Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 731 - 729: High-Level Hesitation, Rivalry at the Sports Festival (Sore Throat)
September 26th, Tuesday.
The soft morning light fell on the courtyard lawn, and a breeze slipped through the open window into the kitchen, carrying a slight chill.
Morimoto Chitose, draped in a white apron, was preparing breakfast for the day. Her hands didn't stop, while Jack's voice came through her earphones.
"It wasn't that I ignored your call yesterday, but I was really too busy. The phone never stopped, and the meetings went on until 11:40.
When I wanted to return your call, I realized I might interrupt your sleep, so I didn't call you."
Hearing his explanation, Morimoto Chitose wanted to tease him; she wasn't his manager checking on him, so there was no need for such a detailed report.
But she didn't say anything, flipping the steak in the frying pan, and asked, "What exactly happened last night?"
"The Holy Lord discovered Emily is Enya's reincarnation, and the demonized Takeshita Kensaku is missing, likely dead.
The Shadow Emperor fought with the Holy Lord in Toyoshima Ward to protect Emily."
Jack recounted the major events from last night, hoping to hear some sort of surprised reaction from the other end of the line.
When he first learned of this, he was so shocked he nearly dropped his glass.
After all, they're two Angel Envoys.
The consequences of them fighting in Tokyo are unimaginable.
But there was no surprised sound from the other end of the line, just the usual charming voice, "Is that so, it seems they were evenly matched."
"How do you know they had a draw?"
Jack couldn't help but ask curiously, because he hadn't mentioned it, "Could it be that you knew beforehand?"
The voice suddenly lowered, clearly suspecting her of having some connection with Emily.
"This kind of thing can be guessed if two Angel Envoys had a major fight in Tokyo, the news this morning should be about how many people died, with Toyoshima Ward or half of Tokyo facing some kind of destruction."
Morimoto Chitose replied casually, then turned off the electric stove, took out the cooked steak and placed it on the toast, "Did the Shadow Emperor send any message to the United States via Mexico?"
"Yes, he told the United States not to interfere too much in this matter."
Jack showed a bit of distress, "The upper levels are now showing divided attitudes.
Some believe we should heed the Shadow Emperor's words and not offend anyone.
Others think the Shadow Emperor hasn't given them any benefits.
If they can seize Emily and present her to the Holy Lord, the United States might gain the power to resist the Shadow Emperor."
"What does the President think?"
"He hasn't expressed his opinion yet, I received calls from the Republican Party, Democratic Party, and those from the financial groups last night, wow, my head's spinning."
Jack looked troubled, unsure which orders to follow, and if those big shots were setting traps.
"I've secretly recorded everything, you come over later to listen and see what's really going on."
Since he couldn't handle it, he wanted Morimoto Chitose to help him analyze what those big shots were really thinking and whose orders he should follow.
Or should he stick to his original course of action?
Jack was unwilling to betray friends for glory, but he also didn't dare to extend a helping hand to Emily and get caught in the conflict between the Holy Lord and the Shadow Emperor.
For him, that's a challenging matter.
Yet he didn't like challenges.
Stability is what Jack seeks in life.
"Alright, we'll talk about it later."
Morimoto Chitose hung up the phone, added lettuce, squeezed some tomato ketchup on top, and finally placed another slice of toast, then cut diagonally with a knife.
Today's sandwich breakfast was ready.
Morimoto Chitose walked out of the kitchen carrying two plates, twisted her waist, and knocked with her hips on the sliding door, "Little lazy bug, breakfast is ready."
"Coming."
Aozawa responded from inside.
...
After finishing a delicious breakfast, Aozawa grabbed his bag and headed to school.
Before he reached the school gate, he saw students standing at the edge of the rooftop of the teaching building.
If it were just one person, it might easily be suspected they were thinking of jumping off.
But a group of students stood there, holding things in their hands, making it less likely to remind someone of a tragic jumping incident.
He paused, looked up, watching the student council members throw colorful banners downward, like carp flags wandering in the wind.
Many students also looked up at the spectacular sight.
"Brilliant Sports Festival." "Friendship." "Effort." "Victory."
Besides these words, there were large, flamboyant characters, "Strength."
Though it was supposed to begin on Thursday, the festival seemed to have begun the moment the banners fell.
Aozawa looked at the excited expressions on the students' faces and smiled; perhaps this is youth, able to gain unimaginable joy and anticipation from small things.
He crossed the school gate, seeing Furusawa Kyoichiro standing by, inspecting students' attire, his glasses unable to hide the slightly dark eye circles.
Yet those eyes were still sharply scrutinizing the students' appearances.
Aozawa said with some surprise, "Furusawa, you don't look very well."
"It's fine, once the sports festival is over, everything will be okay."
Furusawa Kyoichiro answered nonchalantly.
As a discipline committee member and a part of the student council, he naturally needed to organize various things for the sports festival.
Competition events and programs, food stalls, activity arrangements, and schedule decorations, among other things.
He's a responsible person who, while handling all this, hasn't slacked off in baseball practice, nor has he missed his morning duties as a discipline committee member.
It's only natural to have dark circles with such a high workload.
"Keep it up."
Aozawa patted his shoulder and walked toward the club building.
Along the way, he could hear many students discussing which team would win this year; some were cheering for their team, while others chose to switch allegiances.
After all, for some, the result of the sports festival is not as important as making their girlfriend happy.
Listening to these words, Aozawa couldn't help but feel lucky that Phoenix Academy Maggie and Ayatsuki Ayaka didn't mind his full participation in the sports festival.
Even if he leads the Blue Team to victory, they wouldn't accuse him of not loving them.
Of course, Aozawa didn't hold much hope for leading the Blue Team to victory.
Most of the events in the sports festival are team competitions.
Scores are calculated based on each team's performance; it's not like one strong person can single-handedly win the championship for everyone.
The key lies in teamwork and whether teammates are capable.
As far as he knew, the Blue Team lacked a strong leader overall.
Who made Aozawa a lone wolf type?
One person can perform well, but asking him to lead team commands and inspire unity and morale is simply impossible.
Leading a Kendo club is his limit.
Aozawa opened the door to the Kendo club, and the members stood there, bowing in unison, "Good morning, captain."
He nodded, stepped into the activity room, and closed the door behind him, "Let's start training."
"Yes."
Everyone responded in unison.
...
"White Team Forever!"
In the Human Observation Society's activity room, Ayatsuki Ayaka took off her shoes, stood on the table, and raised her right fist high, showing a grand ambition to seize the sports festival championship.
Beside the table, Takahashi Saeko nonchalantly applied nail polish and said lightly, "Iroha, last year's sports festival didn't see you this excited either. You even said sports are boring childish games."
Miyahara Kaoru had his eyes lowered, not joining the conversation, seemingly staring at his phone, but in fact, staring at the pair of feet on the table.
The tightly wrapped white stockings showed a hint of wheat color, and the toes and instep seemed to have "tasty ice cream" written all over them.
Even in autumn, they made people want to take a bite.
Miyahara Kaoru could only drink yogurt to calm his mind.
Thump, thump, Ayatsuki Ayaka ran two steps to Takahashi Saeko, put her hands on her hips, and said, "Times have changed, now I have the strength to win the championship.
Our White Team is very strong!"
She answered with exuberance.
Even though Ayatsuki Ayaka participated in a major world-saving event last week, in such a big event, she always felt she hadn't played much of a role, like a lucky person who managed to squeak into the finals.
Indispensable but not much of an achievement.
But the sports festival was different.
Ayatsuki Ayaka served as the captain of the White Team!
With her current physical condition, plus the strong White Team, winning this sports festival championship was a sure thing.
Most importantly, she could lead the White Team to defeat Phoenix Academy Maggie!
"Through this sports festival, I want to show what it means to be a warrior."
Ayatsuki Ayaka suddenly forgot the next words to say.
Takahashi Saeko added a line, "After three days, you must look at a man in a new light."
"Yes, yes, that's it!"
Ayatsuki Ayaka nodded.
Tama Chan couldn't help but dampen her spirits, "Don't forget, Phoenix Academy Maggie is also a four-stage trial participant, her physical condition is undoubtedly better than yours."
"Hehe, Maru, don't underestimate me, of course, I know that."
Ayatsuki Ayaka, with a smug look, jumped off the table and landed on her shoes. She counted on her fingers, "Think about it, our White Team has Hojo Tetsuji, me, and Hojo Shouko, three trial participants.
Phoenix Academy Maggie's Red Team only has her, and the Blue Team has Aozawa, the class president.
Our White Team has three trial participants!
Isn't the advantage on our side?"
With that, she looked even more smug, "I want Sister Ayaka, and my parents to see how I achieve my first honor in life!"
Takahashi Saeko, seeing her so exuberant, couldn't help but feel a headache, "The sports festival emphasizes team spirit. Even if there's individual advantage, it won't be strong enough to ignore the rules.
The key is organization and event arrangement."
Ayatsuki Ayaka blinked, feeling that what she said was a bit complicated and she couldn't quite understand it, replied cheekily, "It's okay, we can win."
"...Iroha, I hope you don't cry later."
"Maru, I'm not a child."
Ayatsuki Ayaka glared at her, eagerly anticipating her performance in the sports festival.
Saving the world in the shadows couldn't compare to the pride of winning the sports festival openly.
Thursday, come quickly!
