"Alright, please wait a moment."

The waiter left.

Only Aurelia and Eleanor Spencer were left sitting face to face.

Aurelia held her glass and sipped water, her gaze lowered, her long and thick lashes veiling the mocking, cold smile flickering in her eyes.

Eleanor Spencer had asked her here—wasn't it just to show off? To flaunt her current status, her standing in the entertainment industry, and the wealth she now possessed.

But what she couldn't understand was, no one knew her identity and background better than Eleanor Spencer did.

All these years, the reason her identity hadn't been exposed was because doing so would only create positive publicity for her, something of no use to Eleanor Spencer.

But why would she ever think she'd be jealous of those things?

Even though Eleanor Spencer's family couldn't compare to hers, nor to the Nightshade Family, it was still a big, well-off household—yet she actually thought this was a way to show off. How childish, how laughable.

"Isabel, isn't ordering such expensive dishes a bit extravagant?" Aurelia followed Eleanor's lead, her brows lightly furrowing, asking with concern.

There was mockery rippling in Eleanor's eyes, though outwardly she smiled serenely. "It's not that expensive. Just enjoy yourself, don't worry about my money. The food here is really good, I love coming here for meals."

After a pause, she added, "You come here often too, don't you?"

If she'd known, she would've ordered a few more expensive dishes.

Aurelia shook her head, "This is my first time here."

Pride flashed in Eleanor's gaze.

But before she could fully savor that feeling, Aurelia's next sentence froze the smile right off her face, leaving her unable to laugh at all.

"I've only been back in the country a little over a year, haven't had much time to dine out. I honestly don't know which restaurants in Q City are good or bad. A few years ago maybe, but the city's changed so much, so fast. Still, these dishes really aren't expensive. They're a lot cheaper than what I usually eat. If it tastes good, I'll come here often."

The smile on Eleanor's face was about to crack.

She hadn't wanted Aurelia's gratitude!

Damn it, instead of getting under Aurelia's skin, she'd ended up with the short end of the stick herself. This Aurelia really wasn't the same gullible girl she'd used to toy with in the palm of her hand.

The waiter happened to bring the dishes just then.

Aurelia picked up a bite of food, made a soft "mm" in approval, and nodded. "The flavor's really pretty good."

Eleanor forced a smile onto her face and pushed a few plates over in front of Aurelia, kindly saying, "These dishes are all really nice, you should try them. I remember your tastes are pretty similar to mine."

Aurelia curved her lips in a slight smile and took a bite with her chopsticks.

Across the table, Eleanor reminisced about their "close friendship" in the past.

"We used to be inseparable. Even when we were both busy with work, we'd chat and text every day. I don't even know when it started, but somehow we just drifted apart. Sigh."

She looked at Aurelia. "Aurelia, was it something I did? Did I make you angry?"

Aurelia lifted her brows. "If a friendship can drift apart, then it was never real. If it can fade, it means the two personalities don't fit, or maybe... one of them was never sincere."

Eleanor's mouth fell open in surprise, disbelief coloring her question: "You... you think I approached you with an ulterior motive?" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"I never said that," Aurelia replied blandly, then curled her lips in a cold smile. "That was your own confession."

"Aurelia, I... I didn't," Eleanor stammered nervously, shaking her head, tears instantly pooling in her eyes, on the verge of falling—a pitiful sight indeed.
