Transmigrated as a Ghost-Chapter 1147 Turning the Tides of Battle (5)
For the first time in his life, Gronex learned what it meant to feel like his entire body was being burned.
There were many times in his past when he had utterly incinerated other creatures with either flames or magma. Never once paying any mind to the agony that they must have felt in their last moments.
Of course, how could he relate. Being a Lava Dragon, Gronex was immune to almost all forms of fire and heat.
Yet now his entire form was engulfed in dark flames that could hurt him.
He may not have been being burned in the traditional sense, with Lyra’s Underworld Flames destroying his vitality instead of incinerating his flesh. Still, the sensation of the pain was quite similar, so Gronex was not wrong in his comparison.
For a moment he considered activating his Supreme Skill to turn the tide, but his pride would not let him do so.
’I can endure this. I won’t go all out against a group of mere playthings.’ Gronex thought, strengthening the mana protecting his body and fighting against Lyra’s flames.
He had started this battle for his own enjoyment, and he never once believed he would need to use his trump card.
That would mean acknowledging the creatures that he saw as below him posed a significant threat to his life.
He knew that none of them were even within ten levels of him. There was no way that he ever should have been on the backfoot no matter what skills and abilities they possessed.
Being an ancient dragon over level ninety, Gronex was one of the strongest entities on Mirrion. There were only a few that could compare, and even fewer that could be considered definitively stronger.
Eventually, Lyra’s assault began to die down and the dark flames that had been consuming him dissipated.
The aftermath of Lyra’s all-out attack was gruesome.
The once resplendent scales that covered Gronex’s body had all turned jet-black and in many places were falling off from having decayed.
His flesh and muscle underneath had not been spared either. In many areas his veins had shriveled up and turned dark, and the skin had become a ghastly gray color.
In some places his bones had been revealed and the membranes that covered his wings had all completely disappeared. Giving him the appearance of being half dead or even looking a bit like a dragon reanimated as a zombie.
Nevertheless, Gronex still possessed a great amount of strength within him, and his heavy injuries were already starting to regenerate.
As for Roxene’s Supreme Sill that was restraining him, he could feel its power beginning to wane as he struggled against it.
Soon he would free himself and go on the attack again. Not allowing Marcus and his companions to obtain any more openings to do as they pleased.
However, while he was still stuck in place, the next phase of the counterattack Lyra had planned began.
She was nearly out of energy after giving her all into unleashing the full force of her Underworld Flame, but Quillon’s strike that he had been charging up was now ready to be unleashed.
While Lyra had been blasting Gronex, Quillon had positioned himself above the Lava Dragon. Right at the edge of Roxene’s Supreme Skill so that he would not get caught up in it.
This meant that he was too far away for his sword to reach his target, but that would be no issue for the attack he was about to use.
"Ten Greatest Techniques, Absolute Field."
With his sword held in front of him, Quillon pulled it out of its sheath slowly and slashed downwards in the air.
From his movements, this strike did not appear to be too impressive.
Though his blade was filled to the brim with mana, its speed was slow and lacking in anything special. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Except, there was no need for Quillon to do anything else. That one slash, filled with all of the power that he could muster, would hit Gronex hundreds of times over.
The moment after Quillon completed his strike, energy blades appeared all around Gronex simultaneously and sliced into his already wounded body.
Quillon had demonstrated this aspect of his Supreme Skill once before against a hoard of flying manta ray monsters that had attacked their group while they explored the crystal caverns.
Back then he had used it to slice through every single one of the monsters and kill most of them instantly.
This time though, he had focused all of that power directly on Gronex.
Normally this would not have been particularly effect, since the giant Lava Dragon possessed incredible defenses that could withstand the assault. All Quillon would have accomplished was a few hundred minor cuts that would all have been healed in a couple seconds.
Fortunately, Lyra had already taken charge and severely weakened Gronex’s protections.
His scales that were harder than adamantine had all degraded to the point of becoming as brittle as a cracked glass.
The mana that he would usually use to create a powerful barrier was now mostly being focused towards healing.
Leaving Gronex vulnerable to the hundreds of strikes hitting him all at once.
A loud roar of extreme pain erupted from Gronex’s mouth as he was sliced into.
There were now deep gashes all of his torso and legs and thinner ones around his chest, neck, and head. The vital places he had focused on protecting the most.
What looked like massive waterfalls of blood gushed out of his enormous body, and the robust strength that held him up faltered as Gronex’s limbs could no longer support his weight.
A thunderous boom resounded through the area as the proud Lava Dragon was forced down onto his stomach by the pressure being created by Roxene’s Supreme Skill. He was now completely immobilized. Not even able to so much twitch.
"I suppose that this just leaves me."
His scythe out and held in front of him, Marcus turned it to its side and its form began to change. Taking a shape that somewhat resembled a crossbow.
