Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 427 - 425: Chitose Aims to Reclaim the Throne of the Family_1
July 27, Thursday.
Early morning.
The cellphone on the bedside table started to ring incessantly. A hand stretched out from under the covers, picked up the phone, and swiped to the answer button.
"Miss Morimoto."
"She’s still asleep, and besides, she’s taken the day off to rest, so don’t call again!" Aozawa replied with a stern face.
Being rudely awakened early in the morning, he would have cursed the bastard on the other end to death with the Book of Destiny if Chitose weren’t sleeping beside him.
Without waiting for a response, he tried to hang up, but a chop landed heavily on his head.
"Don’t just answer my phone!" Chitose reached out from behind him.
The air conditioning was set to 17 degrees Celsius, preventing their close physical contact from becoming the kind of overwhelming heat that would make one sweat.
Nevertheless, Aozawa still felt an inner flame being kindled, burning intensely. The combination of jade-like skin and soft, flexible fat made what was originally useless fat invaluable. As it turned out, there’s nothing useless in this world as long as it’s in the right place.
"You go wash up and brush your teeth."
Chitose kicked Aozawa out of bed with her foot, feeling somewhat annoyed with herself. She had truly fallen. She had agreed to keep herself in check but ended up muddled and mingled again with Aozawa during the night. Today! Today she must control herself and not continue this degeneracy! She needed to work hard!
Chitose put the phone to her ear and asked, "Who is it?"
"Miss Morimoto, you haven’t talked about those things with your boyfriend, have you?" Jack’s tone was full of concern. He had seen too many excellent agents lose their sharpness upon getting married, gradually becoming ordinary from being spirited. The most terrifying part was that such changes seemed horrific to others, yet the person who changed felt completely satisfied, offering no resistance at all.
"Don’t worry, I haven’t said anything." Chitose leaned against the headboard, casually covering her chest with a blanket, and crossed her long, beautiful legs. Between her thighs, she could feel a coarseness that was different from the smoothness of her skin, and a dusting of "white frost" had settled on the sheets. The previous night hadn’t been as wild as the one before but lasted no less.
She changed the subject, "You’re calling me early in the morning, so it must be something urgent. Is there a new case, or does it have to do with Ghosts?"
Jack had repeatedly instructed Okayama Buji and the others not to reveal the process of capturing Ghosts to Chitose outside of work hours, and he didn’t believe they would disobey orders.
"Come out and let’s talk. I’m waiting in the office. It’s very urgent!"
"Okay." Chitose hung up the phone.
Normally, she would’ve complained about Jack asking her to work overtime. Now, she suddenly found the idea of going to work appealing.
Outside the room, Aozawa suddenly poked his head in and asked, "Chitose, are you taking the day off today?"
"No, I have to go to work. Hurry up and get out; don’t get in the way of me getting dressed."
"I saw you last night anyway," Aozawa grumbled yet still closed the door.
Chitose sighed internally; this was why she had suddenly become fascinated with work. Having a beast at home that constantly thought about her was a new kind of joy she experienced, difficult to pull herself away from, and she needed to use her work to return to her previous mindset. If she continued to let Aozawa lead their relationship, she feared it would be nothing but nights of revelry. Her body couldn’t take it; the youth’s energy was endless. Chitose had to take back her domestic throne and become the dominating force again. Only then could she tame the beast inside the young man’s heart.
「Shinjuku, Central Building.」
In the basement parking lot, Chitose parked her Bugatti Veyron, and a woman came forward to open the car door for her. Yuzuki Suzuko was dressed in a white blouse paired with a black skirt, black stockings, and high heels, fitting perfectly with a man’s fantasy of a secretary.
"Miss Morimoto, please follow me."
"Hmm." Chitose glanced around, noticing the absence of any other agents. "What happened?"
"You’ll hear it from the Director as soon as you get upstairs," Suzuko replied calmly, sashaying into the elevator. Upon swiping a card, she pressed the button for the thirty-first floor.
Reaching that floor, Suzuko led the way, opening the door into the large office space before ringing the bell for Jack’s office and whispering, "Director, Miss Morimoto is here."
BEEP, the door opened.
Chitose stepped in, then closed the door behind her and walked to the desk.
Jack stood up to pour her a cup of tea, then sat down and said, "Sorry to disturb you so early. We captured the Ghost in the mansion yesterday and sent it to the Cloning Research Institute for testing. The conclusion is the Ghost is like a conglomeration of microorganisms. One microorganism acts as the main brain. It sends out special radio waves to control the other microorganisms, causing them to gather. This aggregation produces a visible glow, forming a white, humanoid appearance that is even capable of making sound. They possess the intelligence to mimic humans."
Chitose listened with amazement. Creatures from a Different World are indeed peculiar.
"The Cloning Research Institute is trying to clone it," Jack revealed his purpose. "I’m looking for you because of KGB-related matters."
Chitose yawned, leaned back, and said, "Director, this is not within the scope of my duties."
"Of course, it is related. Bruno, the KGB’s highest commander in Japan, had people follow and track the Ghost’s convoy yesterday, wanting to figure out what clues we have in our possession. This information about the Different World, the task force has the authority to control." Jack swiveled his chair to face the windows, golden sunlight draping over the high-rise buildings of Shinjuku. "Based on the confessions of the caught KGB agents, I sent people to their door, only to have them blown up by a bomb inside. By now, only by having you step in can we eradicate the KGB’s people."
Chitose didn’t want to get involved in matters between spy organizations. Judging by Bruno’s move of leaving a bomb, his methods were obviously quite ruthless.
"Jack, I shouldn’t interfere in this. Your agents’ affairs should be solved by your agents."
"Then at least give me some advice." Jack turned back, his face pleading for help.
The death of three agents was initially trivial, but getting to the higher-ups could inevitably affect Director John’s evaluation of his abilities. Thinking of what John said yesterday, Jack seethed with rage at the snitch. Damn it, if he found out who it was, he would definitely give them a good thrashing.
Seeing him looking so pitiful, Chitose thought for a moment and said, "It’s not difficult for the KGB to establish a foothold here. To grow bigger, they must obtain local support. I remember the Takamagahara plan got cut by one hundred billion US Dollars. The original plan was for three hundred billion US Dollars, and they do not seem to be in a rush to fill the gap. What’s going on with that?"
Jack was slightly startled. Yes, the six large consortiums and Phoenix Academy were not shortsighted fools. If they had invested in the Noah’s Ark project, how would the missing funds for the Takamagahara plan be replenished? I remember someone in the Intelligence Department has always been monitoring their moves, but I haven’t received any reports. Has the Director of Intelligence been bought out?
"Or maybe he just wants you to make a mistake, so he can take your place."
"Bastard!" Jack was instantly furious. The Director of Intelligence was John’s confidant; it was impossible for him to defect to the KGB. But undermining me is very possible. If I’m gone, John would have no choice but to promote the Director of Intelligence as the sub-bureau chief.
"FARK, Jelle Sherman, that guy really deserves to die!" Jack’s words were harsh, yet his tone was filled with helplessness. The CIA sub-bureau stationed in Japan had tens of thousands of staff, yet among these tens of thousands, he only knew fifty-six people from the Special Intelligence Investigation Department. Then there were the directors and secretaries of the four major departments. Below that, he didn’t know a single person. Earlier, it had always been John who coordinated the selection of candidates for him. But whether intentionally or not, John had not introduced him to reliable operatives below. Jack even suspected that there were spies for John in the Special Intelligence Investigation Department, specifically to monitor him. Who below was loyal? And who was not? It was a very difficult question to answer.
"Jelle is Director John’s confidant," Jack said in distress. "I don’t have any evidence, so it’s difficult for me to do anything to him."
"You could flush him out. First, bring that person over, loudly scold him for dereliction of duty, then let him personally oversee a critical plan. Any screw-up, and he takes the fall."
Jack thought it over and found it quite appealing. "That makes sense. If he wants to get promoted over my dead body, then I’ll make sure he gets fired too."
"The only drawback of this plan is that the opponent might take desperate measures and eliminate you physically." Chitose had to remind him of the risks of this strategy, then added, "Or you eliminate him first."
Power struggles are like this; you can’t always expect others to be merciful and not deliver the killing blow. Instead, you should consider the worst-case scenario.
Jack thought for a moment. My previous idea was indeed naive; I didn’t even think of striking first. He then asked, "Who do you think I should get to take him out? After he is gone, who should take his place? Do you want the job as Director of Intelligence?"
"Not interested. I don’t want to increase my power anymore." Chitose shook her head. With her current conditions, she was fully capable of living the easy life of a winner and didn’t need to risk climbing higher for more power, making her life too busy. She provided advice only because she didn’t want to face a strict new boss.
Jack was unwilling to give up. "You could manage temporarily. As soon as I find a suitable candidate, I’ll immediately let you step down."
"I refuse." Chitose firmly declined, "You could have your secretary, Yuzuki Suzuko, take over."
"I trust her to stay by my side, but if she was assigned to manage alone, I’d still have some mistrust. I feel like she could backstab me any moment and switch sides." Jack was frustrated. Being promoted too quickly also had its troubles; his confidants were far from being able to control an entire department. This was evident from the fact that someone had managed to contact Director John above him without his knowledge. In the past, when John was here, no one in the CIA sub-bureau was capable of contacting the head of the CIA Headquarters. Oh, except for Robert.
Jack exhaled heavily with frustration and asked, "So, where do you think would be a good place to put Jelle in charge of?"
"Figure it out yourself. I’ve got work with the task force to do. Goodbye." Chitose waved and turned to leave the office.
Jack stroked his chin. Thinking of Mayers’ clone, the Tsuhara Research Institute seems like a good place.
