Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 415 - 413 The Great Change_1
Setagaya District, Phoenix Academy.
In the northwest corner was a private classroom, adorned with asparagus ferns by the window. The interior seemed spacious, yet it contained only a single desk and chair, along with a lectern.
"Thank you for your hard work, Dr. Kamita." Maggie rose to her feet, bowing to the white-haired elder at the lectern, thus concluding the finance lesson.
Dr. Kamita’s face broke into a smile as he waved his hand. "I don’t find it hard at all. Teaching a bright student like you is very relaxing. In fact, it feels like the money is too easily earned."
"It’s all thanks to your excellent teaching." Maggie wore a modest expression.
Dr. Kamita chuckled, then left the classroom.
Seeing that no one was around, she stood in place, stretching lazily, her snow-white dress revealing its flowing curves. Like at school, each tutoring session at home was followed by a brief fifteen-minute break. Each tutor for her courses was a doctor specialized in their respective fields. After all, it was beyond doubt that a doctor possessed extensive knowledge in their area of expertise. Outside that area, however, they could appear distinctly superficial. It was normal for them not to cover every field, as they spent so much time researching their specialty.
KNOCK, KNOCK. Miwa Kazuki stood at the door, gently rapping. Dressed in a black tailcoat, he said in a gentle voice, "Miss, I just heard that The White House is about to hold a press conference. It’s a live broadcast. Would you like to watch it in the living room?"
"Mm," Maggie nodded in reply. She picked up her phone, unlocked it with her fingerprint, and saw that Aozawa had replied to her message. Upon opening it, she saw he’d used the excuse of not having woken up yet.
Maggie snorted lightly, not really believing this excuse. Today is Monday, a time for Dio’s mischief. How could he possibly oversleep?
Hehe, you big lazy pig.
Since he claimed to have overslept, Maggie didn’t mind using this reason to call him a pigheaded fool.
She strode out of the classroom and into the living room. In front of the sofa, on the coffee table, sat a stemmed glass containing a stunningly beautiful azure drink. With ice, the drink’s color was as clear as gemstones. It was a blend of over a dozen fruits, perhaps with a little something extra to ensure its splendid color and taste. Maggie particularly enjoyed this drink, named ’Galaxy,’ during the summer.
She took a seat on the sofa, texting with her fingers, "The White House is about to hold a press conference. Get online and check it out."
With a tap, the message was sent.
On the TV screen before her, the press conference was unfolding. A lectern stood at the center, the Stars and Stripes hung on the wall, and The White House spokesperson had yet to appear, but reporters were already seated in rows of chairs. Both domestic and international journalists were present, easily numbering over a hundred.
Maggie took a sip of her drink, her eyes glancing at her phone; the message showed as ’read.’
"If it’s an order from the Miss, then I must watch."
Her bright red lips curved slightly, her gaze softening.
Miwa Kazuki looked surprised. "Miss, you seem very happy. Is it a friend?"
"Mm," Maggie replied, quickly composing her expression and typing in response, "What order? You make it sound like you’re so obedient."
She sent a blood-red ’kill’ emoticon.
On the TV screen, The White House spokesperson emerged from backstage. The cameras instantly focused on her. She was an African-American woman. Walking up to the podium with her papers, she spoke into the microphone, "We know there have been questions about the interruption of the previous press conference.
"Today, I am here to announce that Ms. Karin has been dismissed from her position at The White House."
"What is your opinion of the President’s speech?" a reporter asked.
"Regarding that, let me be clear: the President did not misspeak. Indeed, a Different World exists, as do Monsters."
The spokesperson’s words obviously stunned the reporters; they had come expecting a denial. No one had anticipated The White House would actually confirm it.
Maggie, sitting in front of the TV, grew solemn and set her drink on the table. She knew very well that such a statement from The White House signaled a major strategic shift, one that could affect the global landscape.
"Excuse me, are you saying a Different World and Monsters really exist?"
"Yes. The deep state has been trying to hide this fact, but the President has always believed that American citizens should know what we are doing. Unlike his predecessor, who promised to disclose certain files but kept them hidden." The spokesperson continued fervently, "The President’s courage allowed everyone to witness that earlier scene. We, too, learned of this for the first time. The deep state’s attempt to conceal the truth from everyone was shattered by the President himself. Please look at the Monster’s corpse."
With that, she clapped her hands, and the corpse of Cerberus was carried out and placed on display. The cameras quickly focused on Cerberus’s body. Its pitch-black fur had been shaved off, exposing its bare skin; its three heads drooped lifelessly.
"Look at its heads. There are no traces of artificial grafting, indicating it was born this way. A Monster, seemingly Cerberus, suddenly appeared in Queens, New York."
The cameras focused on the Monster’s body.
Maggie looked shocked. She picked up her phone, then set it down again. Discussing such matters online is a bit risky, she thought. Despite her many doubts, she could only suppress them for now. Her status was different from ordinary people; it wasn’t appropriate for the heiress of Phoenix Academy to discuss such things with friends.
"When did The White House discover the whereabouts of the Different World and the Monsters?"
"How does the President plan to respond?"
"Is it true that David was bestowed with Divine Power?"
A series of questions suddenly erupted, throwing the scene into chaos. But the spokesperson understood their confusion. Anyone hearing such news would struggle to remain calm and would want all their questions answered immediately.
"Please calm down, everyone. I will answer the questions one by one." The spokesperson gestured with her hands for calm, then said, "Regarding David, the President has heard about it and has summoned him to Air Force One for a detailed discussion.
"Don’t panic. We already have specific measures in place; our radar can detect the fluctuations when a Different World connects to our world.
"Under the leadership of the President, and in the glory of God, we will defeat any adversaries, lead the international community, and together address the threat of the Different World to protect world peace!"
After delivering this series of official statements, The White House spokesperson began to recount the time when the Different World was discovered and the first place where a Monster appeared.
It was all false. Those reports made no mention of Tokyo.
Maggie took a sip of her drink. Perhaps Nett’s dementia acted up, forcing The White House to make emergency strategic adjustments, she speculated. But what’s this about Divine Power being bestowed upon David?
Maggie had been in class earlier and hadn’t paid attention to the internet. She picked up her phone, searched for David’s name, and quickly found a video of David being interviewed on the street. The comments section was rapidly growing. She keenly noted the time David mentioned. Converted to Japan time, it was Monday, Marine Day.
A thoughtful expression crossed Maggie’s face. Divine Power bestowed upon David... Earth’s Strongest Martial Arts Tournament, Higashiyama Jiro, Amat’s disappearance... everything seems to be connecting. The Ability Aozawa obtained last week was likely related to stripping others of their physical strength and could also bestow it. Bestowing it upon David was probably to test for side effects. That Dragon person was definitely Aozawa in disguise using his Transformation Ability. But what about Cerberus? Is this week’s Superpower creating giant creatures? No, I don’t think so. It doesn’t make sense for Aozawa to create a creature just to let David take the spotlight. David isn’t anyone special to Aozawa; there’s no reason to do such a thing unless it was part of testing the Ability. What kind of Ability did Aozawa get this week? Unfortunately, there’s no time to meet Aozawa now and probe further. Damn summer vacation! Students really shouldn’t have any holidays!
Though she thought this, she decided to express her inner thoughts subtly again. "It’s wonderful that David could be bestowed power by the Lord. I also wish to be granted the power to soar to the heavens and descend into the earth. Damn, that’s really enviable."
Maggie had little interest in the power of martial artists but desperately yearned for Superpower.
「In Adachi District, Ayase, at the Morimoto Family residence.」
Aozawa sat on the sofa, watching The White House press conference live.
He was somewhat surprised they would publicize such matters. Was this influenced by the Book of Destiny, indirectly helping David become Mayor of New York?
DING. His phone chimed. Aozawa looked down, unlocked it, and saw it was a message from Maggie. The acidity in her words almost spilled off the screen. Clearly, Maggie had guessed he was the one who’d bestowed power upon David. Maggie’s ambitions were even greater; she actually wanted Superpower.
"Yeah, it really is enviable. I want one too," Aozawa replied. The young lady sure knows how to make difficult requests, he thought.
DING-A-LING. Another sticker came through: a rabbit furiously beating an elephant with a brick. Maggie clearly understood his text’s meaning and was subtly expressing her disbelief.
Then she sent another message, "I have other things to take care of, let’s not talk for now."
"Okay," Aozawa replied. Watching the press conference conclude, he turned off the TV.
He didn’t rush to leave; with such an event occurring, Iroha would surely want to discuss it with him. When she was free, the class representative would also chat with him. He was the only one Iroha could truly call a friend.
The Kendo club’s group chat would be in an uproar too. With The White House officially confirming the existence of a Different World and Monsters, it was bound to have a worldwide impact.
He didn’t want to miss the chance to enjoy the online spectacle.
