Chapter 107: The Hidden Catacombs [ 9 ]

[You have consumed: x4 Special Ability Core]

[You have gained: Mystic Eyes of Perception]

Staring at the Special Ability, I was slightly confused.

Mystic Eyes of Perception?

I knew about Mystic Eyes, since Kevin had them near the end game.

Though he had the Mystic Eyes of Foresight that let him see a few seconds into the future.

But even so... does that mean I got something on the same level as him, just many years ahead of schedule?

I could barely contain my excitement.

I wanted to test it right away.

As I glanced around, I could see five traces of white energy.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out that the energy belonged to the Reapers.

So I poured my focus into that energy, and to my surprise, my vision traveled along the energy.

My vision was surprisingly clear, and I could see everything around me, as well as travel between the five traces of white energy freely.

Though eventually, I arrived at the end of the traces.

Each one led to the spots where the Reapers died.

I willed myself to go backward, and I actually began moving back through the white energy traces.

The traces led back to the area where Clementine and I were, and then the traces went up out of the Catacombs.

They moved through the whole forest, several nearby cities, an underground sewage system... the ocean, and lastly, the traces cut off right as they reached the port of the third and final continent.

The Western continent.

It was the largest continent in the whole world, and its rules were a lot more strict than the Elodrenia continent and the Skyward continent.

In fact, Gift usage without permission would get one in really serious trouble.

But it seemed like the Evangelists operated from that continent, and the rules didn’t apply to them.

Still, it sucked that I couldn’t see further.

But what more could I expect from a skill that was still at level 1?

Regardless of that, I closed my eyes, allowing my vision to return back to me.

And when I reopened my eyes, I immediately opened my status screen, poured the 100 Free Stat Points straight into my Vitality, and checked out my progress.

The increases were nothing short of amazing.

The Mystic Eyes of Perception literally gave me around 75 stat points, plus whatever else I got after the fight.

And with my Vitality taking a big leap... I was now almost a Grade 40.

More importantly, the Demon King of Wrath’s Blood leveled up significantly, which meant I was now on the right track.

And seeing how overpowered my Gifts could become under its influence, I needed to practice when I’m back.

Anyhow...

"What did you get?" Clementine asked, leaning in front of me.

"A really overpowered eye ability. I can track energy across long distances, so as long as I can find a trace of something, I’ll be able to locate its source."

I was now basically the greatest detective in the world.

Easily.

"Oh... That sounds convenient. I hope I get something good too."

I chuckled.

"I hope so too."

With that, Clementine and I exchanged a few words until finally, she popped all four of the dark marbles into her mouth and closed her eyes.

My new eyes immediately picked up on the energy in her chest as it began to wildly expand.

I knew she was in a lot of pain now.

Yet Clementine didn’t even flinch once.

Rather, she began taking calm breaths.

Though I did as well at first.

It only took her a couple of minutes before she had to lay down and breathe heavily as she fought against the energy inside her.

I placed her head on my thighs as I gently stroked her hair and hummed an ordinary song from my old world.

The minutes seemed to go by quickly.

And with her holding on, eventually, the 30 minutes were up as the energy in her chest finally entered her heart and settled down.

A few moments later, she opened her eyes.

She looked a little disoriented at first.

But then, after she checked her own status screen, she met my gaze and relaxed.

"Looks like I got something good too."

She raised her hand and smirked.

In an instant, her whole hand was encased in clear, yet extremely dense diamonds.

Noticing my shock, she slammed her hand down into the floor.

BOOOOOOOOM!

The floor cracked as the runes surrounding us began to fizzle out of control.

And it didn’t take long for the whole Catacombs floor to break.

RUMBLE!

The door leading down to the next floor opened.

But with her having already cleared everything... it was useless.

Still, as I stared at her diamond arm, I was thoroughly shocked.

There were variations of Passive Special Abilities and Active Special Abilities.

Every single Special Ability I had was pretty much a passive.

Whereas whatever she got was an Active Special Ability.

And not only was it as good as a Gift, it was incredibly rare.

But almost like that wasn’t already shocking, Clementine suddenly stood up, and then covered her whole body in diamonds.

She didn’t have even a single weak point.

Though after she was done showing off, she turned back to normal and smiled at me.

"Hehe... It’s good, isn’t it? It’s called Diamond Skin, and I can cover any part of my body in diamonds."

After a brief pause, I snapped out of it.

"Yeah... You pretty much have the ultimate defense now. If you can somehow get the shock absorption sorted, you’ll pretty much be immune to physical attacks."

She nodded and crossed her arms victoriously.

"I suppose we both got something good, didn’t we? But now what? The Reapers are dead and we looted this whole place. Won’t this mess with the future events?"

"Oh, I’m sure it will."

But it wasn’t bad.

Kevin might not have the sword, but there’s another party who won’t have something...

"You getting the Soul Sewing Needle basically makes the Evangelists less important to us. They’re still a big threat, but I’m sure this has put a massive wrench in their plans."

She clearly realized that too.

So she just listened as I began to list a few possibilities.

Though sometime down the line, I realized that she was just staring at my face instead of listening.

Rolling my eyes, I walked up to her and ruffled her hair a little.

Clementine pouted and started gently pounding my chest.

It was nice that we got this sorted.

And for the next few days, we wouldn’t have anything to do.

Once the week was up, we’d go back to the Assassin’s Guild.

It was about time I asked for a request that had something to do with high-ranked demons.

I needed to find the other catalysts and get rid of them.

With my new Mystic Eyes, this should be much easier now.

But until then, I had a lot of training to do.

And of course... I needed to find some dragon bones to make a ring for Clementine.

"Alright, my little shut-in, how about we go buy you some more of that manga?"

Her ears turned red immediately.

"W-What are you talking about?"

I rolled my eyes.

"I’m going to be busy training for the next two or three days with the Eldritch Monster. I would take you along, but I don’t want it invading your brain. Though I’m open to ideas if you have any better way to spend your time. So?"

We both stared into each other’s eyes for a few moments.

But Clementine’s embarrassment only grew.

That was until she finally looked down and clenched her fists.

"F-Fine. I suppose I’ll let you hand-pick the manga. But only because you insist."

"Mhm."

"Sure."
