Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 438 - 436 Collapse of the World’s Laws_1
The lights of the Big Fat Sheep Bar were warm, cascading from above onto the coffee-colored bar and the edges of the clear, square glasses.
Emily’s words made the atmosphere somewhat heavy.
Katerina, seemingly wiping a glass, had her muscles tensed, ready to strike at any moment. Her strength was nothing compared to Dio’s, but as a powerful martial artist, knowing she was no match, she would never back down when it was time to strike. Being shattered to pieces wasn’t scary; what was terrifying was lacking the courage to even make a move. If the enemy’s wheels were going to roll over her, Katerina wouldn’t cry and beg for mercy; she’d only punch back.
"Heh," Aozawa chuckled. He picked up the square glass again and said, "I really didn’t misjudge you; honesty is an important factor in friendship. You don’t believe I can make the world a better place. Is it because I did something that made you distrust me?"
Emily’s clenched hands quietly relaxed, her palms drenched with cold sweat. Interacting with someone who could control her life at any moment was by no means easy; one had to carefully consider the other’s thoughts and then give the correct answers.
"Of course not. It’s just that I believe anyone can make mistakes; no one can always be right. If the peace and turmoil of the world rested on one person’s shoulders, to be decided by that person alone, that would indeed be a terrifying thing."
Hearing this, Aozawa drained his glass in one gulp and set it down. The two ice cubes within clinked crisply as they collided. "You make a good point," he said. "The night sky is lovely; let’s go outside and enjoy the view."
Emily knew Dio had come knocking for a reason other than wanting to chat.
"Sure."
Even though her mind was still full of questions, she swallowed them, reasoning that by staying close to him, she would naturally learn more in time.
Aozawa grabbed Emily’s small hand; it was soft, like a tiny piece of dough.
In contrast, Katerina’s hand was much more robust, even larger than his.
The Global Travel ability activated. Aozawa’s vision shot up in an instant. A blue planet appeared before him and, amidst the dense cluster of red dots, he selected one.
「...」
In a split second, Emily felt the same change as last time, her view switching directly from the Big Fat Sheep Bar to a landscape of ice and snow.
The polar night blanketed the Antarctic sky, and she saw a large group of penguins waddling clumsily in the distance.
Their chubby figures made Emily want to take one home to raise, but the thought dissipated with the ensuing cold.
She shivered all over, her legs wobbling. Her summer Gothic-style dress was obviously no match for the Antarctic chill. Her teeth chattered so much that she couldn’t even speak.
Katerina, full of robust energy, wasn’t affected by the cold. She quickly took Emily into her arms to warm the little one.
"Dio, are you trying to freeze me to death?" she complained, her teeth chattering. "You didn’t even give me time to change into winter clothes before suddenly bringing me to such a cold place. My legs are shaking so much they’re about to cramp!"
"Don’t panic."
Aozawa used the Element Replacement ability, transforming from a human shape into a Human-Shaped Furnace.
The blazing flames drove away the cold in the air and gradually melted the snow on the ground.
Emily felt considerably warmer. She exhaled a puff of white air and glanced around, asking, "Why did you bring me here?"
"To show you the laws of this world."
Aozawa tilted his head up, gazing toward the north of Antarctica.
Emily, curious, also looked in that direction.
The stars, usually hidden by city lights, shone in the Antarctic night sky. What she regretted, though, was the absence of auroras at that moment.
"What do you mean by the laws of the world?"
"Just as the words imply, they’re the laws that sustain this world. If they’re broken, it means the laws of this world will collapse, heading towards destruction."
Emily’s face tensed. "You wouldn’t be thinking of destroying the world’s laws, would you?"
Aozawa spread his hands. "No, I wouldn’t do something so crude. Someone else is responsible."
"Who?"
Emily swallowed hard.
Aozawa didn’t answer her question directly but said leisurely, "I know you’re anxious, but don’t be. It will soon make its appearance here."
Dammit... Emily clenched her fists. She hated this style of half-spoken conversation, especially when she couldn’t guess the answers to the riddles.
Her brows furrowed as her mind plunged into thought. Who would want to do such a thing? The unknown irritated her. She was witnessing the world slowly heading towards its end, yet where were the heroes from the movies who could save it?
Emily couldn’t help falling into a pessimistic mood. Up to now, she was still just an observer, almost certainly destined to play a supporting role in the future, not the savior of the world. She couldn’t see this world’s savior anywhere, only monsters taking their seats, wantonly dividing everything. Could the Hawk of Light Griffith spoke of truly illuminate this world? Or, to its people, was the Hawk of Light’s glow a deadly poison?
As Emily’s thoughts ran wild, fate brought her to the moment she was meant to witness.
「...」
BOOM!
A thunderous roar from the sky startled Emily. Her heart skipped a beat, and her legs instinctively tensed to prevent another mishap.
She stared above. A large patch of the shimmering stars had suddenly vanished. From that pitch-black hole, an immense monster stepped out.
Long tendrils danced wildly in the air. Faces hung from its upper body, and countless legs merged into two gigantic limbs.
It seemed to stand between heaven and earth, like a walking World Tree.
Emily recognized this monster. It was the giant creature that had appeared on the coast of England! Her little mouth fell agape, wide enough to swallow an egg.
She collapsed onto the ground, the icy snow seeping through her thin gothic dress, chilling her buttocks.
Katerina’s forehead was covered in cold sweat. Nearly suffocating from the immense oppressive force, she whispered, "What—what kind of monster is this?"
"The Dread Emperor that tramples all laws," Aozawa said softly. "It was once an Angel Envoy but, in pursuit of power, devoured countless monsters and eventually became the Demon Realm itself."
He had wanted to take advantage of Fate Weaving’s final day to craft a grand scene with Emily as the protagonist, writing the events she would next encounter. Originally, he worried Fate Weaving couldn’t create a creature as massive as the Dread Emperor. However, it turned out that as long as it didn’t involve human destiny, Fate Weaving was unreasonably powerful in creating creatures. However, this Dread Emperor, despite its colossal size, had no special abilities. It was merely a target for war machines, only good for scaring people. The visual effect was maxed out, giving Aozawa the feeling of watching a 3D blockbuster—a scene he had directed himself. The snow-covered Antarctic and the polar night served as the perfect special effects. So did the Dread Emperor.
It took a step forward.
BOOM! A distant thunderous noise followed, lifting snow from the ground in spreading rings, like an avalanche.
"AH!"
Emily screamed in fright, scrambling to her feet.
Aozawa waved his hand. Flames rapidly surged, drawing a wall of fire on the ground that melted all the approaching snow.
Then, Emily saw a column of light composed of colorful rays appear in the air before the Dread Emperor. Its surface shimmered with mountains, rivers, human figures—all things faintly visible within the light.
She looked at the laws of the world, an intense chill seeping into her limbs. Her voice trembled, "What is the Dread Emperor trying to do?"
Even though she had already guessed the answer, she still asked with a sliver of hope, wishing to hear something different from Dio by her side.
"Break the laws of the world."
Emily’s heart sank to the depths as she watched the Dread Emperor embrace the column of light. "No, please no!"
Her voice was so feeble it couldn’t carry even a few hundred meters, let alone reach the Dread Emperor thousands of meters away.
CRACK! The surface of the column fractured. Under the Dread Emperor’s embrace, it exploded with a loud bang.
In an instant, a blinding burst of light made the Dread Emperor’s massive body disappear. Colorful auroras covered the entire sky, briefly outshining the stars.
Emily felt the Antarctic beneath her feet tremble, as if countless dragons under the ice were trying to turn over, making her own small legs shake uncontrollably.
After the tremors, the auroras dissipated, and everything returned to calm.
She swallowed, asking, "Dio, after the world’s laws collapse, how long until destruction?"
"I’m not sure," Aozawa said. "This is my first time seeing such a scene, and the books don’t give a specific time."
Aozawa wouldn’t give a clear answer, preferring to leave blanks for people to fill with their own imagination.
"Aren’t you going to stop it? This world is your domain, after all." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Emily tried to incite a conflict between the two Angel Envoys.
Aozawa smiled. "Everything will improve once I step into Paradise. There’s no need for conflict with it."
Emily really wanted to ask: *Are you unable to defeat it?* But she knew she couldn’t stoke the fire too obviously.
She swallowed the words she wanted to say and instead asked, "What do you plan to do next?"
"Let’s go back."
Aozawa released his Element Replacement ability, grabbed her hand, and also took Katerina’s.
The Global Travel ability activated again, instantly bringing them both back inside the Big Fat Sheep Bar.
Aozawa let go of their hands. "I have other things to attend to. That’s all for tonight; we’ll talk again next time."
With those words, he used his Element Replacement ability, transforming into an invisible breeze and disappearing before their eyes, then used Schrodinger’s Cat to leap away.
The Big Fat Sheep Bar became deserted. Emily patted the snow off her backside; the cold sensation confirmed that what had just happened was no dream.
Just moments ago, she had witnessed the world’s laws shatter. The Dread Emperor. Humanity was one step closer to the end of days. Emily knew she had to convey this information to the task force using coded messages. The savior’s whereabouts were unknown. For now, she could only do what was within her power. Otherwise, how could she face such a despairing truth?
Emily’s hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
