Chapter 185: Chapter 185: The Fight Incident

When Ding Ancheng and Yi Roujing got on the tractor, it was loaded with many things, mostly vegetables, and a big, round watermelon.

Ding Xiaoding said it was given by the villagers, grown in their private plots, a token of their goodwill, though it couldn’t compare to the wild boar meat; after all, vegetables cost money in the city too.

"Take it slow, Shengwu," Ding Xiaoding called out to Ding Shengwu, who was driving the tractor, before leaving.

"Teacher Ding, you’re really amazing, going up the mountain and hunting a wild boar. It’s this," Ding Shengwu gave Ding Ancheng a thumbs-up before starting the engine.

Ding Ancheng humbly said a few words and stopped speaking.

Ding Shengwu drove them to the place where the communes’ buses depart, helped them load the things on the bus, and then left. By the time they arrived at the county station, it was dinner time.

Ding Anguo was waiting at the station entrance, and he tied the stuff they brought onto the bicycle to take it home.

"What happened to the corner of your mouth? Did you get into a fight?" Ding Ancheng noticed the bruising and broken skin on Ding Anguo’s left mouth corner, clearly a result of being hit.

"Ran into a lunatic," Ding Anguo frowned, recalling yesterday’s events, his gaze naturally shifting to Yi Roujing.

Yi Roujing felt a bit strange and pointed at herself, "What’s it got to do with me if you got into a fight?"

"It was Feng Lishu, that coworker of sister-in-law," Ding Anguo admitted, pushing the bicycle home while recounting the events from the previous day’s movie outing.

"Yesterday, six of us had lunch at a state-run restaurant, then went to the cinema. After an hour and a half of the movie, Anmin and the others went to the restroom, and I waited at the cinema entrance with Feng Lishu."

"A guy showed up, glaring at me with bloody eyes, and before I knew it, he punched me. Isn’t he a lunatic?"

"I didn’t even know him or do anything wrong. Why did he hit me? So I hit him back, and he wasn’t as strong as I am; it didn’t take long for me to beat him to the ground."

"Later, he started blurting out dirty words, and that’s when I realized he knew Feng Lishu."

"I initially thought he was her boyfriend, assumed he misunderstood, so I tried explaining, but he didn’t appreciate it, and his words got even filthier."

Ding Anguo paused here, his ears suspiciously red.

Yi Roujing, who had been colleagues with Feng Lishu for some time, knew her well; that girl certainly wouldn’t let herself suffer, especially if she had intentions towards Ding Anguo. Did she take action yesterday?

"Don’t hem and haw, just continue," Ding Ancheng, seeing his brother acting clueless, reminded him.

"Turns out he wasn’t Feng Lishu’s boyfriend, just a suitor who liked her, but she was tired of him and scolded him harshly."

"Later, she linked her arm with mine, calling me her boyfriend, saying that guy’s actions were undermining a relationship, acting as an immoral third party."

Now, Ding Anguo’s face was also red, but his eyes held a faint confusion. He turned to Ding Ancheng and sincerely asked, "Big Brother, since she said that, should I take responsibility for her? No, no, rather, should she be responsible for me? She undermined my reputation, and I don’t even have a girlfriend yet."

"Pfft——" Yi Roujing burst into laughter.

"Think for yourself, whether you want to be responsible or be held responsible," Ding Ancheng sighed, "or just let this incident pass. As long as you see less of that female comrade, people will naturally forget, and it won’t affect you finding a partner later. After all, it’s not the truth."

Ding Anguo slightly lowered his head, "Big Brother, but what about Feng Lishu? Her reputation matters more since she’s a girl. What if this ruins her reputation?"

"That’s her choice to make," Ding Ancheng calmly replied.

"Big Brother, then why did you agree to marry Sister-in-law back then?" Ding Anguo suddenly asked quietly.

"Because I was willing," Ding Ancheng glared at his brother before turning to softly reassure Yi Roujing, "Let’s go home and ignore this blockhead."

"I’m not angry," Yi Roujing found it somewhat amusing; what Ding Anguo said was true and had been explained by Ding Ancheng back then anyway. Knowing Ding Ancheng prefers her as she is now was enough for her.

"I’ll braise pork trotters for you tonight," Ding Ancheng secretly held Yi Roujing’s hand, smiling warmly.

"Sister-in-law, I didn’t mean it like that. I just wanted to know what my brother was thinking back then," Ding Anguo said apologetically.

Yi Roujing smiled and replied, "I know, I know your temperament. Let’s have a good talk with your brother later and have him explain it to you."

No wonder Ding Anmin has always worried about Ding Anguo’s dating affairs; the guy isn’t very sharp. Of course, she also knew Ding Anguo had no disrespectful intentions toward her; he never acted that way in the three months after they got married, let alone now.

"Big Brother, Sister-in-law, you’re back," Ding Anmin opened the door, happy to see Ding Ancheng and Yi Roujing.

"Sister-in-law, there’s still some change left from the money you gave," Ding Anmin handed over a banknote, saying, "Did Second Brother tell you about his fight?"

"He did," Yi Roujing nodded, "I’ve seen that person before; his name is Liao Shiqi, definitely doesn’t seem like a good person, an office deputy director at the power plant."

"He’s been pestering Feng Lishu; she’s not interested in him. I’m not sure whether he likes Lishu or her dad’s role as the plant manager, but he always poses as her boyfriend, which is annoying."

"Her dad is the power plant manager?" Ding Anmin exclaimed, "Never would have guessed."

Feng Lishu was hardworking, a good cook, and interacted with people without any airs. Ding Anmin always assumed she was just an ordinary girl; to learn her dad is the plant manager was a surprise.

"Then there’s a good chance he’s interested in her dad," Ding Anmin quickly labeled Liao Shiqi.

"Feng Lishu said Liao Shiqi’s father is the County Ge Committee’s director," Yi Roujing said, slightly furrowning. Currently, the Ge Committee holds significant power, and while they can’t cause any substantial harm if they hold a grudge, it’s certainly bothersome if they keep creating minor troubles for you.

"Even his father’s powerful, huh? Then I better not comment," Ding Anmin said in surprise, "But attraction is mutual. If Lishu doesn’t like him, then why doesn’t he find someone he likes and who likes him back? I don’t get it."

"Oh, Mom asked us to take something to Xiaobao. You and Anguo should ride over and deliver it now," Yi Roujing said.

"Okay, Sister-in-law," Ding Anguo responded promptly to Yi Roujing’s words, then took Ding Anmin to the county government staff housing building.

At the power plant staff dormitory, Feng Guolun and his wife Ruan Qingru sat on the living room sofa, looking at their daughter Feng Lishu, who stood in front of them with a stubborn expression; the couple felt somewhat helpless.
