Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Limit Break

"Aaargh!" Ulric groaned, dropping to his knees as he felt the overwhelming waves of energy drill into his body.

Crimson veins flared across his body as time slowly slipped by, his lips twitching rapidly.

Maybe dumping them all at once wasn’t as wise as he’d thought it would be. But it was already done.

If any other being had tried to replicate the feat somehow, their bodies would long have been obliterated into pieces.

The only thing keeping him together was his Intermediate Corrupted Mortal Physique.

And even with all this, the strain it placed on his body was massive.

But even with all that, the maniacal smile on his face remained. For he could feel the changes slowly happening within his body.

His very being was literally being reforged, every atom in his body reshaped to hold more power.

And it reflected with every passing second as the crowd stared blankly at the youth in the arena.

One moment he was fighting the Sanguine Blood Wolf on almost equal terms.

The next, he had openly challenged it to unleash its full strength. A bold claim.

As they watched the sigils and runes flaring across the beast’s back blaze even brighter, shrouded in a red sheen of energy.

They had known from the beginning that the beast possessed a bloodline, and at one point in the battle it was bound to use it.

The only unexpected thing was what was unfolding right now.

It seemed that even after everything the young lord had displayed, he still had a hidden trump card he had yet to unleash.

And from the looks of it, it was almost as strong, if not stronger, than that of the Sanguine Blood Wolf.

The thought caused their brows to furrow in confusion. But they didn’t have the chance to sink deeper into their thoughts as a guttural growl slipped from the black-robed youth, who had fallen to his knees.

Instantly after, violent energy burst from his body, spreading across the crowd in a crushing manner.

His body lit up in a resplendent glow, ethereal veins stretching across his frame in a menacing display, pumping untold energy into the kneeling figure.

A few seconds passed as everyone, except a blue-robed maiden, was drenched in sweat.

The aura pressing down on them became unbearable as their breathing grew rapid.

And after a few more seconds, gasps of shock rippled through the crowd as the aura emerging from the figure eclipsed the Blood Wolf’s, yet still continued to grow to terrifying heights.

Sparking outrageous thoughts. This sudden burst of energy could only mean one thing...

He was taking the leap from Peak F-rank to E-rank.

It was the only possible explanation, at least, they consoled themselves with that thought, trying to remain sane.

How else could someone take such a sudden leap in strength without doing anything? But as time slowly passed, that thought was dismissed.

Faint murmurs echoed as the awakened slowly backed away through the dungeon tunnels, trying to escape the reach of the overwhelming aura.

"I don’t think the young lord is advancing to E-rank," one girl in the crowd stuttered. Before another added.

"Yeah... me too. The light of evolution has yet to envelop his body."

Similar murmurs swept across the crowd.

With one thought remaining unspoken as it lingered at the back of their minds, impossible to shake once it had taken root.

He couldn’t be advancing because his aura had already surpassed those of regular E-rank beings.

The thought was madness itself. But the raging aura was undeniable. Having once stood under the weight of the elders of the Greyson family, they could even say that not even some of their auras were as potent as the black-robed figure’s.

Was he using a forbidden technique that would momentarily grant him unimaginable power before leaving him crippled afterward? One youth murmured to himself.

Others repeated after him, trying to make sense of what was happening. Only to be cut short by another wave of explosive energy.

The Sanguine Blood Wolf, previously encapsulated in a blood sheen, had now broken free.

Its transformation complete. Before, it had already been terrifying. But this was just...

Monstrous. Its seven-metre frame was now shrouded in a protective armour stretching across its body in a defensive display.

The sigils and runes across its body blazed brighter than ever. Giving its armour an air of unyielding resilience.

Its claws, the spikes jutting from its back, and the serrated tail swinging behind it glowed more menacingly, exuding a sharp aura.

Hovering above its massive frame, a phantom of another Sanguine Blood Wolf appeared, wisps of energy oozing from it and drilling into the beast.

Causing the crowd to freeze as chills spread through them as they instantly recognized the bloodline.

A physical enhancement bloodline.

Most bloodlines allowed their users to unleash damage attacks at least twice their normal range for a limited time.

Mostly granting one fully loaded attack.

But this... This was bad. Staring at the beast, they couldn’t help but gulp.

Physical Enhancement bloodlines at least doubled the user’s power for a short amount of time.

If used and timed right, the wielder could land multiple attacks in this state before it naturally wore off.

Before, the beast had been menacing.

But the young lord had managed to fight it on equal terms.

What about now? Was this the end?

They could see that even with the terrifying energy seeping from his being, he was still locked in a transformation.

Leaving him open. Any attack in this state would prove especially damaging. And the Sanguine Blood Wolf fully intended to press that advantage.

It could feel the terrifying energy leaking from the human ahead. How he was able to do this, it didn’t know. But that didn’t matter now. It wouldn’t give him any further edge in the battle. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Saliva slowly drooled from its mouth.

It could already imagine the sensation of warm blood. And with a sharp snarl, it charged forward.

Its figure blurred. But to the crowd, it had basically just disappeared. Almost as if it had teleported.

Before, they had already struggled to trace its movements, only seeing outlines of red blurs. Now they saw nothing.

Speaking volumes about the enhancement its bloodline had brought to its body.

The next moment, the figure of the wolf materialized in the air before the young lord.

Swiping down toward his chest.

The mere gesture caused the wind to scream, stirring the dust around them as it exploded outward, blocking their sight. But the sound of collision was undeniable.

A shockwave erupted, spreading for tens of metres. Sending the already retreating crowd a few steps back from the power behind it.

Causing them to suck in cold breaths of air.

But their eyes remained fixed on the battlefield ahead.

Was the young lord dead? Did he manage to block the attack? What had fucking happened?! Multiple thoughts raced through their minds, fueling their curiosity.

And when the dust finally settled, revealing their sight. Their eyes involuntarily widened. Bewildered by what they were seeing.

Of all their thoughts... This was the least expected.
