Chapter 43: Chapter 43: The Birth of a Legend

"He’s playing with it," one youth stuttered before yelling out as he watched the battle, if it could even be called that anymore.

Ever since the beast had decided to tap into its bloodline, things had taken an unexpected turn.

The young lord had awakened with unimaginable might. And almost instantly after, he could have killed the Sanguine Blood Wolf at any time. But he didn’t.

Was he doing this to show the massive difference in power? Another youth gulped, watching as he tanked an attack with his body and came out of it unharmed.

Whatever the intent behind his actions was, it seemed to have worked out as the beast finally lost it, unable to take it anymore and going fully berserk.

Its strength had grown even more noticeably, but even with all this, the sea of youths behind the black-robed figure couldn’t help but twitch their lips rapidly.

They had a feeling this wouldn’t change the odds of the battle match, which only made them shake their heads, sinking into thought.

From all they had seen, they could even say the wolf would have had an easier time if it had been fighting multiple Peak F-rank beings.

Yet here the young lord was, single-handedly crushing it. Which couldn’t help but make them wonder, to what extent had the young lord’s strength grown?

Their faces clouded with uncertainty just at the thought. But one thing was certain as they stared at the black-robed figure.

It had to be unfathomable.

The figure in question stood calmly, waiting for the Sanguine Blood Wolf as he shook his head slightly

.

Entering this state seemed to have reduced its intelligence exceptionally.

He mused, watching it repeat the attack pattern it had just tried a few minutes ago.

Not that anything it tried would have worked on him.

With his spiritual field, unless his opponent’s strength far exceeded his, it would be extremely difficult to surprise him in battle.

Still, it wouldn’t hurt to spice things up a bit.

He exhaled, watching as the wolf fell straight into his grasp again.

Only this time, he didn’t give it time to react.

Tightening his grasp over it, he inhaled sharply before hurling it into the distance with all his might.

Crimson veins in his body lit up from the energy unleashed across his frame, the hue in his eyes glowing brighter.

The air screamed at the gesture, a shockwave exploding outward. The ground below forming a crater from the force exerted.

Barely a second later, a sickening splat echoed, drawing the full attention of the crowd.

They had barely seen the wolf attack. The next moment, it lay pinned to the wall.

Only this time it was much different.

Echoes of multiple bones cracking could be heard from a distance.

As it slid off, blood covered the wall, even more microfractures spreading across its surface.

The glow from its bloodline was now receding, having reached its limits. From a distance, the Sanguine Wolf looked dead.

But watching the dark-robed youth slowly walk toward it erased that thought instantly.

Surviving an attack of such magnitude was beyond impressive.

And as they watched the dark-robed figure slowly advance, they couldn’t help but feel chills.

Every step he took felt measured and calculated. His body reeked of overwhelming power.

All this couldn’t help but make them feel sorry for the young lord’s future opponents, while also removing themselves entirely from that category.

If anything they had learned from this battle, it was the young lord’s overbearing nature and the massive gulf between them.

Facing the young lord now, or in any foreseeable future, would be no different than courting death.

Arriving before the wolf, Ulric’s eyes fell on its body. Its chest struggled to rise, each breath causing it unimaginable pain.

Blood gurgled from its throat, pained whimpers escaping its maw.

From the odd angle it lay in, he could already surmise it had broken almost every bone in its body.

Seeing its battered body, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sadness creeping up from within. The beast could no longer fight. Marking this the end of their battle.

If he left it like this, he doubted it would live past a few minutes before succumbing to its wounds. But he wouldn’t let it come to that.

Opening his mouth, his voice echoed, carrying to the beast before him and the crowd behind.

"You’ve honoured me with a blood-boiling battle, and for that I shall honour you in turn... with a quick death."

As his words echoed, the air around him slowly churned, darkness beginning to ooze outward.

Extending his hand, the darkness answered his call. Rippling outward before slowly coalescing into a spectral blade extending three metres long, its sharp serrated edges oozing wisps of corruption.

"You’ve fought well," he murmured, feeling the blade land in his palms before he swung down with impeccable force.

The blade cleaved through its neck instantly, sending the beast’s head flying into the air.

Blood sputtered from its headless body, twitching slightly before finally collapsing lifelessly.

[Ding! You have killed a Level 25 Elite Quasi Sanguine Blood Wolf! +50,000 Experience Points!]

Staring at the notification, a faint smile broke across his face as the blade broke into darkness before seeping back into his body.

That was a hell of a lot of experience points.

Made the fight more worthwhile. And as he looked at the notification, his head nodded slightly in understanding.

The beast had already started its evolution toward E-rank, only a small step away. Which explained why it had been so strong.

At the back, the sea of youths stared blankly.

They had already expected such an outcome, but still. A single wave of his blade and he had killed the beast instantly.

All this time, he had been limiting himself.

Was there anything else he had yet to display?

They couldn’t help but wonder. Before slowly, the doubts in their eyes eased as a light of understanding flashed through them.

From everything they had seen, one thing was fully apparent. The young lord didn’t engage in battle simply to level up.

He seemed to relish it. Maybe that’s why he had been holding back. All this summed up as a murmur echoed within the crowd.

"A battle maniac!"

The blaring red light covering the dungeon temporarily receded. The portals cleared back into a familiar shimmering green as the dungeon boss had been cleared.

Yet none of them moved for the exit.

A deafening silence fell as all the youths’ gazes turned toward the lone figure in the arena who had just reshaped their entire perspective.

This battle had been... fulfilling. And more than that. They had just witnessed the birth of a legend.
