Transmigrated with my corruption system-Chapter 40: Show Off
Watching from the side, the crowd froze in shock, still reeling from what the dark-robed youth had just muttered.
An attack that should have instantly obliterated even peak-rank warriors had been so easily deflected, only drawing a bit of blood.
"This... I don’t understand," one youth muttered, finally finding his voice.
The young lord was a mage. If they were looking from a logical perspective, he ought to be dead. Yet he still stood stronger than ever.
"He has the physical resilience of a tanker. The strength of a warrior. The destructive capability of a mage..." This was just too much to take in at once.
"I-is there any measure to the young lord’s talent at this point?" one girl stuttered.
Before she was cut off.
"No... this isn’t talent anymore. Even talent couldn’t explain all this, unless..."
"He has a physique!"
"Y-yes, that’s the only explanation..." another youth gulped, his brows furrowing, a wry smile hanging across his face.
Awakening an S-rank talent was already considered monstrous... now with a physique in the equation, the youth grimaced, shaking his head. The heavens really were unfair.
Rows of youths stood locked in thought, contemplating life for a moment. Only snapping out of it when Ulric made his move.
Charging forward, Ulric granted a maniacal smile tracing across his lips. The first clash had flooded his body with adrenaline. Now this was true battle. And he wanted more.
The Sanguine Blood Wolf snarled at the gesture. Did the human disregard its power? Was that why he was openly challenging it?
It didn’t matter now. He was going to pay.
Not backing away, it howled madly. Sprinting forward, its claws dug burrows into the ground with every step. When it closed in, it pounced again, its teeth glowing with a crimson sheen. Ready to snap him in half.
And this time, it wouldn’t let him escape.
Extending both its paws, it made a swiping motion in the youth’s direction. So that no matter what he did, his fate was locked.
Destined to be torn into shreds once their figures clashed.
Seeing the gesture, Ulric accelerated his sprint, a battle plan already forming at the back of his mind.
The Sanguine Blood Wolf seemed a hell of a lot more intelligent than all the foes he had fought before, and that intelligence was creeping into the battle, making it a whole lot more interesting.
Since it was only using pure raw strength, he would retaliate in kind. It wasn’t every day he got strong physical sparring like this.
When he closed in on striking range, his figure leaped into the air, a battle cry slipping from his lips.
"Show me what you can do!"
His fists curled into double barrels, bringing them smashing into the wolf’s snout.
Eliciting a pained howl as he slammed its maw shut.
But doing so left his torso open. An advantage the blood wolf fully seized.
Crashing its claws into his torso as they dug into his ribs.
The force of both attacks unfolding simultaneously sent them both crashing back.
It was a trade of damage. One he was easily willing to take. His body had been flooded with strength so long that he had almost forgotten the sensation of pain.
And now watching as blood slowly trickled down. He let out a mad grin as a yell tore from his lips.
"Again!"
At the side, the crowd watched blankly.
If at first they had been shocked... Now they were downright speechless.
Watching as the young lord clashed with the Sanguine Blood Wolf. Sent crashing back, before repeating the same process as wounds piled across his body.
"What is he doing?" one youth muttered, on the verge of tears.
If this kept going on, he would just accelerate his defeat. If he took on more injuries, the blood loss and wounds would inevitably slow him down. Dooming him to certain death.
And if he died, they were as good as dead as well.
"Young lord... please don’t give up on us... I still want to live!"
"Nonsense! What is life without the young lord? You should consider it an honour to die by the young lord’s side!"
"Honour my ass... I just want to live!"
"Hmm, courting death I see. Let me..."
Just as the murmurs were about to break out into an outrageous tirade. A yell instantly pierced through the crowd, silencing them.
"Wait... something’s not right!"
"With every clash with the dungeon boss, the distance the young lord is sent back is reducing... almost as if he is improving mid-battle."
Multiple gulping sounds echoed as they processed the situation. Their concentration on the battle heightened.
Before their eyes widened in realization.
The injuries piling across Ulric’s body had almost come to a halt.
Now he was almost easily dodging while landing attacks of his own. The longer they stared, the clearer it became as a terrifying thought bloomed at the back of their heads.
Was the young lord using the Sanguine Blood Wolf to forge himself?
The thought was preposterous. But at the beginning, his battle style had been raw and unrefined.
His only goal being to deal damage, which led to him tanking a lot himself. But now it had slowly grown. There was a certain grace to it. And as they continued staring, the less it looked like a battle. Melding instead into an intricate dance.
"T-this..." Cedric muttered, his face twisting with multiple emotions until he couldn’t hold it anymore, cursing out loud.
"What kind of bullshit was this?"
He understood fully well that their survival depended on the figure ahead. But at this point, the hope burning in his eyes was slowly dimming.
As a thought took root he was unable to shake. If Ulric fell in battle, condemning them all to certain death. Then it would at least be better than unleashing such a monster into the world.
It was only now that he was seeing the full potential of the figure. And it far outstripped him. The thought that he had once considered him his arch-nemesis was just laughable.
A single flick of his fingers and he would be instantly defeated. The thought only causing him to sink deeper and deeper into depression.
What was the point of growing stronger if such monsters existed?
Unaware of the raging emotions he had stirred from the crowd behind him, Ulric chuckled, his satisfaction growing with every second.
While others saw his growth and adapting ability as monstrous. He saw it as clear and calculated. His already heightened senses helped him by a big margin.
But even that wasn’t enough, as he mostly relied on his spiritual field. Having dumped quite a lot of attributes into spirit, everything within a twenty-metre radius was clear as day.
His instincts sharpened to terrifying levels.
His mind refreshed with clarity. All he needed was to integrate it into his combat style. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
And the battle with the Sanguine Blood Wolf had proven especially useful.
He had just needed an edge to push things into place. And now that he did, everything had become especially clear.
The battle flowing much more smoothly and easily. Based on its charge, he could already simulate the attack the beast would deploy.
So when it stepped into the twenty-metre range. He remained still.
When it crossed the ten-metre mark. He smiled, muttering inwardly. Tail slice.
And true to that, when it crossed the five-metre range, its monstrous body suddenly flipped, swinging the blade at him.
Aiming to slice him in half.
Extending his hands, he slapped them down over the bottom, yanking the wolf before tossing it away, sending it crashing.
Seeing the results, he smiled. Finally shameless enough to say it. With this control over his spiritual field. This was the beginning of his journey as a battle grandmaster.
Satisfied with the results, his voice echoed, carrying to the Sanguine Blood Wolf and the crowd behind him.
"Let’s end this. Once and for all."
The wolf seemed to agree. Prowling around, its crimson gaze falling on the human.
He had proved far stronger than it expected.
Even almost coming close to matching it in strength.
It had to crush him before he could grow stronger mid-battle as he was doing.
With that thought in mind, it let out a howl.
The sigils racing across its fur flared in response, burning with a resplendent crimson light.
At the sight, murmurs erupted from the crowd.
"Holy shit! Look, the beast is about to use its bloodline!"
They had been watching the battle unfold, entranced as the dark-robed figure slowly improved to rival the wolf. And at the end, it even appeared as if he was almost defeating it.
Would this new change reverse all of that?
Just as they were sinking into worry, another yell echoed.
"Look! The young lord is also doing something... he’s closing his eyes?"
One youth muttered.
"What the hell is he doing?"
Filtering the voices from the crowd, Ulric exhaled slowly as he stretched out his hands.
Slowly, darkness seeped out of his body.
Spreading to cover the whole arena. But he guided it toward the remnants of the corpses strewn across the ground, issuing the darkness to devour them.
[Ding! Your darkness has devoured a level 25 Elite Golden Wolf. +25 blank attribute!]
[...]
Repeating until he was done, he stared at the total sum combined from before.
[Unallocated attributes: 297]
His biggest haul yet. Enough attributes equal to multiple Peak F-rank beings. He dumped them all into his constitution.
Time to push his body to the limits.
But he wasn’t done yet. Tapping into the innate skill his physique had birthed, one he had been suppressing all along.
[Corrupted Tempest!]
(Corruption is power, and power is glory. When fighting against stronger opponents, gain a five percent boost across all stats for a brief moment.)
With all this in play, sigils lit up across his body in a brilliant display. Splendiferous energy coiling across his body as waves of power flushed across his robe.
As all this unfolded, a terrifying aura seeped out of his being. Spreading everywhere as choked gasps slipped out from the crowd struggling to breathe.
"Wait... why does he suddenly look a hell of a lot stronger than the blood wolf?"
"He couldn’t have been holding back all this time... right? RIGHT?!"
At the side, a blue-robed maiden watched the whole battle unfold. The only one unaffected by the aura.
Her lips twitching rapidly. Until she couldn’t hold it anymore. Pouting.
"Show off."
