ah Ling said. "Documents should be ready for signature by Thursday. The legal team has also finished reviewing the prenuptial agreement you requested, everything is in order."
Lu Yuze nodded. "Good. What about security?"
"Increased surveillance around the property as you requested," Ah Ying confirmed. "No unusual activity detected. Shadow guards are positioned at all entry points and monitoring the perimeter." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
" I want you to register Chen Xiao’s household registry. And also my will, I need to modify it!" Yes, now he has a wife, who should get a share of his properties too.
"All right," Ah Ling noted down.
They continued discussing various business matters for another twenty minutes or so, contracts, negotiations, potential threats, and security protocols. The conversation was efficient and thorough, covering everything that required Lu Yuze’s attention or decision.
Eventually, the briefing concluded.
"How are you finding the new... family arrangement, Master?" Ah Ling asked, his tone still professional but carrying a hint of genuine curiosity.
Lu Yuze was quiet for a moment. "It’s... different. But it’s good in a different way."
"Miss Yuyan seems happy," Ah Ying observed. "We haven’t seen her, this animated in years."
"She is happy." Lu Yuze’s expression softened slightly. "And that’s what matters."
"The Mistress is quite unusual," Ah Ling said carefully. "Her preferences, her mannerisms... she’s not like anyone we’ve encountered before."
"No," Lu Yuze agreed. "She’s not."
He didn’t elaborate, and neither twin pressed further.
"Will that be all for tonight, Master?" Ah Ying asked.
"Yes. Thank you both. Get some rest."
"Goodnight, Master," they said in unison, standing and bowing slightly before leaving the study.
Lu Yuze sat alone for a few minutes, processing the day’s events and tomorrow’s obligations. Then he stood and made his way upstairs.
He went to Yuyan’s room first, opening the door quietly.
The sight that greeted him made him pause.
Shuyin lay between both children, all three of them fast asleep. Yuyan had curled into her stepmother’s side, one small hand clutching Shuyin’s sleeve. Chen Xiao was on the other side, his face peaceful in sleep, closer to Shuyin.
And Shuyin herself looked utterly relaxed, her breathing deep and even, one arm around each child in an unconsciously protective gesture.
Lu Yuze felt something shift in his chest, something warm and unfamiliar.
He moved quietly to the bed, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to Yuyan’s forehead. "Sleep well, little one," he whispered.
Then he did the same for Chen Xiao, who stirred slightly but didn’t wake. "Welcome home," Lu Yuze murmured.
Finally, he turned his attention to Shuyin. She looked younger in sleep, the sharp edges of her usual composure softened. He studied her for a moment long, this woman who had appeared in his life so suddenly, who fit into his family so seamlessly despite all logic suggesting she shouldn’t, made his heart flutter.
This woman, who was far more than she appeared to be, was his woman now.
Carefully, he slid his arms beneath her and lifted her from the bed. She stirred slightly, making a small sound of protest, but didn’t wake.
"Shh," he soothed, adjusting his hold. "Just moving you to our room."
She settled against his chest with a soft sigh, still deep in sleep.
He carried her down the hall to the master bedroom, her weight comfortable in his arms. Once inside, he lay her gently on the bed and pulled the covers over her.
She immediately curled onto her side, seeking warmth even in sleep.
Lu Yuze changed into his own sleeping clothes, then slid into bed beside her. The moment he settled, she turned toward him instinctively, her body seeking his warmth.
He allowed it, drawing her closer until she was tucked against him, her head resting on his chest.
