Timeless Assassin-Chapter 1058: Missing Lore - The Rise Of The Six Great Clans
(3000 years ago, A historian’s tale on the rise of the Great Clans)
The rise of the Great Clans was not a clean, isolated event in history, but rather something that unfolded during a long and messy transition period, as it overlapped directly with both the fall of the Beast Gods and the rise of the Cult of Ascension, while the universe itself struggled to shift from chaos into something more structured.
This transition did not happen overnight.
It took roughly five hundred years.
Five hundred years where old powers were falling, new powers were rising, and no single force had complete control, as different regions of the universe experienced this shift at different speeds, creating a time where multiple eras seemed to exist all at once.
Three thousand years ago, the universe was still largely under the rule of the Beast Gods, as life across most planets followed a simple and brutal rule—
Survival of the fittest.
As weaker civilizations were either enslaved, hunted, or wiped out entirely, while meaningful communication between distant sectors remained almost non-existent due to the lack of advanced interstellar systems.
It was during this period that the Timeless Assassin began his campaign against the Beast Gods, as instead of declaring open war, he dismantled their dominance slowly and methodically, targeting them one by one, isolating them, and banishing many into Time-Stilled Worlds, while steadily breaking the structure that had allowed them to rule for so long.
However, even as the Beast Gods were being removed, their fall did not immediately create stability.
Instead, it created confusion.
Because as their territories collapsed, there was no clear system in place to replace them, and while the Cult of Ascension began to rise under the Timeless Assassin during this same period, its influence did not instantly reach every corner of the universe.
This meant that for hundreds of years, three things were happening at the same time.
The Beast Gods were falling.
The Cult of Ascension was expanding.
And human powers were beginning to rise independently.
In many regions, people did not even know that the Beast Gods had fallen elsewhere, as information traveled slowly, and without a central authority, each sector was left to deal with its own situation, leading to a fragmented and uneven transition across the universe.
As it was within this chaos that several human sovereigns began to emerge.
Including outliers like Mauriss and Helmuth, who rose to power alone without any army behind them.
As leaders who were strong enough to take control of their local regions began to gather followers, build armies, secure resources, and slowly expand their influence, as they turned small pockets of control into growing domains.
Over time, nearly twenty such powers rose across different parts of the universe, as each of them established their own systems of governance, their own military structures, and their own methods of expansion, while the universe slowly shifted from scattered survival into organized competition.
Some of these early clans relied purely on strength, conquering nearby territories through direct force, while others focused on trade, alliances, or technological development, building influence in more controlled and calculated ways, as different approaches to power began to shape the early identity of human civilization.
However, even among these twenty rising powers, differences in potential soon became clear.
Because while many could rule...
Only a few could evolve.
Out of those twenty sovereigns, only six possessed the talent and capability required to break past the limits of mortality and ascend into Godhood, as once they achieved that transformation, the balance of power shifted instantly and permanently in their favor.
The remaining fourteen did not fall because they were weak.
They fell because they could no longer compete.
Against beings who had transcended to an entirely different level of existence, resistance became meaningless, as the newly ascended Gods began to absorb their territories one after another, expanding their control with overwhelming ease.
And so, over time, the number of dominant powers shrank.
From twenty...
To six.
Until only the Six Great Clans remained.
It was at that point that the expansion finally slowed, as with no weaker powers left to absorb, the Six Gods found themselves facing only one another, each controlling small regions, each strong enough to threaten the others, but none strong enough to guarantee victory without consequences.
And that...
Was where the next phase of history truly began.
Because although each of the six Great Clan Gods possessed overwhelming strength, none could guarantee victory against the others without risking mutual destruction, as they came to a silent understanding that endless war would only weaken them all.
And so, they allied.
Not out of trust, nor out of friendship, but out of necessity, as the Great Clan Alliance was formed to stabilize the universe, establish trade networks, build interstellar infrastructure, and most importantly, to present a united front against any remaining threats.
However, even at their peak, their dominion was limited.
Because while they ruled their respective regions, the vast majority of the universe still remained under the indirect influence of the Timeless Assassin, whose control extended across more than eighty percent of all known space, as his authority, though not always visible, remained absolute.
And that...
Was where dissatisfaction began to grow.
Because despite being Gods, despite having conquered entire regions and established their dominance over countless worlds, the Six Great Clan leaders found themselves existing within boundaries that they did not set, as their expansion remained restricted, their influence confined, and their authority ultimately secondary to a single entity.
Over time, that realization turned into resentment.
Resentment turned into ambition.
And ambition...
Became the seed of betrayal.
At the center of that shift stood Kaelith, as unlike the other Great Clan Gods, he was one of the very few Gods who possessed both the strength and the insight required to truly challenge the Timeless Assassin, and more importantly, the cunning to do so in a way that could catch the great man off guard.
And hence, as he approached the others with a future that was difficult to ignore, many became lured by the promise of a future where they were no longer confined by unseen boundaries, where their authority was not secondary to another, and where their dominion could expand without restraint until they stood unchallenged at the very peak of the universal hierarchy.
The proposal was simple and irreversible.
Betray the Timeless Assassin.
For a brief moment, hesitation existed.
But not for long.
Because the desire for absolute control had already taken root within their hearts, as the six Great Clan Gods, who had once allied for survival, now found a new reason to stand together once more.
Not to protect the universe.
But to claim it.
And so, the decision was made.
A decision that would go on to be remembered as one of the most defining moments in the history of existence.
The Great Betrayal.
The moment when the Six Great Clan Gods allied with Kaelith, Mauriss and Helmuth to turn against the very force that had made their rise possible...
As the Righteous Alliance was born.
However, unfortunately for them.
Even though they did benefit from the betrayal, their rise was never absolute, as although they had betrayed the one who shaped their rise, they failed to realize that removing him did not free them... it only changed the nature of their chains.
