Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Lucky

Ding, the elevator stopped and he woke up, his vision was blurry and his body was heavy, he had only lasted so long because of his high vitality.

He dragged his body out into the penthouse, it was empty which was good for him. He left bloody footsteps behind.

Each step caused him to bleed out more, he went straight to the kitchen where people usually kept their medicine kits.

It didn’t take him long to find one, he took painkillers but it did not help. He found a bottle of alcohol.

Used it to disinfect his wounds, his veins still bulged over his arms and legs. He could see them but broken in half like snapped ropes.

He had no idea how he could even still move, he tied bandages tightly around his arms and legs.

It was harder than expected, then he dragged himself to the freezer. He took out ice packs.

Went to the bathroom and filled the bathtub and poured out the ice packs. He locked the bathroom and sank under.

Leaving only the top of his face above water to breath. Infront the building, the wolf alpha and the rest of it pack arrived.

They were faster than the scorpion so they got here first but they hesitated to get in. They could smell the scent of rats.

Too many rats, even with their power dealing with so many would be a nightmare even for them.

The wolf caught the scent of the scorpion and retreated, they watched from the shadows as the scorpion arrived.

It also hesitated but not for long then it ran inside. Thousands of rats were already crawling through the building searching for Akaris.

The arrival of the scorpion agitated them, rats were mindless monsters who also happened to be scavengers.

Instead of searching for an enemy hidden somewhere in the building they thought to attack the one they could see.

At first most continued searching for Akaris to no avail. Fortunately for him the penthouse was completely isolated.

The only path there was the elevator, the owner of this building was a paranoid man, he made sure to isolate his house.

It walls and windows were fortified, he was trying to stop anything and everything from getting in.

Even the air vents, none were connected to the lower floors. According to him, he wanted to not be effected in the case of a fire spread.

There was a helicopter on the roof of the building, it was always there. Because of all that, the rats found it hard to get in.

Even the elevator was fortified, there were no spaces between it and the walls so you couldn’t climb below or above it.

That paranoia of that man saved Akaris’s life, he slept on the ice bath with his head above the water.

He didn’t hear the commotion below, thousands of cat sized rats lunged at the scorpion from all sides.

Their sharp teeth did not even manage to break through it armour. The only vulnerable part of it body were it antennas.

It made sure they did not get close to that, it scythes turned into a blurs cutting the rats like a harvester.

Some jumped onto it back but it stabbed them with it flexible tail. It stinger piercing through them as easily as if they were paper.

Yet there was no end to them, they kept coming like a flood and it kept killing them. In only minutes the floor was littered by their corpses.

Their endless numbers started weighing the scorpion down, it realised what it was doing was pointless and ran outside.

The rats chased after it leaving the safety of their building. Doing so was a mistake, the commotion drew the attention of other monsters.

The streets became a battlefield of different monsters, the wolves joined in, there were other wolf species weaker than the shadow wolves.

Naturally they bowed and followed the shadow wolf alpha’s lead. Birds descended from the sky.

Some were monsters like the soul screechers who came from the abyss, others were animals who evolved from Karon’s animals.

The rats lost the advantage of their numbers, individually they were very weak so they became prey to most monsters there.

Some of those monsters even leveled up in the midst of battle. One goblin turned into a hobgoblin.

It did not just level up but upgraded into an uncommon monster which was a rare occurrence.

It strength grew and it started killing even faster, it was no longer the weakest there, the more it killed the stronger it grew.

Eventually it even secretly killed it own kind to level up. It chopped off the head of a hobgoblin then ate it heart.

When it did a dark aura appeared around it and it skin turned grey. It became a unique monster.

While still weaker than the wolf alpha and the silent hunter scorpion, it had become one of the strongest monsters there.

However in doing so it was shunned by it kind who tried to kill it, that was the price it had to pay for it power.

Realising more and more monsters were coming, it sneaked away and ran off. The wolf alpha and the scorpion continued wreaking havoc.

Corpses and blood littered the street, yet the battle did not end. Even the scorpion started getting wounded.

Unlike the wolf it wasn’t fast enough to dodge all attacks but it was durable enough to block most.

However everything had a limit, those attacks started breaching it defences, when it first drop of blood fell.

The scorpion panicked and ran, monsters chased after it. As the strongest here it would certainly give more if killed.

After a few hours the street were quiet with only a few monsters running around scavenging for left overs.

It were mostly rats but there were also vultures and other scavengers from the abyss.

Akaris woke up after the sun had fallen, he got off the bath, the ice had long melted, he went upstairs to look for clothes.

He found the master bedroom and searched for clothes. None of them fit, the owner of this place was too fat.

He sighed and wore them anyways, tied them so they wouldn’t fall. He checked the time and saw that it was 8 pm of the third day.

Then a flood of notifications hit him. " Oh, damn this is great? I should mutilate myself more."
