To Byul (Omegaverse)-Chapter 33: I didn’t see that coming
Chapter 33 - I didn't see that coming
Breakfast was served, and aside from Lee Ga-ram, Tae-won, and Kang-woo, there was no one else from the family present. Ah, scratch that. Hee Nari was the only one missing.
He probably ran off somewhere the previous night and possibly went to stay with the twins, Si-woo and Deok-ryu, because his place was a bit far from the family house, and he wouldn't be able to travel far at night.
"How is it, Hwa?" Ga-ram asked and Chin-hwa nodded. He looked up at Ga-ram and realized he had been a bit too cold to him the previous night when he asked about Nari.
His emotions were just too unstable at the time.
"It's nice." Chin-hwa said. "Your cooking still tastes so good." He smiled and Ga-ram chuckled, glad that Chin-hwa eventually came around.
"That's nice to hear as well." He said and turned to Yun-tae who was so happily devouring the food. "I see you're enjoying it as well. Your name was..."
"Oh, my bad. My name is Yun-tae. Chin-hwa's coursemate and friend. It's nice to meet you." He said and smiled. "Your home is really big and nice. Thank you for having me."
This made Ga-ram chuckle at his compliment.
"Oh my, you're making me blush. I'm glad you feel at home." He said.
Then, Chin-hwa turned to Kang-woo and said,
"You should ask your mom to teach you the difference between salt and sugar." He said, pointing his fork to him and Kang-woo nervously laughed.
"I'll keep that in mind." He said.
"Hm? What's this?" Ga-ram asked, looking quite surprised that even Tae-won, who was minding his business and having his meal, raised his head to look at his son. "Has my little Byul cooked before?"

Yun-tae raised his head, also curious.
Kang-woo looked away, embarrassed and Chin-hwa laughed.
"He tried it for the first time yesterday. He wanted the pancakes to have a lasting impression and guess what?" He laughed. "It definitely had a lasting impression in my mouth."
"Enough, Hwa. Don't embarrass me more." Kang-woo said over clenched teeth but it got Chin-hwa even more excited to talk about it.
"He tried his best but got deceived by the looks of salt and sugar." He chuckled. "But... I felt his sincerity, so I wanted to eat it, but..."
"I threw it away." Kang-woo said, covering his face in shame. "It was too salty. I couldn't let him eat it."
"Haha, since it was your first time cooking, I didn't want it to get wasted." Chin-hwa said, his gaze dropping softly and shyly. "I wouldn't mind."
Kang-woo went silent and Ga-ram looked at her son, amused.
'I didn't see that coming.' He thought and then laughed. 'I'm glad it's not all ice around them.'
He dropped his hand on his face, observing them carefully.
"In any case, now you'll try to work harder, right?" He said to Kang-woo and smiled. "Don't give little Hwa salty food to eat next time."
"Yes, mom." Kang-woo answered, rubbing the back of his neck and blushing in embarrassment. He had no idea Chin-hwa would talk about it when they were having breakfast.
Yun-Tae, with his spoon hanging in his mouth, stared at them and how warm their interaction felt.
It wasn't like how rigid Chin-hwa had been behaving up until last night. He smiled. This was better.
'I guess they were really close after all.' he gloated happily with his eyes closed. 'Chin-hwa looks so pretty when he laughs. I want to see him laugh more. And Kang-woo...' he opened his eyes and secretly glanced at Kang-woo. 'He's very handsome. I wish to hold a conversation with him again.'
He recalled when they talked in Chin-hwa's room and then in the backyard. Kang-woo was so good at starting a conversation, even though he didn't know the other person's interest. And they ended up talking like they had been friends for a long time.
'If it's him, maybe...' he dropped his gaze. 'Maybe I can have a happy family after all.'
After breakfast, Ga-ram gave a suggestion that would let them rekindle their bond.
"Why don't you take Chin-hwa and Yun-tae out to watch a movie or something? It's been a while so you guys can have fun by moving around."
"Thank you," Yun-tae bowed and walked out.
Though Ga-ram never thought he'd have to include Yun-tae. But Yun-tae was Chin-hwa's guest, so it was almost impossible or rather, impolite to keep him back while Chin-hwa and Kang-woo went out.
And since Chin-hwa never came home with a friend, this was a rather good thing.
"You guys have fun, okay? Don't come back so soon." He added as Tae-won wrapped his arms around his waist.
Chin-hwa watched them from the corner of his eyes and felt Ga-ram was chasing them away so he could have the Sunday to himself and his husband.
"So, where do you want to go?" Kang-woo asked as he entered the car after acting all gentlemanly and holding the door for both of them.
"Well, I don't have anywhere in particular." Chin-hwa said and glanced at Yun-tae at the back from the rearview mirror. "Yun, is there anywhere you want to go?"
"Well, not really." He said but then realized there was something he wanted to do. Ga-ram had mentioned it as well. "Can we watch a movie? There's one movie I've been putting up watching because everyone had been so busy,"
"Ah, do you mean 'that'?" Chin-hwa asked, his face turning grim.
"Do you feel uncomfortable about it?" Yun-tae asked. "Ah, now that I think of it, I realize why you never wanted to watch it. If you don't want to then it's fine, really." He twiddled his fingers nervously. "We can watch something else."
"No, it's fine." Chin-hwa said as he sighed.
"What movie is that?" Kang-woo asked, glancing at Yun-Tae from the rearview mirror, and Chin-hwa turned to him and said,
"AAB!"
(Ah, something just crossed my mind. Remember Baek-Hyun's grandfather was the one who gave Chin-hwa his name, saying he was a lucky child who would have all the wealth in the world, love and riches. It seems all that came to pass. But I guess he still needs to venture far in his love life.)
