This Spiritual Energy is Lethal!-Chapter 102 - Night Club
Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Night Club
The cab stopped at the curb, a street away from the Holy Angel Nightclub.
Chen Ke got out of the car and only had to look ahead to see a small two-story nightclub in the distance.
An exaggerated angel neon sign flickered with a pale purple light, and even from a street away, the boisterous music inside the building could be heard.
Chen Ke tightened his tie and straightened his suit a bit as he walked along the street, looking for Hall. He took out his phone to check the time—9:12 PM; Hall should have already been there.
At a bus stop by the road, Chen Ke found Hall, who was leaning under the shelter engrossed in playing his PSP.
Chen Ke approached Hall and tapped his shoulder.
...
Clearly, Hall was quite absorbed in his game, and he started, looking up at Chen Ke.
“You’re late… nice suit though,” Hall said, putting the PSP in his pocket.
“Let’s get down to business… do you know the agent?” Chen Ke asked.
Hall pulled out his phone, opened a photo, and handed it to Chen Ke. Chen Ke took the phone; the picture showed a Latin male with a buzz cut, wearing sunglasses, a sharp nose, and a cunning—no, a swindler’s face.
“His name’s Parchi, one of our agents, a clever fellow. The information for Hainerd’s previous operation was provided by him,” Hall said.
“Tell me about the heist Hainerd pulled off, there might be some useful information,” Chen Ke asked.
Hall looked down and thought for a while, and Chen Ke felt as if there were some things that Hall found inconvenient to share. After Hall organized what he could and couldn’t divulge, he finally opened up to Chen Ke about some things.
Hainerd was one of the older members among the couriers, and the missions he was involved in were generally more significant and of higher value.
Before joining the couriers, Hainerd had been involved in smuggling at sea, and although he wasn’t a Spiritual Ability User, he often dealt with illegal Spiritual Ability Users and was very familiar with Holy Relics diamonds.
He could judge the value of Holy Relics diamonds by their color, and knew what buyers wanted.
Smugglers had established a vast network that floated outside of the safe waters, known as the “black net.” Even though Hainerd no longer dealt in smuggling, he had a thorough understanding of this black net.
It’s hard to trust a smuggler, even if he has retired and joined you; betrayal is just a matter of time and the right amount of temptation.
The information on Hainerd’s last assignment indicated that a batch of fresh “merchandise,” brought out from the “Great Void,” was ready to be shipped out of Opportunity City.
It didn’t matter which unfortunate Spiritual Business had gone through great trouble to acquire these gems, the couriers weren’t going to just stand by.
With information from Parchi’s network, Hainerd collected intelligence from multiple sources and eventually located the temporary hiding spot for the goods, so he set out with three companions to pay a visit.
“That’s all there was to it, before you came to our gun shop, he had left. Then what followed, followed,” Hall said.
“Do you know which Spiritual Business pulled the goods out of the Great Void?” Chen Ke asked.
“It’s said to be a joint endeavor by Lescott Spirit Production and Weber Spirit Production…” Hall listed.
Hmm… Chen Ke frowned, those two… Sleery and Parker were investigators for them, but he didn’t need to think to know that those two novices couldn’t possibly be involved in such underground operations.
“Have you ever heard of HCP?” Chen Ke suddenly asked.
In the Great Void lay their equipment boxes, their abandoned camp, and there was also Brother Discouraged, who appeared unable to leave the Great Void and was also a member of their team. Up to now, he wasn’t sure if HCP was the acronym for some Spiritual Business corporation or a specialized department of the Administration Bureau for exploring the Great Void.
“HCP…?” Hall frowned, seemingly deep in thought.
Chen Ke waited expectantly, looking at Hall.
“No impression, don’t know, maybe Pihom would know something. Bain always manages to gather some weird intelligence.” Hall shook his head.
Chen Ke felt like he was holding a tangled ball of yarn, with many dead knots inside. He didn’t know which thread to follow to unravel the mystery at hand.
The life countdown, was it a natural gift or a curse brought about by human intervention? Chen Ke now found himself wavering.
If he had believed that finding Pankia would solve the mystery of the life countdown plaguing him because he had too few clues when he first crossed over, now, looking at the handful of fragmented information in his possession, he wasn’t sure what to believe anymore.
“No matter how those companies enter the Great Void, Chen Ke, I’ll bet anything that they come out with piles upon piles of Holy Relics diamonds,” Hall said.
For couriers, Holy Relics diamonds simply meant money. They were ordinary people engaged in banditry, neither possessing nor wanting to deal with Transcendent affairs.
Now, however, Chen Ke was far from the green rookie he once was.
It wasn’t hard to understand that most Spiritual Businesses sneakily hoarded Holy Relics diamonds for smuggling trades—after all, every industry has its grey and black market chains.
But those Spiritual Businesses that actively opened the doors to the Great Void…
As far as Chen Ke’s knowledge was concerned, the only known human method of opening the doors was the deadly Blasphemous Dagger…
If this was just a tangible example of “capital devouring people,” he had no more to say. But subconsciously, Chen Ke felt that the motives of these aggressive conglomerates were not simple.
The two arrived at the entrance of the nightclub, sizing up the modest-sized establishment from across the street. Chen Ke noticed a robust security guard standing by the door, his hands positioned in front of his stomach in the typical “ready-guard” posture—clearly armed.
The dark alley on the side was unguarded; if they wanted to infiltrate secretly, it seemed like a good choice. However, without professional tools, they couldn’t pry open a window—they could only break the glass.
Chen Ke then glanced at the open-air bar on the second floor—some patrons were sitting there. He didn’t know the layout inside. If a disturbance arose, the bar’s customers could pose a big problem because they wouldn’t be easy to control…
“How are we going to get in? Just through the main entrance, all brazen like?” Chen Ke asked.
“We just go straight in, find that bastard inside, and ask him straight up. He went in just for a good time, so if we pull him out, the nightclub’s people probably won’t do much to us,” Hall rubbed his hands.
“Alright, let’s do that.” Chen Ke didn’t have a better plan, and it wasn’t too late to figure out something else once they were inside.
The two strode boldly towards the doors of the Holy Angel Nightclub, attracting the attention of the bouncer.
“Excuse me, gentlemen… do you have VIP cards?” the bouncer stepped forward to stop them.
Chen Ke was taken aback, turning to Hall, hoping he was prepared.
However, Hall also seemed oblivious to this twist, and both exchanged a look of uncertainty about what to do.

“Ah… forget it, go on in, you’ll be leaving soon anyway…” the bouncer scratched the back of his head, seemingly not too committed to his job. While speaking, he stepped aside from the door.
Both of them just walked into the Holy Angel Nightclub, utterly baffled.
