Transmigrated as a Ghost-Chapter 1150 Clash of Magic and Will
"Soul Burst."
Knowing that he would be unable to do anything to stop Gronex's tier ten spell with his current level of power, Marcus did not hesitate to activate the trump card he had been holding onto.
Lyra had told him to restrain himself from doing so while Gronex was still using his Supreme Skill since he would be unable to beat the ancient dragon even if he went all out.
Still, he could not just let such a devastating spell be unleashed here. Too many people would die if he did.
'Roxene, I'm going to need your help blocking this, but hold off on your own Soul Burst for a bit longer if you can. You're going to need to be the one to finish him.'
Originally the two of them were supposed to have tried to hold out until the end and take Gronex out together with their full power once the Lava' Dragon's Supreme Skill had faded.
However, they already knew that plan was unlikely to come to fruition. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Gronex was too powerful to take lightly. Thinking that they could both get away without using Soul Burst was a pipedream from the start.
'To suppress a tier ten spell, I'm going to need something of equal power. And Dark Matter is the only thing that I've got.'
He could also use light magic's tier ten spell, but it was solely an augmentation type spell that would make the caster significantly faster and stronger.
Considering the situation, it was not practical to use, especially since it used too much mana for Marcus to sustain it for very long in the first place and his control over it was unstable.
Of course, his use of the Dark Matter spell was far from perfect either.
Its actual function was not meant to be one large attack of immense force, but a controlled manifestation.
'I've never been able to properly activate it, but maybe now with my extra boost from Soul Burst, I finally can.' Marcus thought, channeling the mana throughout his body into his hands.
From behind him, Roxene began preparing for her own counter measures. She would not be able to produce anything quite as powerful as Marcus, but every little bit would help.
Soon Gronex's supernova spell reached its critical point.
The once gargantuan ball of fire had been compressed down to the size of a large bead.
With all of energy packed into such a small area, the release was bound to be unthinkably explosive.
Without any more time to prepare himself, Marcus cast his Dark Matter spell.
Whether he was able to fully control it or not, it was now or never.
"Grahhhh!"
Marcus shouted as he forced himself to control the immense energy that he was conjuring.
He felt his arms start to crack, but he could not focus and ounce of his power on recovery.
While everything seemed to be moving in slow-motion as his concentration heighted to greater heights than ever before, Gronex's supernova spell was already rapidly expanding to engulf everything in its path.
Just moments before he was Marcus was consumed by the raging inferno; a single dot of pure darkness appeared in front of him.
Instead of an uncontrollable blast of energy, he had managed to truly manifest the spell as intended.
From there he rapidly grew the size of the magic. Molding its form as he envisioned.
It looked like a thin sheet of blackness suddenly formed and spread out over the burst of flames that had been rapidly expanding.
No light was able to escape from the cloak created by the Dark Matter spell, but Marcus could feel it still being pushed back by the sheer intensity of Gronex's magic.
They were both casting tier ten spells, but there was a fast gulf in their levels.
Earlier when Marcus had attempted to match Gronex's magic with his own, he was hopelessly overpowered by the ancient Lava Dragon.
'It won't be the same this time though.' Marcus thought pushing himself to the point that his form started to crumble away.
However, as the human shell he often wore broke away, it was replaced only by a nebulous form that was close to a rippling sphere.
His entire existence compressed into the size of a ball that could be held in a single hand.
The main part of his new form contained only darkness just as deep as the what the Dark Matter spell had created, with a glowing ring of light around him. Given Marcus' current form an appearance almost akin to a black hole.
That was not to say that he was drawing everything towards him, just that he had become a being that was fully spiritual without any distinct physical characteristics.
With his entire focus on the magic he had conjured, Marcus had taken on the most basic form of a spirit. Just a clump of elemental and spiritual energy.
This allowed him to not waste energy on anything superfluous.
There were no thoughts going through his mind, only the goal of stopping the cataclysm before him remained.
The two great powers fought against each other for nearly a minutes before the cracks in Marcus' sheet of Dark Matter began to crack.
It had been expanding this entire time and was close to reaching its limits. Though he had gone even further beyond his limits, Marcus' full strength could still not match up to Gronex's.
Yet, this is where Roxene came in.
When she noticed a breach beginning to form, she would rush over and blast the escaping flames back with her own darkness magic.
Her spells' potency paled in comparison to what Marcus had conjured, but it was enough to reinforce his.
Over the next thirty seconds the two of them worked together to contain Gronex's Supernova.
In the end, the curtain of Dark Matter burst from the pressure and flames began to spill out.
However, they were heavily diminished and traveled for less than two kilometers in every direction before petering out.
Marcus and Roxene had successfully stopped Gronex's strongest attack.
