Chapter 465: 427 Untouchable attitude

The morning meeting didn’t offer much useful content. Everyone had just returned from the New Year holidays, and it wasn’t even the fifteenth yet. Consequently, it was unlikely anything uncomfortable would be said. The purpose of this routine meeting was to refocus everyone and conduct a brief mobilization meeting.

After the general meeting ended and each department’s leaders went back to hold their own small meetings to arrange tasks, Du Heng began to consult with several leaders about work.

The first person he sought out was Cui Guanghaia. Du Heng had already planned his arrangements and work before the New Year.

"Old Cui, how was your New Year?" Du Heng asked politely in his office. He even enthusiastically took Cui Guanghaia’s cup to refill it with water.

After a few days of vacation, Cui Guanghaia’s demeanor had changed slightly. But Du Heng couldn’t quite discern what exactly had shifted. The only noticeable difference was that Cui Guanghaia’s smile seemed much more sincere.

Seeing Du Heng refilling his water, Cui Guanghaia was also very polite. "Dean, I can do it myself," he said, pushing his cup forward to make it easier for Du Heng to pour. He then continued, "This New Year was tiring. Apart from being on duty for three days, I spent most of the other time drunk."

A nostalgic look crossed his face momentarily before vanishing. "To be honest, I still feel a bit dizzy even now."

Du Heng chuckled but didn’t respond to Cui Guanghaia’s self-revelation. Instead, he went straight to the point. "Dean Ruoge, I have some thoughts regarding the work assignments we discussed before the New Year. I’d like to go over them with you. Do you have time?"

Cui Guanghaia’s expression flickered slightly. This news was, in a way, both expected and unexpected. After all, he was the first Vice Dean under Du Heng. When Du Heng wasn’t around, he was in charge. Discussing work assignments with him was perfectly normal and reasonable. However, considering Du Heng’s attitude before the New Year compared to his current demeanor, this came as a significant surprise. Du Heng was showing respect, through and through. But this very attitude made it harder for Cui Guanghaia to discern Du Heng’s true intentions. Internally, Du Heng could be quite autocratic; externally, he had Dong Yuezhang and Gong Daoyang as nearby support, and above him, An Chunhui, the big boss, was firmly in place. He really couldn’t understand this current Du Heng. However, he was an old Jianghu; he would just go with the flow and observe the changes. His methods were far more seasoned than those of a young man like Du Heng.

"Dean, just give your instructions. I will certainly do my utmost to handle it well."

Hearing Cui Guanghaia’s assurance, Du Heng had no time for mind games or nitpicking words. He got straight to the point. "Dean Ruoge, it’s the start of the new year. We’ve already summarized the problems existing in our Health Clinic’s operations from before. I have a few preliminary thoughts on this that I’d like to discuss. What do you think?"

"Go ahead, Dean."

"First, last year, our Health Clinic developed very quickly and achieved dazzling results in all aspects. This is certainly something to be congratulated for. But it’s precisely because we developed too quickly that the deficiencies in the entire medical system within our jurisdiction have been thoroughly exposed. These problems are mainly concentrated on our village doctors."

Du Heng was genuinely concerned about the issue of village doctors. "The existing village doctors in each village are meant to provide villagers with tangible and effective supplementary medical care. However, throughout last year, we didn’t see where the ’supplementary’ aspect was; instead, numerous problems arose. To sum up, there are several points: low educational qualifications, poor skill levels, a generally older demographic, and a lack of seriousness in their approach to work."

Cui Guanghaia nodded in agreement. "This is indeed a problem. I also carefully reviewed last year’s summary regarding the village doctors from all villages, and there are truly quite a few issues. Especially now that our Health Clinic is developing rapidly, this drawback has become particularly glaring."

"Being glaring is one thing, but there are two main problems now. First, the village doctors haven’t formed an effective supplement to our work. Some individual village doctors even treat the role merely as a title that allows them to receive subsidies, failing to fulfill their duties as village doctors. Second, according to the intentions expressed at meetings with higher-ups before the New Year, the entire village doctor system is to be fully integrated into the Health Clinic’s management system within the next year or two. Doing so is generally good for the village doctors. They can have a fixed, substantial income, which will be a very strong guarantee for their future work and life. However, to be incorporated into the Health Clinic’s system, there will inevitably be evaluations and assessments. It’s possible that due to the problems of certain individuals, the overall assessment of our village doctors could be dragged down. This would be unfair to those who are diligent in their work. Furthermore, given their current technical skills, I’m afraid they might also find it difficult to pass the assessments."

Du Heng spoke very seriously, genuinely worried. "Dean Ruoge, I want to entrust this matter to you. Please come up with an executable plan as soon as possible. Do you foresee any problems on your end?"

Cui Guanghaia pondered for a moment. He didn’t detect anything amiss in Du Heng’s tone or in the assignment of this task. After some thought, he nodded and accepted it. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Seeing Cui Guanghaia nod, Du Heng continued, "There’s one more matter that will require Dean Ruoge to put in some extra effort. Our Health Clinic currently has two courtyards, three main buildings, and two rows of single-story buildings available for use."
