Chapter 414: Chapter 412: Heaven Wants You Dead_1

In the dark alley, the creature that attacked him had absolutely nothing to do with humans.

Its dark skin shimmered with a metallic luster, and atop its head were a pair of curved buffalo horns. It bore a fierce countenance, with a mouth full of sharp teeth, similar to a shark’s.

A set of membrane wings like those of a bat sprouted from its back. Its upper body was bare, and its lower half was clad in thick black fur that hung like a dress down to its knees.

Barry had roamed the world for much of his life and considered himself well-traveled, having chased lions on the savannah and frolicked among herds of elephants.

But this bizarre creature was something he had never encountered before.

Was it a Demon?

Its appearance made him think of the Demons depicted in the Bible.

"ROAR!"

The Demon, failing to hit with its first attack, pushed off the ground with its heavily muscled legs, leaving cracks in the cement road beneath it.

The pair of membrane wings flapped in the air, emitting a thunderous noise akin to a storm, as its razor-sharp right claw swung directly at Barry.

He reacted swiftly, kicking the side of the claw.

BOOM. The force of the blow sent him rapidly falling downward. He rolled twice in mid-air to dissipate the force before landing on the ground.

The Demon changed direction, swooping down like a hawk preying on a rabbit, a thunderous roar bearing down on him.

"PTUI!" He suddenly spat out a wad of white silk, covering the Demon’s right eye.

Temporarily obscuring the Demon’s vision, Barry quickly leaped to his feet and charged through the gap between the Demon’s arms, ramming hard into its chest.

At the same time, Barry’s right elbow struck the Demon’s throat, making a THUDDING sound, as if he were punching a tree.

His elbow tingled slightly, but he was sure his attack had been effective.

"UGH!" The Demon, in pain, quickly withdrew and swung its hand backward, unleashing a dark light that shot across the night sky like a meteor.

Barry hastily kicked its chest, using the force to land on the ground.

"HAHA!" Barry stood firm, laughing heartily, his bushy beard unable to hide his inner excitement.

Fighting this monster is truly intriguing. After the initial shock, he had gauged the strength of this beast: its body was hard and its power strong, but that was it. Ordinary people would have no way of dealing with Demons, but as a martial artist, he had no fear of such a creature. It didn’t possess the terrifying power described in the Bible; it was all bark and no bite, merely looking frightening.

"Hey, Demon, let me send you back to Hell!"

Barry adopted the stance of the Hidden Assassination Fist. He beckoned with his hand, a hint of anticipation for the clash with this Demon now evident.

"DIE!"

Enraged, the Demon spat out a simple word. Its arms spread wide and its membrane wings furiously stirred the air, unleashing a booming sound of wind and thunder.

「The next second.」

Barry witnessed a terrifying scene. The previously sunny Tokyo quickly turned tempestuous, dark clouds rolling in to obscure the blue sky.

Without warning, thunder reverberated throughout Tokyo, and silver serpents of lightning slithered amidst the pitch-black clouds.

Barry’s eyes widened. Was this the work of the Demon? Impossible. It shouldn’t have that kind of power.

He swallowed hard. He had a sinking feeling he had been overly arrogant. But clearly, this opponent wasn’t the kind to let him off if he begged for mercy.

His gaze determined, he said, "Bring it on!"

His hands clenched, the contours of his muscles beginning to emerge on the surface of his skin, veins protruding.

Short in stature yet strong-limbed, with a bushy beard, his self-proclaimed title of "dwarf" seemed perfectly apt.

The Demon’s wings flapped, and it plummeted downward.

BOOM. Dazzling lightning illuminated the alley as a bolt struck the Demon. Its dark skin was immune to electrical damage, serving as a conductor and allowing electric arcs to dance on its knife-like claws.

"FARK!"

Barry cursed. Struggling to dodge at such speed, he quickly flipped backward, hands propping him up from the ground as he thrust his legs upwards, like a rabbit kicking an eagle.

He had carefully calculated the angle, kicking the side of the electrified claw.

CRACKLE! The electricity turned his shoes charred black. Before Barry could feel any relief, another brilliant bolt of lightning struck straight down from the sky.

The lightning spread from the Demon’s head to its claws, with an even more intense burst of electric light.

His shoes couldn’t withstand it and burst open, electricity surging into his soles. The numbing sensation almost made Barry’s legs buckle, but he forcefully pushed off the ground and somersaulted in mid-air.

He landed with his feet on a wall, intending to use it to spring forward and attack the Demon. But as soon as his feet touched down, everything in front of him turned a blinding white as lightning struck him directly on the head, igniting sparks from his beard and blackening his cheeks.

"God, you got the wrong man!" Barry roared, his severe injuries only fueling his ferocity. He kicked the wall, but it crumbled like tofu dregs beneath his feet.

His feet sank deep into it, preventing him from getting any purchase to push off.

"FARK!" Barry cursed again. Didn’t they say Japanese craftsmanship was meticulous? So this is it?!

The Demon closed in, swinging its right claw, its sharp fingertips slicing open his body.

In the nick of time, Barry still managed to use a force-dissipating technique, making the wound less deep than it would have been.

As his feet hit the ground, he staggered back two steps. Blood oozed from his chest, his once-bushy beard now completely singed off, leaving behind a face blacker than charcoal.

Although he was already dark-skinned, he now looked even more like charred firewood, seeming brittle.

"HUFF... HUFF..." Barry panted heavily, the gloomy sky making the alley even darker.

The Demon watched him, its eyes filled with the playful malice of a cat toying with a mouse.

A surge of annoyance rose within him.

In his life, he had seen all sorts of situations, big and small, and had climbed out from the Gate of Hell countless times. If Heaven wanted him dead, he was determined to live just to show it he could!

"Yahweh, I’m not so easy to defeat!" he bellowed.

Flashing lightning instantly illuminated the alley, and another bolt struck his body.

The thunderous sound reached his ears at that moment, causing a BUZZING ring.

Once is a coincidence; twice is premeditated. Is this Yahweh wanting me dead? Or the Demon’s doing? Barry couldn’t figure it out.

He had just shouted out loud to vent his frustration, much like countless people do when they’re upset and want to curse the heavens. But that entity, whoever it was, seemed to have taken his words seriously.

The Demon didn’t give him time to reflect, quickly pouncing forward.

Barry tried to dodge, but his body, having suffered two consecutive lightning strikes, could hardly react swiftly.

SHFFK! Razor-sharp claws sliced Barry into several pieces.

His large head tumbled through the air, his eyes wide open in disbelief. He had never imagined he would die this way.

The Demon stood there.

The dark clouds in the sky gradually cleared. Streaks of sunlight pierced through the thinning clouds, merging into a dazzling brilliance.

The sky was azure, as if freshly washed.

「...」

Aozawa witnessed the entire battle.

On the Book of Destiny, he had written that Barry, after finishing his usual activities, would encounter a Demon attack and then be killed by the Demon.

Aozawa hadn’t detailed the specific battle process, only the outcome.

This proved that creatures created by the Book of Destiny were, by strength alone, hardly capable of defeating powerful martial artists.

However, creatures from the Book of Destiny could kill martial artists with the help of various "accidents."

The difference between him directly scripting a martial artist’s death and this scenario likely lay in having a Demon as an intermediary. In that case, choosing the image of an Evil Spirit might be more interesting.

Invisible winds swirled across the ground as Aozawa used his Transformation Ability and appeared in the alley in the form of Dio.

The Demon standing there showed no submission. Instead, it roared loudly, like a lion whose territory had been invaded.

It kicked off the ground, its massive body lunging forward.

Diamond-shaped, multicolored lights twinkled. Before the Demon could touch Aozawa, it collided with the Defense Barrier.

BANG. The Demon felt its sturdy body crack as it was thrown backward.

Aozawa raised his hand. The Defense Barrier moved faster, circling behind the Demon and marking it as an enemy. This caused the Demon to be flung back by the Defense Barrier once more.

The intense repulsive force shattered its bones. It spat out a large mouthful of blood, only to be clamped by a hand formed from the Defense Barrier.

Aozawa placed his right hand on the Demon’s chest, activating his Marked Detonation Ability.

Black patterns resembling chrysanthemums emerged on the Demon’s chest.

As a thought crossed Aozawa’s mind, explosive flames erupted from the Demon’s shadowy body, vaporizing even the airborne blood.

Aozawa used Schrödinger’s Cat. His body gradually became translucent. With a thought, he returned to the villa.

The living room was well-lit and empty.

He emerged from the void, landed on the floor, and walked over to pick up his phone, wanting to check for messages.

Unlocking it, he found quite a few people had been looking for him.

The person with the most messages was the Young Lady.

He opened her messages to read the details.

"Aozawa, where are you?"

"Nett is openly talking about a Different World and Monsters. Did you know?"

"Why aren’t you replying?"

"Are you busy?"

The last message was an emoji implying, You’re in for it, kid!

Aozawa smiled and typed back, "Young Lady, when do I ever get up that early during summer break? I was sleeping and just saw your messages."

After sending that reply, he scrolled to Ayatsuki Ayaka’s messages.

"Aozawa, have you been on TikTok? There’s actually a Cerberus in the world, and they say a deity has granted David’s Force!"

"HMM, I just scrolled past it. Some people are saying it’s just a TV show crew’s prank to get views."

Aozawa hit send and then moved on to Arakawa Reina’s messages.

"Aozawa, Korea’s newly appointed State Preceptor has declared the end is near and claims he received a revelation from Heaven long ago. Do you think that’s true?"

"It’s fake. There’s no such thing as the end of the world. Don’t worry about those things. If anything really happens, I’ll definitely protect you."

Looks like there’s no shortage of amusement online while I’m busy weaving destinies, Aozawa thought.

He exited the chat once more and switched to Hojo Shouko’s messages.

"Aozawa-senpai, have you thought about what you want for lunch? I’m planning to make grilled eel for Brother today."

Aozawa replied, "I’m so envious of Tetsuji. I’m just ordering takeout: pizza, fried chicken, burgers, and coke."

He then went through the accumulated messages, replying to each. It made him feel like an Emperor reviewing memorials.
