Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 211: A Special Time
The next day happened to be Saturday. Early in the morning, Ding Ancheng went to the kitchen to cook. The three brothers of the Yi family were returning to the Wan Tang Production Team this morning, so they got up early too to help Ding Ancheng. After eating, they went to the bus station.
The three brothers did not start discussing yesterday’s events until they walked out of County First Middle School.
"Don’t mention anything about our little sister when we get back home," Yi Weimin said. "No need to upset mom."
"I really feel like going over to their house," Yi Weiliang said, having slept badly last night. He couldn’t stand anyone bullying his sister.
"The school’s leadership has already come and said they’ll make a personal apology at our door. If we hit the other guy, then we’d be in the wrong," Yi Weijun pointed out.
"That’s exactly why I held back," Yi Weiliang said with a stern face. "We need to work hard. Only when our family is strong can we protect our sister better."
"Weiliang, I heard there’s a spot for promotion later this year, and Director Niu plans to nominate you. Is that true?" Yi Weijun asked, eyes full of anticipation.
"Director Niu mentioned it to me; it’s almost certain," Yi Weiliang said.
"I can now drive out of the factory. I’ve familiarized myself with the nearby counties and the city’s roads. A while ago, I even ventured to the neighboring cities. Once I’m familiar with all the roads in Jiang Province, I can start driving interstate routes."
"Many people compete for interstate routes because they can earn extra money. Once I’m promoted, I’d like to apply for interstate routes too. Though it’s tough, the pay is good," Yi Weiliang shared his plans.
"Second brother, you haven’t got the hang of driving yet. I’ll teach you all I know now. Anyone who can drive should know a bit about car repair, and I’m pretty good at it."
Yi Weijun smiled and nodded, feeling a shared sense of pride. "A lot of people have praised you for your diligence since you arrived, saying you’re naturally gifted at driving. You catch on quickly with car repairs, and many veteran mechanics see potential in you."
"Though I don’t have your talent, I’ll work hard at it, second brother," Yi Weimin said, looking fondly at his loving brothers, a smile on his face.
"Big brother, how are things going at the power plant? While my brother and I can look out for each other at the same factory, there you are..." Yi Weijun said apologetically, feeling guilty about the situation caused by his wife’s words leaving his brother on his own.
"I’m doing fine," Yi Weimin replied honestly. "It’s all thanks to Ancheng and our sister. Even if people at the power plant don’t like me, they’re polite at least."
"And there’s Anguo’s connection. I was shocked to learn Anguo’s partner is the daughter of the power plant’s director’s family."
The information was new to both Yi Weijun and Yi Weiliang, and they responded with equal amazement.
"We’ve been relying on our sister’s in-laws too much. We truly need to do well not to let her down," Yi Weimin earnestly stated.
Yi Roujing remained unaware that yesterday’s incident inspired her brothers to greater resolve. At the moment, she yawned and enjoyed her breakfast of fried eggs, porridge, and fried dough sticks.
After breakfast, Ding Ancheng accompanied Yi Roujing to the county hospital. It was what Yi Roujing preferred; otherwise, a visit to the staff hospital would quickly spread rumors about a possible pregnancy throughout the place.
It being Saturday, the hospital wasn’t crowded. Ding Ancheng found her a seat on a wooden bench and went to register her himself.
Attractive young men like him drew a few more glances, and when Ding Ancheng mentioned registering for obstetrics, even more eyes were on him. Some men looked on with disdain, while women were envious of this exceptional man, fetching his wife’s appointment in obstetrics.
Today, Doctor Zhang from the obstetrics department was on duty, and she recognized Yi Roujing immediately. She remembered well that Yi Roujing had saved Hu Heping, who had been her patient at the time, and whose emergency treatment was reported to the hospital director.
"Comrade Yi Roujing, do you remember me?" Doctor Zhang said excitedly to Yi Roujing. "The emergency method you used on Comrade Hu Heping was endorsed by our hospital. After trials, its feasibility is recognized. We’ve reported it to the municipal office, and once approved, this effective emergency method can be promoted."
Yi Roujing expressed surprise, though she found it reasonable, recalling Doctor Zhang fondly as someone truly caring about the public. "That’s wonderful," she replied.
"Comrade Yi Roujing, you should meet our director later. Oh, my memory! It’s Saturday." Doctor Zhang chuckled, "When are you available? Our hospital wants to commend you."
"I..."
"Doctor, we’re here for a check-up today," Ding Ancheng reminded from the side.
"Oh, yes, I’m getting ahead of myself," Doctor Zhang apologized and then paused upon seeing Ding Ancheng, having not noticed him before. He was quite striking.
"Is this your partner, Roujing?" Doctor Zhang smiled, "You two make a perfect match, you’re both so striking."
Ding Ancheng inexplicably felt better, introducing himself, "I am Jing’s husband."
"Doctor Zhang, Jing’s period is four days late. We came today to check if she might be pregnant," Ding Ancheng explained.
"Four days late? Is she usually regular? When was her last period?" Doctor Zhang asked.
"She’s on a 27-day cycle, very regular. Last month it started on the 9th," Ding Ancheng replied promptly, making Yi Roujing blush slightly.
Doctor Zhang paused too, looking at him with admiration, "Such a good husband. This is the first time I’ve seen a husband know his wife’s cycle so well."
Doctor Zhang gestured for Yi Roujing to extend her hand for pulse reading. "The pulse is still weak, but there’s a slippery quality. Return later; if the period still hasn’t come, it’s likely pregnancy."
Yi Roujing had tried taking her pulse too, but, unlike with others, she found herself less confident determining it for herself due to subjectivity.
"Doctor, is there anything we should be aware of?" Ding Ancheng asked thoroughly.
"Avoid intercourse and heavy labor, but there’s no need to be overly cautious. Just carry on as usual," Doctor Zhang advised with a smile. "As it progresses, I’ll use a stethoscope for a checkup." Doctor Zhang chuckled.
There was no ultrasound yet, and prenatal examinations were not customary. Yi Roujing understood this, but faced with reality, she felt it was rudimentary; medical technology surely needed a boost.
"In a while, after it’s confirmed, we can tell our parents," Yi Roujing said as they left the hospital.
"Okay," Ding Ancheng agreed, reaching to hold her hand, attracting looks from passersby.
Yi Roujing turned to look at Ding Ancheng.
"It’s a special time, and besides, we are a married couple," Ding Ancheng said, face calm though his ears went red, amusing Yi Roujing. He was something else.
