Transmigrated as a Ghost-Chapter 1149 Desperate Struggle to Buy Time
'F*ck, that could have been really bad.' Marcus thought as the Ecto Duplicate he had created was destroyed.
At first, he had planned on enlarging himself to draw Gronex's attention and take the dragon on, but thought better of doing so.
He was not quite sure exactly how powerful the gigantic Lava Dragon would be now that he was boosted by a Supreme Skill.
Erring on the side of caution, he had created a copy of himself and had it grow to enormous size.
This had taken no small amount of spiritual energy to accomplish, but at least Marcus now had a better grasp of the strength Gronex currently wielded.
Unfortunately, he still had no idea how to stall the ancient mythic beast for another four and a half minutes.
'He's not playing around at all anymore. Every one of his attacks are clearly meant to kill.' Marcus thought, a grim expression on his face.
Marcus was currently hiding underground, observing the situation through another Ecto Duplicate he had left behind.
However, while his mind was racing and only around three seconds had passed since his supposed destruction, Gronex had locked onto his next target.
As per Lyra's instructions, Quillon was trying to gain some distance to avoid being targeted by their current opponent, but there just had not been enough time.
He had already gotten several kilometers away, though that was a distance a high-level dragon could cover incredibly quickly.
'I've faced down my fair share of hard fights, but this one really might be taking the top spot by the end of this.'
Before Gronex could take off after Quillon, Marcus flew out of a Dark Portal he had set above the area in advance and fired darkness drill spell down at the dragon.
The spell never even reached the Lava Dragon before being erased by the fire surrounding him. Nothing short of a tier eight spell would even be able to breach the powerful crimson flames, and even then, the attack would likely do hardly anything and be healed nearly instantly.
Still, all Marcus wanted to do was get Gronex to stay focused on him.
"More stupid tricks." Gronex growled as his eye glowed gold.
After Lyra had hit him with feedback from her necrotic energy, he had refrained from using his Dragon Eyes ability on the off chance that she had hidden herself as an illusion of whatever he was appraising.
But it seemed now that Gronex had activated his Supreme Skill, he was no longer worried about this.
To make sure that the Marcus that had just appeared was the real deal and not just another duplicate, he had taken the risk.
Of course, Marcus understood what this meant and immediately activated his Light Speed Movement skill to get away.
An instant later, the spot he had been in was swallowed by a giant blaze of fire from a tier nine spell Gronex had cast.
'Oh sh*t!'
Practically as soon as he became material again after transforming into light, Marcus watched as a series of ten kilometers tall and two kilometer wide pillars of lava were coming right for him.
It was a practically apocalyptic scene to watch, and he only just barely got away by jumping into a Dark Portal at the last second.
When he came out of the other end, there was no time for rest.
Gronex had sensed the disturbance in space and was rushing over like a rocket. He was really determined to kill them all now and it showed from his lack of concern for the damage to area around them.
'Roxene, I could use some help now!' Marcus transmitted to his first beast companion over telepathy.
He was barely avoiding Gronex's assault by utilizing his two movement unique skills, but every time he used one of them to get away Gronex got a better read on how they worked.
And while Marcus could have just left the area entirely and escaped outside of the area that Gronex could follow him, that would leave his friends alone to face the Lava Dragon's wrath.
"AWOOOOO!"
A moment after Marcus' plea for help, a loud howl resounded through the surroundings.
Following it, a giant pillar of darkness descended from the sky and slammed into Gronex.
This was Roxene's Howl of Night unique skill.
It was an attack that packed quite a bit of power into it and was enhanced right now because it was nighttime.
Since activating his Supreme Skill, Gronex was finally affected by a strike.
He was unable to stay airborne as the blast of darkness slammed into him and he was pushed into the ground below.
Marcus took this moment to regain his bearings and began preparing some spells. While Roxene's attack had slowed the ancient mythic beast down, it was not going to last for long.
Soon the enormous pillar of Darkness faded and revealed an unharmed and furious Lava Dragon.
A cacophonous roar erupted from his mouth as Gronex raised his head towards the sky.
An unfathomable amount of mana began coalescing around him to the point that it became fully visible without the need of any skills.
It was so powerful that the space around Gronex looked like it was beginning to warp.
"Supernova."
A colossal ball of white flames that was easily over thirty kilometers in diameter formed above Gronex and then rapidly began shrinking.
Marcus recognized this spell since it was one that he expected to learn eventually. This was the tier ten fire magic spell and one of the most destructive magic attacks in the entire world.
With the power that Gronex was wielding it with, it would be possible to destroy a small nation in one go.
Marcus knew that they were currently somewhere in Tralenstein, fortunately an uninhabited part of it deep in the wilderness.
However, if Gronex was allowed to unleash this spell, there was a very real possibility that it could reach the closets settlements and kills thousands if not millions of people.
